Bake Off will not be on the BBC in future

The meeting between Love Productions and the BBC has resulted in Bake Off leaving the BBC due to the BBC not offering enough money to keep it! Where will it go and will it be the same?

Mary Berry looks like she has had so much surgery that I'm surprised she can move her face at all

??

Mary Berry hasn't had plastic surgery!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 13/09/2016 11:00

Possibly not but she seems to be trying to look younger by the year!

squoosh · 13/09/2016 11:04

She's fond of a jazzy scarf and jacket but it's not like she's wearing body con dresses and push up bras. You're never too old to take an interest in fashion. I think she looks great.

AuldYow · 13/09/2016 11:08

I certainly won't be watching it on channel 4, the ad breaks will ruin it Sad

It is pure greed from the production company I think this will spectacularly back firemen them when view figures plummet.

BaggyCheeks · 13/09/2016 11:12

squoosh the closest channel 4 have is Come Dine With Me. Yay.

I agree Mary looks fantastic, always really well put together.

"Quality programming" and Channel 4 haven't gone together since Father Ted finished. Love Island and First Dates in-fucking-deed.

squoosh · 13/09/2016 11:14

I hate First Dates. My friends love it, but I just find it so tedious. I don't give a flying fig whether random A and random B enjoy their meal together.

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/09/2016 11:19

Apparently Love Productions, when they were a small independent production company tried for 4 years to sell the Bakeoff to Commercial channels. The only people who gave them a chance were the BBC. They promoted it and grew the audience from nothing to the biggest show on TV. The BBC can't afford to keep investing in new talent yet getting none of the benefit of its long term success, while being hammered by the government at the same time. It's a bigger issue than just Bakeoff.

augustusglupe · 13/09/2016 11:57

It won't be the same, I'm really sad about this, I love bake off just the way it is!! They'll mess around with it and it'll get dumbed down. I feel this is the beginning of the end for GBBO Sad

DrDreReturns · 13/09/2016 12:16

I used to like Channel 4 but it has really gone down the pan over the last decade - really dumbed down programs and, as pp have said, constant repetition. I watched a historical documentary presented by Tony Robinson and even though it was an hour long program the factual content could have been done in about ten minutes! The program will be unwatchable on Channel 4 - it just won't have the same pace.

BabarityOfRoses · 13/09/2016 13:38

I think they know GBBO is on it's last legs, and are cashing in while they can.

leccybill · 13/09/2016 13:41

I think it's a bit of a novelty programme and the novelty is def wearing off.
I also don't think 2 presenters and 2 judges is good value for money!

There's a petition running :)

I imagine Mary might be ready to hang up her apron but I think Paul might want to continue, it's a lucrative deal and he's still relatively young.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 14:06

Paul is the most charmless thing about the show.

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 13/09/2016 14:07

BBC offered £15m per season, twice what they pay for it now. Production company refused to acknowledge anything under £25m. The BBC can't compete with that. The BBC has limited funds as they are capped by the license fee and they get into trouble of they spend too much on specific programmes. They have been hauled over the coals so often lately for various things I can see why they didn't feel they could offer what appears to be over 3 times as much as they currently pay.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37349837

I suspect this is the end for GBBO. It's becoming harder to find things they've not already done anyway but it only takes one change in presenters or a change of format and it will all fall apart.

mrsrhodgilbert · 13/09/2016 14:08

Yes I agree mitzy, I'm not sure I can even finish this series. He's ruining it for me now.

megletthesecond · 13/09/2016 14:13

It should have tootled along on the BBC for a few years yet. CH4 will be the death of it Sad. It'll fall off our family tv radar.

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 13/09/2016 15:07

If Mary/Mel/Sue don't go with it then it's going to tank (I think it could get by without Paul).

Now I've predicted that, watch its audience triple just to prove me wrong. But I can't see its proving to be a good £25m investment.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 15:09

Remember ITV paying millions to lure Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley across to ITV............That didn't turn out to be value for money!

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/09/2016 15:53

The problem is that they poach established staff, put them in golden handcuffs deals, then have to put them on everything in order to get their money's worth. The same thing has happened with Susanna Reid. She's almost unwatchable on its now, but she has a massive pay packet so probably doesn't care

leccybill · 13/09/2016 16:24

I bet Susanna Reid can't even look at herself in the mirror. She was fairly credible and quite well-liked by viewers on the BBC.

I can't stand ITV. I hate the vacuousnesss of it and the adverts, recaps, competitions and general over promotion of everything. Channel 4 I can tolerate a little more but not much.

TickleMcTickleFace · 13/09/2016 16:40

When it goes to Channel 4 I think the quality of the contestants will plummet. It will be people who want to be famous no matter what, the same people who pop up on first dates and then countless other reality shows until they end up on celebrity big brother Angry also the comic relief bake off series won't happen Sad
And what about all the bake off themed bakeware?! Won't someone think of the Boots Christmas catalogue!

MegCleary · 13/09/2016 16:42

Mel and `Sue not going to Channel 4!

TinyPawz · 13/09/2016 16:42

Sue and Mel not going to channel 4 with bake off Sad
