Wondering if any USA posters can confirm/deny smoking allowed in hospitals particularly maternity wards in 1980?
I don't know about maternity areas, but yes, smoking was allowed in many hospitals in the early 80s. Rooms in US hospitals were at that time mostly "semi-private" in that two people shared a room (now more and more are all private rooms so no wards as such). Smoking was allowed in many hospitals in patient rooms into the mid to late 80s, then in smoking areas and finally by the early-mid 90s forbidden altogether.
I'm in the US and had not watched this show. Thanks to this thread, I started binge-watching last night, only two more episodes to go. It is really good.
