Starts on Monday 2nd Jan @ 11am (new time) each day.

DH always says, "You can tell it is the new year when this deluded escapism is on!"

I for one will have it on series record. Anyone else joining me to escape to Oz each morning?

People on this programme act like there's nothing to do in the UK! I know our weather is not always ideal, but there is still plenty to do.
I don't believe you have to go to the other side of the world to have family time etc. I've been to the other side of the world (clue in my username!) and I loved it but the UK has lots to offer too.

Msqueen33 · 02/02/2017 12:25

I love this show (don't know why it's crap) a new life in Oz is also good. I don't get why they can't change their UK life first.

greenworm · 02/02/2017 12:31

They should only allow people participate if they sign something saying that if they end up voting to make the move they will actually go through with it. What annoys me the most is that they always vote to move and then never do!

NancyDonahue · 02/02/2017 12:51

Heatherbell I saw the CH5 show last time. The woman was flipping annoying so I gave up before the end.

NancyDonahue · 02/02/2017 12:51

last night I mean.

It's like Escape to the Country. How often does the two days' schlepping around the country, poking their noses into others' houses and drinking tea from fine porcelain cups in swish hotels result in a sale? Not often in my experience. It's more often a shrug of the shoulders and a conclusion that it's given Mr and Mrs Boring more of an idea of what they're looking for.

That said, if I were half of Mr and Mrs Boring, I'd probably want to look at more than 3 properties before making a big move and spending what is usually a hefty amount. I'm hi-jacking this thread - apologies.

I wonder if it would be better as a longer programme where they did a week in the UK looking at how they could change things there, in terms of housing/career/work life balance/use of free time etc. Before going out to Aus/NZ as they currently do. Then they could actually do direct comparisons on a proper basis.

feckthemall · 02/02/2017 18:22

Heather I wondered that also about how they could afford to buy the house. Maybe they sold their house in the UK and had a large deposit? It was a fab house though.

Heatherbell1978 · 02/02/2017 18:34

feckthemall I'm sure they said near the beginning that they had £20k from their house sale that they were taking with them to cover everything...I might be wrong to be fair as that would leave a tiny deposit after first few months costs! But made me wonder anyway.

greenworm · 03/02/2017 11:02

Ooh, I don't know if I've seen one of these update ones before.

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:05

You can bet that with careful editing, you'll be led to expect one outcome and the actual outcome will be the opposite.

greenworm · 03/02/2017 11:06

I presume they haven't ended up separating, that would be a bit of a downer!

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:10

Eh oop, this 'ouse is right nice in't it. Bah boom.

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:10

Bah goom (stupid predictive text)

zen1 · 03/02/2017 11:11

I can't see how moving across the other side of the world with no support would save a marriage where the couple were already on the verge of separating

greenworm · 03/02/2017 11:13

You learn a lot about the pros and cons of various jobs from this programme. I'd never have guessed welding was so demanding in terms of hours//travel.

Badcat666 · 03/02/2017 11:14

So she wants him home every night.... but still wants a certain life style obtained by him earning the money working away from home... but doesn't want to leave her mum.

slaps her

Badcat666 · 03/02/2017 11:16

ahhh that's nice! She is "sacrificing her job" so she can stay at home... so putting MORE pressure on her husband to find a high paying job that let's him be home every night.

greenworm · 03/02/2017 11:19

Well it seems like she could earn more than him!

But they never explain how easy or difficult these jobs are to get, how competitive the market is.

LIZS · 03/02/2017 11:21

She'd only earn that after qualifying. Not sure how she'd fund the training in the meantime.

Badcat666 · 03/02/2017 11:25

Bloody hell, if I had that amount left over every month I'd be happy for Mr BC to work away for 5 flipping days a week!!

wideboy26 · 03/02/2017 11:25

Here we go with the tears and the emotional blackmail

Vagndidit · 03/02/2017 11:26

Oh ffs. And the Oscar goes to...

Oldraver · 03/02/2017 11:26

I missed what he was earning working away from home...but its obviously not enough to fund buying a house (yes I realise there could be other factors)..

Surely you need some savings or released equity to fund the expenses of going to Australia and the possibilty of not earning as much fore while and they don't seem to have it

Badcat666 · 03/02/2017 11:27

"We don't care about your marriage failing, we want you to stay in the UK because we, as parents, are more important than you being parents"

meh! Meh I say!
