Every week I turn to DH about the unfairness of making them carry their showstoppers. Especially the gingerbread houses etc. We all know the planning it takes to transport wedding and birthday cakes that have taken much longer to make and aren't fresh out of the oven.

IMO that sort of thing pushes the GBBO into the format of reality shows where the producers are hoping to make people fail.

MiddleClassProblem · 11/09/2016 20:05

I think it has partly happened to keep it current and evolving so people don't get bored and partly because of the hype around such situations as bin gate. People want a similar thing every year now

iklboo · 11/09/2016 21:14

The technical challenge instructions are so sparse now I'm expecting the next one just to say 'bake summat'.

MiddleClassProblem · 11/09/2016 23:50

Speaking of bin gate! What a lege and lovely that so many of his fellow bakers were there!

Eeep! Just seen on the news that GBBO is leaving the BBC. Does this mean we're going to have to put up with ads in between our bakes?

emotionsecho · 12/09/2016 18:33

I thought that wasn't happening Jolie as Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood refused to go to ITV?

MiddleClassProblem · 12/09/2016 18:35

It has been announced but guessing we won't know the ins and outs until next year. It won't be the same with them but it might not anyway.

JolieColombe · 12/09/2016 18:37

It was announced as definite on the BBC news Sad Sorry missed there was a separate thread didn't mean to derail this one! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/2731065-Bake-Off-will-not-be-on-the-BBC-in-future

emotionsecho · 12/09/2016 18:50

Just seen it Jolie, sorry! There were rumours earlier this year which I thought has been quashed, bugger I'm cross, it won't be the same and only became as popular as it is because of the BBC and the audience of the BBC. Shame on you Love Productions.

JinkxMonsoon · 12/09/2016 18:52

I will be DISGUSTED if Love Productions refuse to sign with the Beeb. They can pretend that changing channels won't change the feel of the show, but it absolutely will.

I'm also feeling a bit disillusioned with more recent series and the contestants being set up to fail for the drama. There DEFINITELY wasn't enough time given last week. Then there's the lack of freezer space that's happened more than once. I don't want to see raw dough after raw dough. I don't want to see people dropping things. I want to see good things.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 12/09/2016 18:56

This year has been odd so far.

Too little time, contestants trying too hard too many things, Paul revealing in his Panto Villain role.

I would have wanted to see it go back to basics, but I suppose it's not going to happen on ITV.

MiddleClassProblem · 12/09/2016 20:24

It's channel 4 not itv though so that's something 😉

raisedbyguineapigs · 12/09/2016 21:09

What a shame Sad. It will definitely change. They'll need more and more drama to attract advertisers.

StopLaughingDrRoss · 12/09/2016 23:41

I just came on with my Daily Mail sadface about the news it's loving to C4.

I really can't see how it will continue - and the fact they've only just started discussions with presenters and judges.. I fear change and I don't want to face a future without Mel & Sue at the helm with Paul & Mary being Paul & Mary Sad

BBC News

StopLaughingDrRoss · 12/09/2016 23:41

*moving

Tibblesthecat · 12/09/2016 23:56

I read that C4s first episode will be a celebrity bake off. Has that been done before? I hate celebrity shows of any kind.

I remember when Trinny & Susannah left BBC and the show fell apart.

Isn't the Great British Sewing Bee the same format? I hope that isn't going too?

MiddleClassProblem · 12/09/2016 23:58

Yup we've had a few years of it but for comic relief

PerspicaciaTick · 13/09/2016 00:20

I have a soft spot for the celebrity GBBO episodes, I like the range of people they get and I suspect that a C4 celebrity show might struggle to get such a diverse group of people as Sam Cam, Michael Sheen and Dame Edna for a series which wasn't in support of a hugely respected charity such as Comic Relief.

RebootYourEngine · 13/09/2016 05:54

Apparently according to thedaily fail they moved from bbc to channel 4 for 75 million pounds. I just think that shows that its down to greed.

The Bake Off is doing really well on the bbc but i think it will be completely different. Dont think i will be watching next year Sad

MiddleClassProblem · 13/09/2016 17:15

No Mel and sue
www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37355065

Tibblesthecat · 13/09/2016 17:57

I just logged on to say I read neither Sue or Mel will move. They help make the show what it is. Perhaps all good things come to an end. I will miss them a lot, I like snuggling on the sofa with a cup of tea and some biscuits watching this programme and Mel and Sue make me giggle.

On a business level, I am surprised they won't even give it one year. Perhaps that would have bigger implications and would break their contracts with the BBC.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 13/09/2016 18:15

I don't know why channel 4 would pay so much for it without even guaranteeing the presenters would stay. Surely it'll tank without them Confused

RebootYourEngine · 13/09/2016 18:44

I read somewhere that mel and sue are contracted to Love Productions and not the bbc. Not sure what will happen to them now.

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/09/2016 18:48

They are, but their contracts run out when the Bakeoff contract runs out. They have decided not to renew their contract with Love. If the Been have any sense, they'll contract them for something and get them for a baking master chef or something.

SoupDragon · 14/09/2016 07:25

I wonder what the legal implications of the BBC starting Master Baker (probably not that name now I've said it a few times!)?

Might there be some sort of copyright on the format?
