One week to go. Anyone else can't wait?
I've just started to rewatch the first series. Not sure if I'll get to watch it all again before next Sunday though.

No, Demelza was pregnant for five seconds, had the baby in some sort of near peril and that was the last we saw of it. Dunno if it has a name or if the dog is looking after it a la Peter Pan or what.

I've been really disappointed in this series tbh and I'm considering giving up on it. It's so disjointed. None of what the characters are doing makes sense, the timelines are all over the place and Ross is just an arsehole. I hope he fucks off with Elizabeth permanently and leaves Demelza to a better life without him.

ElspethFlashman · 12/10/2016 09:50

I was a bit Shock when in the last episode Elizabeth was all "Two years ago when Francis invested in Wheel Grace...." .

Wasn't that just two episodes ago??!

And then Ross and Demelza had their pathetic Christmas dinner and there was a fucking toddler sat at a big chair just out of shot - WTF?!

It's becoming a bit hilarious, actually.

murphys · 12/10/2016 10:01

The timing is quite bizarre. Its a bit of a joke now in the house, when it starts we say 'ok so what year are we in now'.

In this last episode, how long has Francis been dead for? As Elizabeth is still wearing mourning clothes, but suddenly Caroline is back after being away for 6 or 7 months? Its confusing.

sooperdooper · 12/10/2016 21:13

Thank you TheHiphopopotamus, I thought I'd accidentally watched it in the wrong order from the ones I'd had recorded!!

HuckleberryGin · 16/10/2016 21:55

What is George up to?

Sallystyle · 16/10/2016 21:59

Is he going to shag Elizabeth or what?

I bloody hope not.

woodhill · 16/10/2016 22:00

Good tonight

Magicpaintbrush · 16/10/2016 22:01

Best episode of this series tonight imho. Very smuggly :-)

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/10/2016 22:10

Really enjoyed tonight's. Good episode.

99littleducks · 16/10/2016 22:15

Yep a bit of a thriller tonight.

Oh no, he's going to do it next week... that was a rather horrible "Get out of my way" to Demelza at the end Shock

haveacupoftea · 16/10/2016 23:29

Anyone secretly wishing Ross would fall overboard and Demelza could marry Dr Ennys - or anyone actually except her arsehole husband?

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/10/2016 07:13

Yes!! haveacupoftea that's what I was hoping for last night Grin

badtasteflump · 17/10/2016 10:55

I'm struggling with series 2 tbh - definitely lost something compared with series 1. And I want to like Demelza but she's really starting to grate with her 'I don't approve' face and her constant "Raaaaaaaaaaaass" - ing. And who looks after their son?

I would have given up episodes ago if it wasn't for Aiden Smile

ElspethFlashman · 17/10/2016 12:02

I'd have given up ages ago if it weren't for Dwight. He is the only one managing to elicit sympathy.

Caroline is still utterly dull - even in the coach when she was all upset, she just looked like she had a cold. I couldn't help thinking that a different actress would have been actually crying.

Elizabeth was ridiculous - "How dare that married man not dance attendance on me?" Pfffttt.

Auntie is AWESOME.

I am confused as to one thing - I thought that in the books George loved Elizabeth always? (As much as he could anyway ) Am I wrong on that? Cos in the series he seems like a bit of a robot.

beguilingeyes · 17/10/2016 12:14

In the books it's his one redeeming feature. He has always loved Elizabeth. Treats her like a lady, protected her from the worst of Francis's debts. He would never have basically tried to get her into bed while her husband was still alive like this one.

badtasteflump · 17/10/2016 12:16

I agree Elspeth, I think in the series they are trying to turn him into JR Ewing in period costume. Makes him a bit one dimensional though.

ElspethFlashman · 17/10/2016 12:21

He's just trapping her to piss off Ross.

They're possibly going to shoehorn in a line where he says he is truly fond of her but it would seem like a blatant lie now cos he's shown nothing but manipulation thus far.

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/10/2016 12:34

I really like him this series. Much, much better than Ross and the tedious Caroline doesn't deserve him. In fact, I'm not quite sure how they've got to this point where they're eloping (terrible scriptwriter, I'm looking at you).

Last night was the first time I've felt anything towards Elizabeth too. She needs to bog off and find another bloke to wait on her, instead of one who has his own family to look after.

I know everyone hates Demelza this series but I thought she got a bit of her spark back last night (yep, terrible scriptwriter, I'm looking at you again).

Penvelopesnightie · 17/10/2016 12:39

Poor Demelza goes through so much stress , I'm sure it would be a blessing if Ross fell overboard out on the little boat and she could just worry about herself and " the baby upstairs".

ShelaghTurner · 17/10/2016 13:15

I can recite the books I know them that well. And I still have fuck all idea how Dwight and Caroline have ended up together in this series!

ginghamstarfish · 17/10/2016 13:28

Another one disappointed in S2 - I know the books like the back of my hand, and agree that the timelines are odd, some characters not as they should be, some key things left out or not explained. Such a pity as the settings, scenery, costumes etc is all so good, why not stick more closely to the books?

ginghamstarfish · 17/10/2016 13:31

I always thought George wanted Elizabeth both because she's proper 'gentry', which he desperately aspires to be, and to get on over on Ross. I don't know about love ...

ShelaghTurner · 17/10/2016 13:51

I think he loves her in his way. That and wanting some good breeding stock although she was never thought to be all that as far as her ability to breed was concerned! I almost think the oneupmanship over Ross was secondary. He milked it when he had her but I don't think that was his reason as such. More to do with being part of the family and house (Trenwith) that he had watched as a boy but never been part of.

2rebecca · 17/10/2016 18:08

I can't be bothered with this series. The endless battle with George is getting tedious and Elizabeth is a wooden faced doll. It's too up and down. I presume the books are like this. I just feel emotionally manipulated by series like this that swing from high to low in a few minutes.

woodhill · 17/10/2016 18:19

Books are brilliant, so much detail and far more subtle.
