One week to go. Anyone else can't wait?
I've just started to rewatch the first series. Not sure if I'll get to watch it all again before next Sunday though.

Ross is behaving like a right knob these days... ignoring his wife, getting involved in crime after just narrowly missing the noose, making ridiculous financial decisions which would amount to financial abuse in today's age! Grin

If i were Demelza I'd be well fed up of him!

99littleducks · 09/10/2016 23:56

And sexy sticking don't make up for it in my book I'm afraid Hmm

Dulra · 10/10/2016 08:27

99littleducks ross is constantly doing things that are questionable. I am reading the books and I go from loving ross to despising him every few chapters. I am reading the angry tide at the moment think it's the 6th book and I am back to disliking him again. So I am not surprised that's how people feel watching the series.

I'm still enjoying it i agree caroline isn't great but tbh I don't really like her character in the book either so don't feel as let down as others on here

myfavouritecolourispurple · 10/10/2016 08:53

The ridiculous financial decision is marginally less ridiculous in the book, because I think Caroline buys the promissory note FIRST, so he knows he's ok financially and THEN he uses a similar device to get the £600 to Elizabeth. No idea why they changed the order of events round in the TV series but it makes him look more stupid than he is.

The £600 later becomes yet another issue for him and Warleggan to squabble over, but I won't spoil!

ShelaghTurner · 10/10/2016 08:55

^ yes! Why did they do it that way, it completely bolloxed up the story. He gave Elizabeth the money because his arse had been saved by Caroline.

99littleducks · 10/10/2016 09:30

That was meant to be stockings above Blush

I can see he's not the typical hero who does everything he should. His decisions seem selfish a lot of the times.

But his blatant love for Elizabeth is getting silly. For someone who is considers himself morally above others, he manages to forget he has a wife quite frequently.

ElspethFlashman · 10/10/2016 09:38

Yeah, he's a total and complete hypocrite. And he always thinks he's right.

And Aidan Turners English accent is shit.

myfavouritecolourispurple · 10/10/2016 10:10

And Aidan Turners English accent is shit

Was that meant ironically? I've not noticed a slip at all.

ElspethFlashman · 10/10/2016 11:11

I'm Irish, so perhaps I can hear it easier, but he keeps slipping into pure 100% South Dublin. Even the rhythm is Dublin.

When the dude who played Francis was American and nailed it, it really sticks out for me.

TheHiphopopotamus · 10/10/2016 11:27

But his blatant love for Elizabeth is getting silly

Yes, especially when Elizabeth is so vacant. She was all hair last night. Maybe that's the attraction. No point standing on a windy cliff top, looking thoughtfully out to sea, if there's no hair whipping majestically about your mush.

MitzyLeFrouf · 10/10/2016 11:37

It irritates me that for most of each episode Ross and Demelza just snap and grump at each other and then suddenly something happens............like him giving her a gift of some ugly surgical stockings....................and suddenly...............they're trembling in each other's presence and overtaken by a tidal wave of lust.

Nah. I don't buy it.

99littleducks · 10/10/2016 11:45

Yes MitzyLeFrouf they barely speak a word to each other throughout the episode then suddenly Ross comes to his senses and seduces her with 18th century lingerie Hmm

Also the scene where he's persuading Pascoe about his plan to give £600 to Elizabeth. He's happy for his missus to struggle further because she's a miner's daughter but delicate Elizabeth must not suffer because she's been used to the high life?! This showed particularly poor judgement.

ballsdeep · 10/10/2016 11:54

I'm really struggling to like Ross this series. I think there's so much chemistry lacking between himself and demelza and the story with Elizabeth fries my brain!! Why is he being so stupid?!

MaQueen · 10/10/2016 12:37

I thought his accent was spot on?

Anyone else think he just (sometimes) lusts after Demelza, but his heart is Elizabeth's?

TeenyfTroon · 10/10/2016 12:45

I couldn't enjoy the stocking scene. Kept thinking, 'Ross, you've been hacking at the rock face - your rough hands will knacker those fine stockings'.

Rather spoilt it for me. Confused

MitzyLeFrouf · 10/10/2016 12:47

Does anyone else watch Poldark and mourn the passing of the tricorn? Ross wears it so well and it offsets his tumbling black curls a treat.

Snowgeese · 10/10/2016 13:01

The amount of times that poor horse thunders across the cliff top I am amazed he hasn't dug a rut so deep only his poor head is in view .

It is hard to feel sympathy for any of the characters really . Just too much detail to cram into ten episodes . The books are so rich in detail .
But Caroline is growing on me a tiny bit . Or maybe it's her pug dog. The scene with Uncle Ray at dinner you can see the dog watching intently and saying wtf are you on about ?Grin.
Best actor ? The pug .
Used I believe to hide the fact the actress is pregnant .

murphys · 11/10/2016 10:51

I have to keep hiding from this thread, as I can only download it a day after you have all seen it. My first downfall was that it didn't download correctly so I had to watch it on a tiny laptop screen, was eye squirming at that stocking scene.....

Caroline, and that voice, as someone said, just monotone, dear lord, one can hardly bear the thought of it.... Wink

Agree, Ross has turned into an arse, and Elizabeth should pass that hairbrush over to Demelza once in a while...

MitzyLeFrouf · 11/10/2016 11:02

Did they ever name their son? I'd completely forgotten Demelza had even had a baby until they showed him sitting at the table.

murphys · 11/10/2016 11:26

Yes Mitzy, I think that was the first time we saw him Shock briefly

Where does he go each and every day I wonder. Grin

ShelaghTurner · 11/10/2016 12:02

Probably goes upstairs to play his tapes with Tracey Barlow...

Yes, I am very very old! Grin

woodhill · 11/10/2016 17:15

Such a pity, just reading the first book and there is so much detail. Where is Elizabeth's father?

I know they cannot include all the characters. First series seemed better

2catsandadog · 11/10/2016 17:23

Poldark could be subtitled "galloping left, galloping right, waily waily." It's ALL they do. So dull.

Sunnymeg · 11/10/2016 17:23

The 1975 series emphasised the strength of Ross and Demelza's relationship, despite everything that goes wrong, there is a commitment to each other which they both feel strongly. There is very little of that, this time round.

sooperdooper · 11/10/2016 22:08

Ok so I'm still an episode behind but where's the baby gone? Demelza definitely was pregnant and had a baby and now it's not been seen or mentioned for a whole episode....?? So confused, did I imagine it? Am I on crack?
