Starts on Monday 2nd Jan @ 11am (new time) each day.

DH always says, "You can tell it is the new year when this deluded escapism is on!"

I for one will have it on series record. Anyone else joining me to escape to Oz each morning?

The eldest son is a lovely boy. He seems to have his father's temperament. She is determined to go at any cost.

wideboy26 · 13/01/2017 11:53

Nicki's dress today looks like the one my mum wore to my brother's wedding in the 70's.

NancyDonahue · 13/01/2017 12:05

She's rather overpowering. I guess it works for them though. I agree the eldest son is a sweetheart. It's easy to find her facebook profile and it's very public so you can are how they're getting on.

conkerpods · 13/01/2017 23:59

She is crazy but in a fun kind of way. Lovely kids, hope it works out for them.

RebootYourEngine · 14/01/2017 08:42

Yesterdays couple are going to move to australia and never see each other as he works evenings and weekends and she works days.

Felt sorry for the eldest boy.

LIZS · 14/01/2017 08:46

Apparently they decided to go and are working for the same Yacht club.

Verbena37 · 16/01/2017 08:14

I don't know I love it, but I love this programme.
Been crying during each episode!
I don't even fly but if I emigrated anywhere, I think it would be there.
Don't like the same scripted format, word for word the same but I like seeing their reaction to it all.

LIZS · 16/01/2017 11:18

Anyone watching? The running costs of these properties would be massive!

wideboy26 · 16/01/2017 11:23

I'm watching. Bit worried that this lady thinks Australia will solve all their problems without knowing anything about the country

RebootYourEngine · 16/01/2017 12:08

Havent watched todays yet but did anyone see the episode on over the weekend?

It was from about 2009. It looked so old but it still had the same old high expectations.

LIZS · 16/01/2017 13:08

Yes, would have been nice to have a further update. They'd only been there for a couple of months. She was still hoping her daughter would join them at that point and stay but wonder if she did.

Linnet · 17/01/2017 00:25

I love this programme. I tape it and watch it at night, that way I can skip through the videos from home.

I'm always amazed at how they think they can move straight into the dream home. surely you have to be realistic and appreciate that you may have to start smallish then work your way up to the dream home?

Quite often in the houses there is one or two bedrooms at the front of the property and they always say how much they don't like that. I find that odd, every house I've ever lived in has had at least one bedroom at the front. I don't think it's that unusual in the UK so don't understand why they find if strange in Australia.

Heatherbell1978 · 17/01/2017 09:51

Linnet I love this programme too but do get a bit tired of the same moans about the houses in each episode. No wonder so many Brits who go over there move back again if they're expecting what they have and more back in the UK. One I watched had the woman complaining about lack of grass (it's too hot in Perth!) and the fact the house wasn't fully carpeted (again, in the heat, really?). Like so many people have commented before, a bit of research on the internet might help people to see what houses are like, how much groceries are and salary expectations......for such a huge decision these families are potentially making, their lack of knowledge is fairly worrying!

NancyDonahue · 17/01/2017 13:31

Another boring one today. I could tell within the first couple of minutes that they wouldn't make the move.

Is it just me, or does it often turn out that if the woman/mum is the one that needs persuading they often don't move? However, if the woman/mum is pushing the move they often do make the move. Maybe it's because women are generally more invested in family and friends. Sorry for the generalisation, it's just something I've noticed.

Vagndidit · 17/01/2017 14:25

Fairly surprised today's family didn't jump right into a move. But I suppose it should have been obvious from the start that she wasn't into it.

It had potential to be really beneficial for the whole family. The wife kept using her mum as an excuse as to why they couldn't go--despite her mum giving one of the most heartfelt blessings I've heard on the show.

wideboy26 · 17/01/2017 19:55

In many of these cases emigration must have been in the mind of the instigator when the couple met and became an item. That being so, you'd think emigration would be one of the issues discussed before they tied the knot. If emigration is totally out of the question - as it would be in my case - it would be a showstopper for the future of the relationship.

That said, some partners are persuadable, but today's show was an example of having known all along that the husband hankered after emigration. She could have taken a view before agreeing to marry.

Verbena37 · 17/01/2017 20:36

I'm pretty sure there are two ways of taking a dependent elderly/older retired person over with them.
I know someone who recently moved over to live with her son. I can't remember what but I think it depends on savings you have. Think they worry about need social care services etc but it seems doable.

Heatherbell1978 · 18/01/2017 11:05

This one's going to be a tear-jerker. Might need to skip through family videos...

wideboy26 · 18/01/2017 11:34

It's not going well for this couple. I can't imagine the outdoor lifestyle will swing it either as they look a couple of lardy-@rses

fourquenelles · 18/01/2017 11:47

This lady was never going to be convinced to make the move. She was dead against from the outset.

Heatherbell1978 · 18/01/2017 12:33

I was left thinking, why are they looking to move? The usual cliches of sun, family time and outdoor living didn't seem to apply in their case. And why Auckland? It's hugely expensive.

LunaLoveg00d · 19/01/2017 11:05

Today's family is another lot wanting a free holiday. Never been to Aus, no idea about the country, never going to do it. Seem to think they're going to be loaded in Aus, do very little work, have a fabulous house and lots of family time.

AllTheBabies · 19/01/2017 11:08

Does she not understand that people have to work in Australia too?! Confused

Yep, I think these ones just want to be on TV!

wideboy26 · 19/01/2017 11:09

And it's set to be a real tear-jerker: Mum, Nan and a baby.

LunaLoveg00d · 19/01/2017 11:09

And he doesn't see life beyond Sutton Coldfield.
