all kids hate their sisters round that age - lots shun physical affection

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:22

its not how many kids they have its the fact they obviously cant cope with them at all. The conditions in the house and generally for the children are not nice.

I think social services should insist that they accept more help,at least with the cooking and caring for the youngsters to give the older two a break.

twelveyeargap · 05/02/2007 21:24

Wouldn't be surprised if the parents say they've been exploited and it made to look worse, but the bottom line is that those poor kids live in squalor and the older children have to do far too much. It's very upsetting.

Am sad that the parents have refused help from social services. From the state of the house and the kids clothes, they need more than two hours cleaning a week.

Seems such a burden to that girl that there is a seventh child on the way. The parents are making decisions to have more and more children to feed their own want for a large family, without being able to provide the care they need.

Poor baby eating crusts off the floor and gnawing a block of cheese.

tommysmama · 05/02/2007 21:25

Sorry that is what i meant, by all means have as many children as you like as long as you can cope. Those parents obviously cannot cope, its their daughters doing all the work, and therefore should really stop having children.. sorry i know thats a little controversial. Really dont mean to offend.

I just wish they would get more help, surely a carer should come round every day?

NotAnOtter · 05/02/2007 21:27

he needs that lovely blonde girl!!!

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:30

Do you think it makes a difference if a parent doesnt have children knowing they will need to become careers in some sense?

i didn't hate my two-years-younger sister when i was 12... that came later LOL. and while i didn't like being hugged i loved hugging and kissing my wee brother and baby sister. i do think the girl was in a terrible position, she seemed quite dispassionate about her predicament.

as i say i didn't pay close attention but it seemed to me that they just shone a light on a situation rather than actively sought to exploit the family. the voiceover sounds to me like jane treays, and she's normally a very good and sincere documentarist, not given to easy exploitation. sounds to me like she's a bit shocked by the whole thing.

bandstand · 05/02/2007 21:34

have just found this thread, couldnt believe that social services did nto takechildren away, not tht i would agree with it, but i know people worry about the social services in that respect. i hope they don't now!

Nemo2007 · 05/02/2007 21:35

I didnt like being hugged and kissed but that was due to abuse. I did however like to hug and kiss my little sisters.

Cant believe the bedroom was soo hot.

Its lovely that their children live in such conditions but they can afford fags..

sorry.

tommysmama · 05/02/2007 21:37

Are they PROUD that shen smoked when pregnant??

I cant believe this

swedishmum · 05/02/2007 21:37

Good starting point for discussions with dd1 (13) about choice, social services and Aryan beliefs. I'm playing devil's advocate. Very disturbing though. Dd has come down to viewpoint that ss should insist on providing more family support. Also concerned that blind mum may have some mental impairment (dd not me)- another fascinating topic.

Heathcliffscathy · 05/02/2007 21:38

we are in shock watching this

sweetheart · 05/02/2007 21:38

I think this is disgusting and am finding it very upsetting.

I can't begin to imagine what it is like raising children with such a disability but the blind woman is just plain lazy! Whats wrong with her ears FFS - couldn't she hear her children crying when they hurt themselves - she didn't even move off the sofa!

Totally shocked they admitted more children to help them out - what about love?!?!?!

I know that disabled people have every right to have kids but shurly they should be responsible enough to have the No of children they can cope with. It is clear that they cannot cope!

tortoise · 05/02/2007 21:38

Feel very sad for the family. The baby had very dirty hands. It would be so much better for them to accept help.

AitchTwoOh · 05/02/2007 21:39

i was wondering that too, about both parents. a blow to the head that would cause a brain bleed severe enough to render you blind could presumably leave you with some impairment.

tommysmama · 05/02/2007 21:39

They dont change their nappies all day??!!

GOD someone phone social services. Seriously.

nutcracker · 05/02/2007 21:40

Did they mean then that the babies are left in the same nappy all day ???? Please tell me they didn't mean that.

TwoIfBySea · 05/02/2007 21:40

I was going to watch this until I saw the ad for it earlier. Where the "mother" says she had kids so they would look after her when she is older, and then watched a half dressed baby crawl under a bin.

I knew I would get angry at these people, does no one stop to consider the children growing up with parents like that. I had hoped the advert was just a bad one but it sounds like it is just a bad situation.

It is an insult to every child carer who has parents ashamed of having to burden their children and for whom I have more sympathy. (That didn't sound right, I meant the parent feels upset that they can't do the parenting IYSWIM?)

tortoise · 05/02/2007 21:40

how can they be in the same nappy all day.

bandstand · 05/02/2007 21:41

not very good advertisement for blind parents.
