Maybe there are usually as much restarting MiddleClass, but it's edited out?

FoxesOnSocks · 25/08/2016 07:18

Oh that's good. It's possibly with the restarting and editing, or maybe it was the particular cake being so tricky.

I was disappointed with the Irish bake off not because of restarts or what not just that there wasn't any wow - struck me as bakes you'd see at a bake sale like my amazing offerings I think Ireland has simply run out of talent bakers who are willing to appear on tv. We don't want that to happen in Britain!!!!

StiginaGrump · 25/08/2016 07:20

I thought they were a very agreeable bunch, not getting why people didn't like Candice I even liked the lippy. Not surprised to hear Andrew is lovely, I would have eaten his cake with a giant spoon.

MiddleClassProblem · 25/08/2016 07:22

I did think that but then why would they put it in unless it was to justify Benjamina's comment about lots of people starting again so feeling better about doing it herself. But having said that in previous series you often have other contestants commenting on "oh so and so is starting again" offering support etc. Maybe that's later on though.

MiddleClassProblem · 25/08/2016 07:25

I think the lippy might stay as it's in the promo pics too so prob just what she likes to wear. I don't mind her either, she has a bit of bants and seems supportive of the others. I'm a little annoyed I don't have one that I love to hate!

StiginaGrump · 25/08/2016 07:29

Me too I like one I don't like;)

Footle · 25/08/2016 07:42

Selasi should have acknowledged that putting the cinnamon in the drizzle wasn't his own idea.
I thought the kids chucking flour looked embarrassed - were they told to do it for the camera ?

Dolly80 · 25/08/2016 07:53

I thought it was unusual that so many started again but as others have said this may be to do with how the show is edited.

There's no one I really don't like either, just a few I'm a bit unsure of (if the lady keeps dancing/listening to cakes I'll be irritated but for one episode I didn't mind)

Apologies for muddling up their nicknames too...I might be better to wait until there's less of them before I start using their names/nicknames Grin

SoupDragon · 25/08/2016 09:23

We don't know that he didn't. I think it was all very carefully edited to make him look like a "baddie" for not saying anything.

SarahJayneD · 25/08/2016 09:29

I was not a fan of Candice's lippy either!!

SoupDragon · 25/08/2016 09:30

Pound to a penny that Kate is at the wind up...

Perhaps she is a smutty MNer

About the blue icing, I remember years and years ago (possibly on That's Life) they did a piece where they made blue biscuits and everyone hated them, even though they were the same as the normal ones. I think they said there are no naturally blue foods (proper blue, not purplish)

Donatellalymanmoss · 25/08/2016 09:37

I think the restarts may have had something to do with a difficult cake type and bakers being new to their ovens.

I liked Selasi. The laid back thing is preferable to running round like a headless chicken. I'm vaguely annoyed by kirsch guy, green tea cake (tea is for drinking with cake not putting in cake) and aerobics granny, but everyone else seems nice enough.

Looking forward to next week.

ElspethFlashman · 25/08/2016 09:52

I actually think the promo pics were taken that weekend as the Hairdresser lady was wearing the same shirt. Candice looked much nicer in her bit at school with normal coloured lips so fingers crossed. What possessed her to pull out the matte vamp lippy in Week 1 I'll never know.

I thought she was quite funny though definitely a bit highly strung and hard on herself.

The one that won looked like she had hayfever as she was on the verge of tears so much. And then Benjamina.

And over there was Selasi, just pottering about, lol. So far I've decided I don't mind cos he's so cute to look at. not shallow at all

The Jaffa cake challenge almost sent my DH over the edge. They're his favourite thing in the whole world. He was practically misty eyed, just little mews of pleasure emanating from his corner. Hilarious.

FoxesOnSocks · 25/08/2016 09:53

The lay back thing will probably help no end even if it's try hard laid back Grin

ElspethFlashman · 25/08/2016 09:55

Posh Kate is definitely a dark horse. We've seen those types before - the perfect young mum from A Lovely Village. They always make the final.

Mind you, the UK one is all about Kitchen Aid.

And it worked! 5 mins in and I was mentally putting those purple mixers on my fantasy shopping list.

MiddleClassProblem · 25/08/2016 10:13

I think they are trying too hard with a lot of these

Last night's Bake Off innuendos

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 25/08/2016 10:17

yeah me too. Lots of those were perfectly normal things to say in the situation.

I think it's only really Mel and Sue than can do the innuendo - making fun of the perfectly normal things that the others need to say in that situation, and it doesn't work when the contestants try to feed them lines.

I hope the flour chucking in the kitchen was just done for camera; it all seemed a little too much of a performance with the children for my taste.

Pendu · 25/08/2016 10:18

I was watching it for Rav (I don't normally watch TV) but he didn't even do eggless in the end Sad. They didn't feature him much either....

Favs are selasi, Rav and DH just adores the aerobic lady Grin

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 25/08/2016 10:20

I liked Benjamina....so sad as she was practically weeping into her icing as it wasn't whipping up

also Jane...and YY to previous poster who said Hayley from Corrie...I was thinking Victoria Wood and someone....and that's her!

Selasi...loved the way he was so cool, and also seemed not to be bothered about using ALL the equipment...one of his cakes was in a large bowl over the pan and the hand whisk...most of them seem to go completely mixer mad when they are one there.

and Andrew (ron weasley-a-like)

I only have three other names off, and they are on my "NO!" list.
Kate ...one one likes blue cake love, truly. AND shut up about the farm.
Val....just no
Candice...what was she thinking with all the makeup, the lippy was ridiculous, and I cannot believe that Hollywood failed to comment on her ultra over done cake, with trimmings, and chocolates and, and, and, and....AND served on a mirror when he had pointedly said "less is more with a mirror glaze"

I shall be making Jaffa Cakes at the weekend!

squoosh · 25/08/2016 10:21

I thought Val's blackberry and raspberry decorated mirror cake looked luscious.

She needs to stop the wacky dancing though.

dailymaillazyjournos · 25/08/2016 10:45

I'm a shit baker but even to.me it was so obvious that the ring of jelly went on the biggest side if the cake in the Jaffa challenge. I just couldn't understand why they were needing to debate it. Also am i the only one who had never come across the term 'mirror icing'. I just thought it was shiny icing .

FoxesOnSocks · 25/08/2016 11:05

I'd say that the which side debate was set of my nerves causing doubt. They knew full well really (even non bakers could guess - I don't really like Jaffa cakes and I know) but that seed of doubt popped in and the nerves made them doubt themselves.

Don't mind the make up or the dancing - I do confess though I try extra hard no to critises women on these things for their looks/action as I feel they get an already unfair volume compared to the men would #supportmysister 🙂

I'm all for criticism of baking though!! Not sure she's going to last long - I'd say she's great at old style basking when she had the time, but this is too fiddle and time pressured.

Regarding the Irish bake off (last time I'm going to mention it)I really don't like the fact there's just too challanges!! And yes it's like a odours ad, or like watching that woman on the morning rte show

millionsofpeaches · 25/08/2016 11:42

Delurking to announce that my DM has just told me she also listens to cakes to see if they are done a la Val/aerobics granny. She just said it like it was totally normal and not in the slightest bit out of the ordinary.

But at least DM doesn't do aerobics whilst cooking, although she has been known to hula hoop, and she makes the best gluten free lemon drizzle cake in the entire universe. (And also, no gluten free is obviously not a "healthy twist" Hmm Candice, it's a dietary necessity)
