I wouldn't have thought anyone could stop them as Master chef is a BBC format. I'm not sure they could have all 4 staff, but Paul and Mary, or if Paul goes, either Mary and Mel or Sue.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 14/09/2016 08:08

Paul and Mary work as pair, good cop, bad cop thing.
can't stand Smugface Paul

raisedbyguineapigs · 14/09/2016 08:16

Yes I think if Paul goes with the mi key, Mary will either retire or do some light baking programmes like the Bakeoff Master classes. Mel and Sue are an established double act, so could do Master chef with a baking type person.

raisedbyguineapigs · 14/09/2016 08:17

Money! Honestly my spell check is gibberish!

SoupDragon · 14/09/2016 08:30

It was more the whole tent format etc. I wondered if that is protected somehow. They could do MasterChef with bakers though

MiddleClassProblem · 14/09/2016 09:01

I'm not sure you can copyright titles as there as films, songs, books with the sane names out there.

It's annoying when you see Crash is on tv then find out it's a completely different film

SoupDragon · 14/09/2016 09:17

It's the format I was talking about. Master Chef, for example, is a different format to Bake Off. You tend not to get identical TV game shows on different channels, they are always slightly different (The Voice v X Factor for example).

Why would C4 need to spend £75m on Bake Off if they could just create a copycat programme?

JinkxMonsoon · 14/09/2016 10:00

I don't think the tent format is copyrighted Soup, because ITV tried to rip it off with a baking and bunting programme fronted by Carol Vorderman. I'm sure it was in a tent. Wish I could remember its name. I'll Google it now!

MiddleClassProblem · 14/09/2016 10:01

Oh, totally didn't read that properly. There is little interest in completely copying it anyway as if it were identical viewers would just complain it was a rip off anyway so they have to mix it up a bit but maybe lack of the tent would make it feel like a new animal anyway

JinkxMonsoon · 14/09/2016 10:04

Aha! It was called "Food Glorious Food" and it was a search to find the country's "best home cooked dish". So they tried not to make it specifically about baking. But look how similar the imagery was.

Yeah, it got panned

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/09/2016 18:20

Some formats must be protected - like Strictly has been sold all over the place as DWTS. Perhaps that's different though, because it's by the BBC, not just a random production company?

I was shocked to find out that University Challenge is actually produced by ITV!

Hi all, everyone OK?
I have my trusted prosecco in hand, and may may even treat myself to some quavers. DH is doing bedtimes. Grin

fourquenelles · 14/09/2016 20:05

NoelHeadbands · 14/09/2016 20:07

My Yorkshires don't look the same from one side of the tray to the other. Tough challenge.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 14/09/2016 20:08

Surely Yorkshire puddings don't need flavourings or fillings?! And they're not really supposed to be all perfect and uniform.

bookbook · 14/09/2016 20:08

in my house (in Yorkshire) I have to make extra for jam Grin - is that filling? But yes , a good onion gravy and a sausage

LetsJunglyJumpToIt · 14/09/2016 20:09

Making them all the same is impossible surely?

My DM likes Yorkshires with jam!

Trills · 14/09/2016 20:09

Yorkshires are all about how someone's mum does it, aren't they?

MiddleClassProblem · 14/09/2016 20:09

Jam! Genius. I don't think I can make individual ones just a big toad in the hole lol

MiddleClassProblem · 14/09/2016 20:10

Looking forward to going back to buying things rather than making it next week

fourquenelles · 14/09/2016 20:10

That looks yum. I have had Slimming World chocolate brownies, strawberries and quark cream tonight and I am stuffed but suffering from artificial sugar after taste.
