Starting this one as I finished last one...

So, Daniela I think will win as it looks like it's been written/plotted that way since the beginning..

I don't think Daniela is either outstandingly good or bad - she's fine, she's okay.

That's why the mega enthusiasm of the judges is so weird.

The first time she appeared, Daniel and Kelly bigger her up so much, I thought - 'Does she know them?' - it was just like ridiculous.

But here she is in the final - quelle surprise!

Saw it coming from her first appearance and it had nothing to do with her design - and everything to do with what the judges were signalling in the voiceover.

'Hey viewers, Daniela is good, good good...'

Bit brainwashy without ever really explaining why she is better than the others.

I don't think she's bad - but there is not enough discernible difference to justify the bigging up that she gets.

Written in the stars eh?

Honaluuhuu are you Daniela?

Oliver wuz robbed Confused

SwedishEdith · 19/01/2017 21:15

A sentence got lost there - "She really is a designer's designer." - what does that mean?

PurpleDaisies · 19/01/2017 21:16

It means we're all to uncultured to appreciate her work. Grin

Delatron · 19/01/2017 21:17

She may be a good designer but if she can't work to a brief and the clients don't like it then she surely shouldn't be the winner...

BringMeTea · 19/01/2017 21:18

Bollocks to that.

iklboo · 19/01/2017 21:19

That picture was straight out of The Young Ones. Rik's middle class attempt at 'anarchy'.

BringMeTea · 19/01/2017 21:20

Didn't like Oliver's study room but over all he was better. Poor Oliver.

Cosmicglitterpug · 19/01/2017 21:22

Much preferred Oliver. Daniella's stuff was boutique bling and tacky backlights.

CremeEggThief · 19/01/2017 21:24

Not happy either. I was sure it would be Oliver.Sad

WellErrr · 19/01/2017 21:25

The rooms tonight were absolutely gopping. Truly awful.

In fact, I think the Befores throughout the series have been better.

Cremolafoam · 19/01/2017 21:25

I am so annoyed I don't get to shout at the TV any more. If these people are considered talented designers I despair.

Honaluuhuu · 19/01/2017 21:34

I don't understand why there is so much dislike towards Daniela, she had incredible mood boards, every room she made looked like it came straight out of the pages of a design magazine.
Let's compare her bedroom with Oliver's study: She had the fringed light covering playing with proportion, linearity and texture; the black flower cutting giving roundness but also a delicacy and a sharp contrast of a tiny black fragment in a large white space, again playing with proportion. All of her design choices were developed to their fullest. Oliver's room had a classic elegance but also a playfulness but his design ideas were not developed enough. Sophie Robinson mentioned that blank wall above the couch was a complete missed opportunity. His antiek desk could have had a more modern style of chair, maybe in a perspex, to give more texture. His floor could have taken a thick, patterned persian rug to give more detail as the only detail in the room was from the styling in the cabinet of the owner's objects and the room was a bit too colour block-y without any pattern to balance it

WellErrr · 19/01/2017 21:45

Her rooms were unattractive, totally impractical, over designed, and poorly finished.

But no one was brilliant this season.

WellErrr · 19/01/2017 21:45

I don't dislike Daniela, I just thought what she did was crap.

The fringed light you cite as such a design feature, was a bodge up (as her stuff usually is). You could see the staples and the scrunched up fabric from the floor. The black flowers and the black iron/glass table thing looked like it came straight out of an MFI showroom - and it doesn't take a 'designer' to paint a room completely white. I painted a whole house in it once - for speed - because we were just moving in and it was the quickest thing to do. There's no design genius in a tin of white emulsion.

I earn my living as a freelance designer (a graphic designer) and have done for the past 25 years so I know a bit about colour/texture etc. and tonight there was none in her rooms. It didn't meet the brief, didn't suit the property, and that wall art was frankly an embarrassment.

You can wax lyrical about 'proportion, linearity, texture' and 'tiny black fragments in white spaces'... all you like, but it won't change my view. I'd have taken Oliver's rooms over hers any day of the week and then some.

It was a complete stitch up.

CremeEggThief · 19/01/2017 21:55

I don't think anyone in Series 3 and 4 have been as good as the semi-finalists in Series 2.

SingSongSlummy · 19/01/2017 22:06

Gah- just finished watching on catch up - Oliver was robbed!!! Daniela's sitting room was just dreadful, truly ugly.

Funny how both MNetters this season and last had the winner in a semi final Blue

tava63 · 19/01/2017 22:10

Feel Oliver was stronger (especially kitchen and bedroom) and he realised it.

Cocolepew · 19/01/2017 22:19

I didn't dislike her, I just thought she wasn't as good.
The bedroom had hardly anything done to it. The light would have looked ok if it was finished properly.
The low sofa in the living room with the very high ceilings, would have felt like you were sitting on the floor.
The white unit was a monstrosity.
The painting was like something an art student would have did in the 80's. All it needed was the anarchy symbol.

DesolateWaist · 19/01/2017 22:26

I like her as a person, I thought she seemed lovely. I agree her mood boards looked very professional. Unlike Oliver who needs a short lesson in perspective.

She had the fringed light covering playing with proportion, linearity and texture; the black flower cutting giving roundness but also a delicacy and a sharp contrast of a tiny black fragment in a large white space, again playing with proportion.

I agree with all of that, what you have failed to mention is how badly finished it all was. The light was stapled and badly finished. There was paint on the floor. You can't make a sofa by stapling some foam to an MDF box.

DesolateWaist · 19/01/2017 22:28

I agree, I'm sorry to come over as some kind of art snob but there is a lot more to art than buying a big print and painting some words on it.

TabithaBethia · 19/01/2017 23:09

Sophie showing up was like the sun came out Grin

Oliver was robbed. His rooms were full of heart and beauty. Posh Spice was just recreating a spread from Elle deco.

Who wants a bloody great big grid hiding the telly Hmm. Nobody!

Cosmicglitterpug · 19/01/2017 23:15

I was pleased to see Sophie. Maybe she was replaced by Kelly as she's more into bright colours and prints... I always thought she was a great judge.

TabithaBethia · 19/01/2017 23:27

The painting was like something an art student would have did in the 80's

No it's not, this was a simulacrum of a 1980's art student painting. Not the same I promise you.

Davros · 19/01/2017 23:33

I liked Daniela a lot but I think Oliver's rooms were better. Her living room in the final was just awful!
