Starts on Monday 2nd Jan @ 11am (new time) each day.

DH always says, "You can tell it is the new year when this deluded escapism is on!"

I for one will have it on series record. Anyone else joining me to escape to Oz each morning?

OP posts:

I reckon if they went they'd soon come back.

Badcat666 · 03/02/2017 11:28

God it's all about her, isn't it?

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 03/02/2017 11:29

Why don't they move to London - where he works - so he can be home every night and they are still able to visit family when they want?

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 11:30

Yes it seems rather a drastic solution to their issues!

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 11:31

They look like they are back in the uk though.

LIZS · 03/02/2017 11:31

Needy doesn't describe the half of it. No beaches and sunshine in London, or Yorkshire. Hmm

Vagndidit · 03/02/2017 11:31

Revisiting one year on seems a waste, doesn't it? Give it at least 3 years before you waste time filming these people. I give 'em 6 months and they'll be back.

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 11:32

When did they manage to argue?!Confused

greenworm · 03/02/2017 11:38

It's clear who's the boss in this relationship! I think he just does as he's told...

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:38

Does Simon's demeanour ever change? His reaction to everything seems to be the same. She must have worn him down

greenworm · 03/02/2017 11:40

It's a bit Royle Family...

poppadoppadom · 03/02/2017 11:42

Another baby?! Not if he has a say.

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:42

He looks thrilled at the suggestion of renewing their wedding vows. Not.

Vagndidit · 03/02/2017 11:43

Bandaid relocation AND baby. #optimism?

LunaLoveg00d · 03/02/2017 11:45

Only caught the last 20 minutes but the problem appears to be her selfish mother and her "I'm devastated" attitude.

FB update!

When we last caught up with Simon, Helen and the kids, they were loving life in Sippy Downs on the Sunshine Coast. Simon got a full time job within two weeks of arriving in Oz - doing the same site construction work he had in the UK, but is home every day by 3pm to pick the kids up with Helen! He has even got his own work uniform and pick-up ‘ute’ already! The family have met lots of lovely people and the kids are both in school and really settling in well. Julie plans to look for a job soon but has enjoyed being at home with the kids for the summer holidays.
The family do miss friends and family back home but are looking forward to Helen’s mum coming to visit soon for a month.
We wish them all the best!

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 11:53

I'm glad it worked out for them.

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:59

Me too. Thank God neither I nor my wife have itchy feet

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 12:02

I'd really like to go to Canada but I'd have to take my mum with me. Only realised this prob not possible recently so not going! Grin

WinterWander · 03/02/2017 12:03

Just how bad was his English that he needed tutoring? The requirements are:
English language - you should have sufficient ability in the English language to work in Australia (at least at a competent level);

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 12:04

I wondered that too. I wonder how much formal grammar/spelling there is. Or maybe he's dyslexic.

WinterWander · 03/02/2017 12:12

Looking at the visa application - he would pass the criteria as an English speaker but if you sit a test you can gain extra points. You need a minimum number of points to qualify for the visa so I guess you try to bump up your score where you can. That makes more sense now.

LunaLoveg00d · 03/02/2017 12:14

They said he had no qualifications at all - I would imagine Australia would take a GCSE or something as "sufficient ability" but people who don't have that, have to sit the test.

According to Google - this is the sort of thing you're asked to do. www.ielts.org/-/media/pdfs/115029_general_training_writing_sample_task_-_task_1.ashx?la=en

Seems very straightforward, not even GCSE level.

Heatherbell1978 · 03/02/2017 12:27

My DH has recently done the English exam as part of his application for a Permanent visa to Oz. Everyone needs to sit it. The challenge can be how many points you need. My DH had to pass each section (written, spoken, listening etc) with full marks to get the overall 60 points he needed fir the application as his qualifications counted for zero (he has a degree) since they're not related to his profession. The test is harder than it looks, my DH studied languages at uni and although he passed with flying colours with no tuition required, I'm guessing for someone with no qualifications etc it would be tricky especially if they needed full marks like my DH.

greenworm · 03/02/2017 12:53

It's nice that things are going well for them, it did seem like they could have a nice life out there, though not sure how often they could afford to fly back to the UK to visit friends/family - I'm guessing quite rarely. I wouldn't be surprised if her mum spends a lot of time with them out there though!
