Oh, Ron!

I didn't just google "GBBO Andrew, honestly

NeonPinkNails · 07/09/2016 21:21

I think I read earlier on the other thread that Kate is actually really nice IRL but she comes across as incredibly smug and annoying - reminds me of Holly a few series back. To be fair though it could just be the editing.

eddiemairswife · 07/09/2016 21:23

There's always one I can't stand. This year it's Kate, last year the middle-aged Scottish teenager, and the year before Ruby Tandoh. does anyone else think that Tom has a look of Steve MacDonald from Corrie?

ClaraLane · 07/09/2016 21:30

That was probably me who said that Neon. I saw her today and had to fight the urge to shout something bake off related!

emotionsecho · 07/09/2016 21:31

That was a tough week some of the contestants were incredibly lucky to survive that.

I was so pleased that Benjamina did well in the Showstopper round but Val is still getting on my nerves and I would avoid eating anything she made due to her penchant for incorporating her own bodily fluids, tonight she even carried on touching stuff whilst bleeding from a cut - yuck.

raisedbyguineapigs · 07/09/2016 21:35

I forgot why Tom was so good, and why Michael was so bad. The tasks just seemed too difficult, and none of them did particularly well. Kate does come across as smug. You get the feeling she really, really wants to win but shes put on the whole 'simple country girl' act.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2016 22:10

Don't get why Val is still on.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/09/2016 22:18

I don't hate Kate but think she's reeling off some stereotypical check list and it makes me want to tell her to shut up. I want more bants from her, then I can forgive her for whatever pancake tradition story we will hear from her next week.

iklboo · 07/09/2016 22:32

Coo-eee!

Kate needs to let some swears drop or something. She's coming across a bit twee.

My Louise Has Been Chucked Out flapjacks went down very well at work this week though. Grin

SoupDragon · 07/09/2016 22:37

Val is still in through luck. There has always been someone wh has cocked up more than her. To be fair, she did win the technical challenge this week so it could have been on her own merits this time!

PitchFork · 07/09/2016 22:39

bread week without bread. pah. ignoring the showstopper
in germany the first round 'breads' are sold as cakes. and 'dampfnudeln' are a dessert and mr hollywood's were far too dry
they are devine though. especially when filled with poppy seeds. yum.

NoelHeadbands · 07/09/2016 23:00

Missed tonight's programme as I was at the theatre watching Sue Perkins live show Shock

Which was very entertaining, very funny, and utterly charming. Thoroughly recommend if anyone has chance to catch it.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/09/2016 23:04

I'm out but marking place for when I've watched!

ElspethFlashman · 07/09/2016 23:12

Kate seems to live in one of those villages that I thought only existed in ITV cosy crime afternoon telly. Its......disconcerting.

Candice really needs to stop weeping. DH has decided shes a drama llama. He noted that she always seems to attract sympathy and help from everyone around cos she does this hand wringing "I'm so shit" thing.

I want to see a bit more Benjamina. She seems fun, but has been in the background thus far. Maybe she's too normal.

Tibblesthecat · 08/09/2016 00:05

I think Paul has taken a dislike to Val. Even though she won the technical, she is on his hit list to leave. Usually that doesn't happen until much later in the series when there are fewer contestants left. There are worse bakers than her so it makes me uncomfortable watching him being quite mean to her.

SoupDragon · 08/09/2016 07:39

Virtually everyone was on his hit list to leave this week. Both her other bakes were bad though

Oblomov16 · 08/09/2016 07:45

Agree with the 3 loaves on top of eachother. Boring. 2 or 3 of the others were also quite boring, rather than showstoppers.

MiddleClassProblem · 08/09/2016 11:49

Candice does help other bakers put too though, seen it a few times now.

Albadross · 08/09/2016 19:46

I knew one of them looked familiar - she was deputy head at a local school my mum worked at!

Neddle · 10/09/2016 13:03

Haven't caught up with this week yet, but I was browsing on Amazon and saw Nadiya's book for children - would be a good Christmas present.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/09/2016 16:05

Considering these are meant to be good bakers

I was surprised how many had Raw dough in the middle of their bread

Know the time limit must be stressful and you have to be organised to mix ingredients and get in the oven

Still don't like the lipstick - diff colour each week and all make her mouth look like a cats bum

Or a bulldog who has Been stung by a wasp as DF remarks

Igottastartthinkingbee · 11/09/2016 16:35

Wow, didn't even finish reading the last thread and we're already on page 3 of the second!

I watched the last episode on catchup so I'm a bit behind. Standard isn't up to much so far or maybe the tasks are too hard? Anyway, still bloody love Bake Off!

Trojanhorsebox · 11/09/2016 17:20

I'm new to Bake Off and loving it!

I was surprised by all the raw dough. If it happens to one person I'd assume they'd messed up but when it happens to so many I would think they were set up to fail and not given enough time?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 11/09/2016 17:31

The time they had was too short, the dough needed to rise and and there simply wasn't time for that.

It also seems to have been filmed in cold weather in a tent, even though they have proving drawers, but still not the best environment for rich yeast dough.

That's why most breads were dark on top and raw in the middle.

LemonRedwood · 11/09/2016 19:11

I've just been rewatching series 2 on sky. It definitely has a different feel about it.

Paul and Mary seem more accepting of "amateurish" presentation in signature challenges, as in they just look like good old home made bakes. The technicals did still have slimmed down instructions but at least they'd heard of them all! Showstoppers were judged at the end of the benches. DH reckons they make them carry them up at the end now because they're hoping someone will drop something.
