Bake Off will not be on the BBC in future

The meeting between Love Productions and the BBC has resulted in Bake Off leaving the BBC due to the BBC not offering enough money to keep it! Where will it go and will it be the same?

Don't forget drum rolls and fire, and some nudity Miss Tick.

PerspicaciaTick · 12/09/2016 20:53

Ooh yes Moo - and lots of repeating tantalizing wee clips at the start of the programme, during the programme, before the ad breaks, coming back from the ad breaks.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 12/09/2016 20:54

Yes part one is saying what's coming in part two and part two is a recap of part one and a look ahead to part three... blink oh shit we missed the cake...

It's going to Channel 4 (think a poster did mention this already), so not ITV.

So now it will probably be Naked Bake Off On Benefits or similar.

I am not happy. The BBC are idiots to let this go.

bojorojo · 12/09/2016 22:02

The production company wanted more money and the BBC gets caned if it spends too much License Fee on individual programmes and sport. Lots of sport has gone from the BBC. I am quite surprised Channel 4 can afford Bake Off if the BBC cannot or will not. I quite like C4 but ad breaks are annoying.

So now instead of an hour of programming we're going to get 40minutes plus 20mins of adverts. Not forgetting the bloody recap at the beginning and end of every break as if we all have the memory of a gold fishHmm

I'm not happy, I don't see GBBO as a Channel4 show at all, I think this might be the beginning of the end.

Do you think Love Productions might change its mind if they read this thread?!

On a serious note, I don't think I'll be watching it on Channel 4 because of the adverts. I loved catching up on iplayer when I couldn't watch it live! Channel 4 on demand isn't the same (again the adverts!). And wouldn't the programme be shortened because of the adverts?

Lookdownthesofa · 12/09/2016 22:30

I went to see Sue Perkins' live show the other night and during a segment about GBBO she said something about saying "bake!" in an "increasingly can't be arsed manner".

I wonder if she's getting fed up with the show and won't follow it to C4? (And whether or not she would have signed up to a further series on the BBC?)

MargotLovedTom · 12/09/2016 22:33

Ha Magic I also wondered if it would now be performed in the nude, with rounds for the most lifelike genitalia fashioned from baked goods and so on.
I think Mel possibly needs Bake Off more than Sue (although that sounds a bit mean).

Salutarychoring · 12/09/2016 22:33

Can't see Mary Berry following it to Channel 4 tbh

MargotLovedTom · 12/09/2016 22:35

I hate that recapping after adverts as well. I watched Rescue Dog to Superdog with dd (age 10) and she took to shouting "YES! WE KNOW!!" when the commentary blathered on yet again after the break.

MargotLovedTom · 12/09/2016 22:37

They might even do 9 Out of 10 Cats Can Bake Off, with Jimmy Carr honking like a fucking seal every two minutes Angry.

WatchMeSoar · 12/09/2016 22:37

I adore bake off, but when it leaves I won't follow it, it's never the same.

PerspicaciaTick · 12/09/2016 22:48

I haven't even been able to follow Family Guy to ITV, let alone GBBO to C4.

I feel uncomfortable watching the current series now - sort of like we're attending a very well catered wake.

IdaDown · 12/09/2016 22:58

Annoying fucking ad breaks

CH4 will milk Bake Off's teats like ITV did with Downton.

Remember the 10 minutes before the end break.

Money grubbing production company.

Their viewing figures will tank like Top Gear.

bojorojo · 12/09/2016 23:18

Love Productions is owned by Sky - so says Lorraine Heggessey former BBC1 controller on Newsnight just now. The BBC has invested a great deal in this programme, she says, and a lot of its success is down to them, not just the production company who wanted way more than the BBC could afford. I am rather surprised it has not gone to Sky.

RebootYourEngine · 13/09/2016 06:11

Love Productions moved for a reported 75 million pounds. Now that is definitely greed. I wont be watching, tbh i havent really paid much attention to this series.

VikingLady · 13/09/2016 07:31

I'm hoping they film the same amount and split it over 90min. That way it'll still be an hour when I watch it on catch up and ff through the adverts.

It will decline in quality though. It's inevitable. Pressure from advertisers.

Davros · 13/09/2016 08:13

Dump new Top Gear, saving Huge fees to its new "stars" and keep GBBO. boom!

gastropod · 13/09/2016 08:15

Bugger. No ITV here (Belgium), only BBC! Oh well, I expect it'll be rubbish if they mess around with it anyway.

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/09/2016 08:24

They won't do 90 minutes to cover ads, or at least not after the first year. Love productions said something about joining quality programmes on C4 like Gogglebox and First Dates. I had to LOL. I hope the presenters don't go with it. They asked for £25 million whereas before they were getting £5m. That is greed. I hope it does a death now. The BBC isnt an FE college for TV programmes. It isnt there to put all the grunt work in and wave their shows happily off to commercial TV. The Tories and Murdoch are getting what they want. Death of public service broadcasting by stealth Angry

squoosh · 13/09/2016 10:25

Argh. So irritated by this.

It should be left alone in its cosy little ad free world. Create your own bloody baking show Channel 4!

squoosh · 13/09/2016 10:26

And as much as I love this how I hope all the current presenters say 'no, ta' and that it falls flat on its face in its new home.
