One week to go. Anyone else can't wait?
I've just started to rewatch the first series. Not sure if I'll get to watch it all again before next Sunday though.

Wish they had spent more of the episode on the trial in that case as that would have been great to watch!

emotionsecho · 13/09/2016 19:54

Destiny the original series is well worth a watch, it is longer and there is a lot less of the story packed into each episode but that does allow more of the characters and their stories to develop, (admittedly in some places that is too muchGrin).

I'm enjoying comparing and contrasting the actors for the characters in each version.

woodhill · 13/09/2016 20:05

The original George was the wonderful late Ralph Bates who went on to star in Dear John.

Yes I remember the original trial in the book made more sense but haven't read it for years.

Destinysdaughter · 13/09/2016 20:11

I did watch the original Poldark but I was only a child so don't remember too much of the details now!

ElspethFlashman · 13/09/2016 21:27

All I remember of the original series is one scene where Ross and Demelza kiss and when they part there's a trail of spit that stays firmly connected to their mouths.

Stayed there through like 3 lines. Swaying in the breeze like a clothesline, lol.

Couldn't watch it after that!

ShelaghTurner · 14/09/2016 04:22

I only discovered Poldark about 15 years ago - I was 3 when the original series went out! I stumbled across a rerun at stupid o'clock one morning on UK Gold Grin. Within a month I had read all 11 books (12th book came after that) and got all the videos. When I like something I don't mess about! Blush

Destinysdaughter · 14/09/2016 06:51

The more I think about it the more annoyed I feel about how the trial was portrayed ( compared to the original ). Feels like this version is going to be more style over substance. And since Aidan is soooo popular, they don't really need to work that hard on the script as long as he takes his top off!

Sunnymeg · 14/09/2016 12:39

Shelagh and emotion I do wonder how they are going to portray Biggins character in the new series. The line "Come let us say a prayer Morwenna and then you shall show me your feet" totally creeped me out as a 12 year old!

painbadger · 14/09/2016 14:51

Christopher Biggins was so creepy and repulsive. I wonder who will replace him? I also loved the original Judd with his missing teeth - everyone looks too clean in this one.

TheHiphopopotamus · 14/09/2016 15:01

Obviously in the minority here, but I enjoyed Ep 2. More than the first episode anyway but then I haven't read that far in the books or seen the original series, although I couldn't understand how he got found not guilty either.

I'm not Cornish but the way the actors are pronouncing 'Poldark' with the heavy emphasis on the Pol has started to get on my nerves though, especially as the doctor couldn't make up his mind between pronunciations either.

TheHiphopopotamus · 14/09/2016 16:53

Got that wrong Blush They're doing it the other way pol-DARK, I think. Well, whichever way it is, it's annoying.

ElspethFlashman · 14/09/2016 16:56

OMG yes to the PolDAAAHK thing. WTF? Sounds totally wrong!

TheHiphopopotamus · 14/09/2016 17:56

elspeth glad it's not just me. The actors all seem to be in competition with each other as to who can say it and make it sound the daftest.

'Mr Pol-daaark'
'Pul-DARK'
'P'l'DAAARRK'

snozzlemaid · 14/09/2016 18:08

Yes, yes, yes. Emphasis on 'dark' is all wrong.
And yes Christopher Biggins' was very disturbing. Wonder how creepy they will make the character this time.

painbadger yes they are very clean and with pretty good teeth in this versionGrin, Jacca and his daughter certainly wouldn't pass muster and I do love hearing Jacca say "Oi 'it it" in the original.

emotionsecho · 14/09/2016 18:30

Sunnymeg I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't sanitise the whole character and story line and as they are packing a lot into each episode it may be a very brief strand of the story.

TheHiphopopotamus · 18/09/2016 22:53

Good episode tonight, seems to be hitting its stride.

But for god's sake! The pronunciations! Tonight we had the usual 'P'ldaaark' and within two seconds of the opening credits we also had 'f'nances' for finances. Has someone told them that this is how they spoke in ye olden days? Hmm

Also, it looks like Ross might take his shirt off next week 👍

ReggaeShark · 18/09/2016 22:59

PolDARK is correct. Not that I'm watching series 2.

Dizzybintess · 18/09/2016 23:04

Dear lord there was no shirtless scything again tonight #bbcidemandarefund!

theluckiest · 18/09/2016 23:54

I hate to say it, but am finding this series a bit dull. It looks gorgeous and perfectly watchable, just some ooomf appears to be missing.

It's kind of like a National Trust shop - I like them, love the historical stuff & pretty things but always come out empty handed as there was nothing new or exciting in there...

Poldark fans - will there be oomf? I clocked that Aiden appears to be suspiciously loose in the shirt dept in next week's trailer so things might yet brighten up...

ElspethFlashman · 19/09/2016 00:09

It is a bit dull. Not sure if its the rather slow pacing or what. Those endless shots of the sky really slow things down. And the whole thing appears to be shot either at dawn or sunset. Quit it with the skies and get to the good stuff!

Ross is unfortunately coming across as no great prize. He makes appalling business decisions and is basically indifferent to his wife. He accuses her of being sluttish just cos she had a visitor - HIS friend! Then he pervs all over his neighbours wife after no encouragement whatsoever. Honestly, at this stage I think taking his shirt off is all hes good for.

Dizzybintess · 19/09/2016 00:27

I agree it's defo slow at the moment and he is coming across as a bit of a shit

ShelaghTurner · 19/09/2016 02:01

Caroline still sucks. Ross is a sod. George is a big fat nelly. Elizabeth is too likeable. Demelza has no spirit. Not a great ep that one.

Tworingsandamicrowave · 19/09/2016 05:05

Finding it remittingly grim and will give it one more episode; I am so disappointed with this series.

ElspethFlashman · 19/09/2016 07:58

Yes Demelza is coming across as a bit Surrendered Wife. Ross is definitely the Boss in that house, that's for sure.
