just saw the start of it and already find that upsetting, so definitely not going to watch i'm afraid. its so so sad.

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:06

6 children and one on the way with oldest 2 taking responsibility for all the youngest as they refuse help from social services etc.

poor people feel like its going to be quietly judgemental

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:07

autumnlover I do agree it seems sad must admit am slightly gobsmacked at the parents attitude.

Poor little one left sleeping on the floor by the stairs.

Kbear · 05/02/2007 21:08

had to switch it off already.

Beauregard · 05/02/2007 21:09

Just turned it off ,it has made me cry and upset dp

pollyanna · 05/02/2007 21:10

well I am all for negligent parenting, but this is just incredible

I do think they could have picked a better example than this - I'm' sure there are lots of older siblings caring for their parents/siblins where the parents are not so selfish and imcompetent.

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:10

I just cant believe social services havent insisted on helping out more. The two girls are having to be parents which is not fair.

OP posts:
Beauregard · 05/02/2007 21:11

Dp is now crying too.

topntail · 05/02/2007 21:11

Not sure how to feel about this yet.

It is uncomfortable watching.

The two older girls are amazing but wonder if they will grow up resentful of the fact they missed their childhood.

mrsvern · 05/02/2007 21:12

I can't believe he just said that about the more children there are the more there are to help look after the other . Surely that isnt a reason for more children

That poor love asleep on the floor too.
I can't watch any more

NotAnOtter · 05/02/2007 21:12

i agree pollyanna

karenj1980 · 05/02/2007 21:13

I'm shocked by it

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:13

PFNM it is very sad I agree but unfortunately is also something going on all over the country. I have worked with a lady whose children had to care for her due to mental health and it was not a nice place to do home visits etc. How the poor kids will feel when older I dont know. I was also stunned that despite years of MH intervention no one had thought to help her kids by getting social services involved for support or setting them up in a young careers service.

OP posts:
topntail · 05/02/2007 21:14

Can't believe they were both smoking around the children and surely social services should help out with supplying meals for the children as there is obviously a problem with cooking.

topntail · 05/02/2007 21:15

Just wondering who looks after the younger ones when the girls are at school.

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:17

I cant believe the interviewer has just had to TELL her to check her sons lip

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 05/02/2007 21:17

feel the couple being exploited by channel4

whoopswithminiwhoopstinybump · 05/02/2007 21:18

I was thinking that too
and for the mother to say it looks much better

AitchTwoOh · 05/02/2007 21:18

have only been watching it in the background... but am pretty shocked. the 12 year-old-girl seems a wee bit disturbed to me. (not unsruprisingly.) too detached, iykwim?
does anyone know why the parents refuse more cleaning or cooking help? (and does anyone know why a blind couple can't cook? isn't that a life skill they would have been taught while in education?)

Beauregard · 05/02/2007 21:18

I just cant believe that social services allow the children to live in these conditions
I just never thought that children whose parent/s have a disability would be abandoned in this way,i am obviously very niave.
Dp is really upset,i wish i had never put it on .

tommysmama · 05/02/2007 21:20

Oh my god i am so shocked this is making me cry. How can people let these children live like this? Surely there is some family or social services should intervene.

Im not saying the blind parents shouldnt have children, but 7? come on.

They need some help.

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:20

aitch I agree she is very detatched and the comment about not wanting to hug and kiss the others and also the resentment to her sister.
