Let's hope this series will be better then last one

Obviously you will save money if not buying the most exspensive items every week /spending £200/300

How about helping a family who spend £50/60 and need to cut it down even more

Tho do love the taste challenge esp when they say something is disgusting - and it's their usual posh brand 😂😂😂

Muesli bars are that unhealthy?

dillite · 27/07/2016 20:37

That looks rank. But I only like chickpeas in hummus.

seasidesally · 27/07/2016 20:39

How does a family of three eat a whole cake a day?!

i think there are 2 older children

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2016 20:39

Ah, I missed that. But still, that's a massive amount of cake.

flightywoman · 27/07/2016 20:41

Purple there are 2 other older children. But still, that's a lot of cake for one family.

IMHO, it stops being a treat when it's there all the time.

flightywoman · 27/07/2016 20:42

I love this man ally g his eggs "she"!

paulapantsdown · 27/07/2016 20:43

No one in my house would be happy with a plate of cous course with a few chickpeas and yogurt for dinner! Or a massive sweet potato and a bit of cream cheese! My DH would be happy to eat it, but he'd want a pork chop on the side aswell.

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2016 20:44

We have baked sweet potatoes a lot but with chilli and salad.

dillite · 27/07/2016 20:47

Surely the chicken alone would cost more than £1.30 for each person?

dillite · 27/07/2016 20:52

That's how I laugh when I get going...

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2016 20:53

They're really nice this week.

ellenanora5 · 27/07/2016 20:55

I love omelettes, frittata and Spanish omelette (though they might be the same thing) the only thing I can't do is put garlic and eggs together, I don't know why but I just can't.

dillite · 27/07/2016 20:56

But it's still 10k a year on food.

Raahh · 27/07/2016 20:58

dillite- I suppose they need to start somewhere- I suspect she will now get as obsessive over saving money, as she did about baking. Which is not a bad thing.

Raahh · 27/07/2016 20:59

They can save a fortune by pretending their older children don't existGrin

ellenanora5 · 27/07/2016 21:11

I knew the savings would be huge, they are a lovely family and when she started laughing so did I Grin

It is still a lot dillite but I reckon she'll cut it down further.

Raahh Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2016 22:18

Just watched

I said the same about the chicken tikka Marsala. Would cost more the £1.30 for the chicken

Amazing saving but they did spend insane amounts each week

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 27/07/2016 22:21

That was a brilliant episode.

Allofaflumble · 27/07/2016 23:14

The daughter was really sweet.

Butteredparsnips · 27/07/2016 23:17

Enjoyed it tonight, but I was wanting to point her in the direction of B&M or home bargains. heinz beans, Yorkshire tea etc are usually cheaper than the supermarkets.

memyselfandaye · 28/07/2016 00:18

I felt incredibly sorry for the Mum when she talked about her childhood. Having to eat sugar sandwiches and drink the vinegar left in the pickled onion jar because that's all there was to eat.

She then made a comment about wanting to give her kids the things she did'nt have and to be the sort of Mum that was around for her kids, so I would guess her own Mum either died or was neglectful.

I can understand why she had to have a full fridge and cupboards, there's clearly a deep rooted fear that her kids could ever be that hungry like she was.

Nice to see that she now has an obviously comfortable life, lovely home and family etc.

AvaCrowder · 28/07/2016 00:29

I felt the same, that mum had suffered as a child and would over indulge her children, to compensate like.

The series is terribly sexist, this one I felt less so. They could afford the bloody food but as a nurturer it could have been better. This family didn't need to save money, it just could have been better nutrition for less money. This show is all about this

absolutelynotfabulous · 28/07/2016 11:44

I can't stop shouting at the telly. This family really boiled my pee. The amount spent on food was obscene, as was the waste.

And please, not ANOTHER person who can't make a basic tomato sauce.

curlywurlylover · 28/07/2016 16:06

Watching this catch up on demand. Watches 3 of these now

Seems to always be 3 men having a go at a woman (who also usually works) & berating her to spend more time in kitchen while male partner does nothing.

Seems very sexist. All the men saying 'family' but it's the woman who needs to do lots of extra effort not the dad.

Also the 2 male presenters. Easy to sneer at women in Tesco buying too much. Do they do the supermarket shop and cook 7 days a week for a variety of kids and a wife? Doubt it.

Madbengalmum · 28/07/2016 16:11

It shocked me how she thought she was doing something amazing by frying an onion and pouring in some ready made passata.

Oh my life!
