Thanks for the info and the link. There was another article there on Lady Flora. Interesting.

I'm rather liking the upstairs -downstairs slant, it makes it a bit different from the Young Victoria film. Rufus Sewell is gorgeous, I remember being on holiday years ago and seeing some scenes from The Woodlanders being filmed. He and some other actors were relaxing after filming and I walked past, got as close as I dared and stared into those stunning hazel eyes....DH got a bit panicky and hurried me on.....Grin

Rosieagree,i knew nothing of her younger years and am really enjoying that part

From her portraits, I don't think she was hideous when she was a teenager, just a bit plain. Jenna Coleman is very pretty though. It would be difficult to find an actress as tiny as her and one who looked exactly like her. I think Jenna did a good job there.

raisedbyguineapigs · 28/08/2016 23:01

I think it was to let her know she owed her one. She was a bit of a bully getting her to clean out the chamberpots. So now she has her over a barrel. She didn't tell her that the Queen didn't mind her gloves being sold. I really don't like candle man.

seasidesally · 28/08/2016 23:04

was Victoria small framed and short then

i always thought she was bigger,im sure its those petticoats/dresses that made them look bigger

I'm in the States; we don't get this until January. Looking forward to it, but the previews did seem a bit odd looking.

Agree about the lovely Rufus. Did anyone see him as Charles II?

crje · 28/08/2016 23:09

I enjoyed it.
I didn't know about the movie.
Good or bad idea to watch it tomorrow?

raisedbyguineapigs · 28/08/2016 23:17

She was very short , less than 5' but plumper than Jenna Coleman. According to my DS' s book' 50 'greatest kings and queens' she ate a lot so was quite fat. Her poor and starving subjects hated her for it.

seasidesally · 28/08/2016 23:18

interesting, well im watching tomorrow, hope im not alone Smile

Would this be ok for children to watch?

Runny · 29/08/2016 00:05

This didn't really come close to touching how awful and controlling John Conroy really was to Victoria. The Young Victoria focuses on this a lot more.

MintyChops · 29/08/2016 02:52

My kids have a more convincing crown to play with (and no, I am not Kate Middleton)! Crap cgi too, hope they tone that down and it might turn out to be good.

I also understood that Melborne practically ignored his son. He apparently had learning difficulties. I don't think he was the little boy that he was made out to be.

Runny · 29/08/2016 10:18

She soon ditches Lord M when Albert comes on the scene....

raisedbyguineapigs · 29/08/2016 10:26

Yes it's funny when people talk about 'Victorian values' (for many reasons) as the austere prudish times were quite far away from what she was allegedly like. Her daughter heavily censored her diaries to get rid of the rude bits! Evidently the 9 children were a side effect of her not being g able to keep her hands off Albert rather than a desire to populate the entire European Monarchy!

MitzyLeFrouf · 29/08/2016 11:23

I didn't like it. Jenna Coleman's beauty was far too distracting. We all know Victoria looked more like a turnip than a beauty queen. But I suppose turnip like women don't draw in the Sunday night viewers!

Plus the CGI was pretty poor.

(sorry, i dont know how to make that massive link into a word or 2!!)
I don't think young Victoria was horrific looking. Just a bit plain and chinless. Granted, Jenna Coleman is very pretty, but I cant think of many actresses who would have Queen Victorias 'unique' combination of short, chinless and plain Grin
