One week to go. Anyone else can't wait?
I've just started to rewatch the first series. Not sure if I'll get to watch it all again before next Sunday though.

Me too. Demelza's looking worried.

squoosh · 02/10/2016 22:39

Was that the last episode in the current series?

Magicpaintbrush · 02/10/2016 22:40

Nooo! Francis was getting his life back together! What a horrible, lonely way to go. So sad. Sad

Is it just me or was this series about 6 episodes long?? Is that it for another year???? Confused

champersandgin · 03/10/2016 02:49

There are 10 episodes and that was episode 5. I've not read the books yet so feeling very shocked and sad. Poor Francis.

ShelaghTurner · 03/10/2016 03:09

Haven't seen it yet, take it Francis has gone for his swim Wink.

It's so chillingly well done in the book (sorry, I know I'm boring). It shows you Francis desperately trying to hold on and he's counting the time passing and the later it gets the more chance of sometime sending a search party. He calculates it's past 10pm. Then it goes back to Trenwith and it's heading for 6.30pm....

ooonatoffolo · 03/10/2016 09:45

nitty - I think Ross and Demelza's newborn was the toddler that Prudie scooped up in this episode?

99littleducks · 03/10/2016 10:03

Oh poor Francis, so desperate to make it up to Ross, he payed with his own life Sad

beguilingeyes · 03/10/2016 10:12

As a 70s Poldark fan I love Robin Ellis as much as the next won't, but do they have to shoehorn him into every episode? None of that magistrates bit was in the book.

HottySnanky · 03/10/2016 10:38

Was it me or was Caroline Penvenen wearing lipstick? Which she then snogged off onto Dr Enys?

HarrietOliver · 03/10/2016 11:50

What a great episode, although horribly sad.

Did anyone else notice the continuity error with Dwight Enys's horse? When he rode up to talk to Demelza he was riding a classy looking chestnut, but when he turned to ride away, he was on a much more heavily set roan. He then passed a messenger, who himself seemed to be mounted on the classy chestnut!

Magicpaintbrush · 03/10/2016 13:24

So if this is the first half series of a set of ten when will the next five be shown, as there was a 'to be continued' at the end of the last episode, so presumably there will be a gap?

Sunnymeg · 03/10/2016 14:10

I thought the 'to be continued' was used purely to heighten the drama. The whole of the Poldark story can be divided into the bits pre and post Francis's death. They have been showing trailers of the next episode, but I can understand for plot reasons why they may have chosen not to do so in the latest episode.

idrinkandiknowthings · 03/10/2016 23:03

Francis!!!! Oh, how I bawled...!!!!

MaQueen · 04/10/2016 10:30

Why couldn't Francis just pull himself up out of that hole? Or were the sides too slippery?

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/10/2016 10:33

No upper body strength. I suspect he had arms like pipe cleaners.

Whereas Ross could have hauled himself out using one little finger and a steely look of determination.

emotionsecho · 04/10/2016 10:37

MitzyGrin

I wondered about that dramatic 'To be continued...' but the continuity announcer did say it would be back at 9pm next Sunday.

But - Gentleman's Pipe Cleaner Arms which George can never buy Grin

Francis is a Dead Gentleman. George is alive, but - sigh - trade (shudder)

murphys · 04/10/2016 12:43

Oh my gosh, I am up to the latest episode now (its not screening here in SA until later in the month). What a sad sad episode. I was getting so fond of Francis.

Now... what we all want to know.... are Ross and Elizabeth going to follow through with all the flirting that took place in previous episodes. I really hope not, poor Demelza - her face at the end when Ross and Elizabeth were hugging.

And George.... he is going to make a beeline for Elizabeth now, maybe that will go in Ross's favour?

Argh, please don't let there be a production break, this waiting a whole week is killing me. I know, I know I need to get a life... Grin

emotionsecho · 04/10/2016 13:04

The liking of Francis before his untimely demise is exactly how you are all supposed to feelGrin.

Those of us who know the books and/or have the original series imprinted on our brains could answer all those questions for you murphysGrin but we won't because we are not nasty spoilering types!

ShelaghTurner · 04/10/2016 13:15

Keep forgetting to watch Sunday's #badfan

It's so hard keeping your gob shut when you know it all so well isn't it? Sometimes I could explode with the knowledge! Grin

murphys · 04/10/2016 15:40

Although I want to know, I don't really want to know Grin. So not asking for spoilers... just venting about my impatience Wink

Its a bit like AGT which is on our telly at the moment. I [accidently] found out who won, now I don't even bother watching the rest of the show.

I think I will read the book, but I will wait until the series ends. Books are usually better as they have much more detail.

beguilingeyes · 04/10/2016 17:14

In this case the books are soooo much better.
