I haven't seem any of the recent bullying - But DH and I had heated debate over the Jackiey's eviciton outburst - He thought I was overreacting. It was very very clear to me that she was using the phrase "The Indian" in a derogatory way - the point is she herself believed it to be an insult. Davina in fairness did I think try to stop her but couldn't really get a word in and I guess explaining the issue on live TV could have been problematic. Jackiey's refusal to learn how to pronounce Shilpa's name, a name no harder to pronounce than her own, I also saw as racist. It was clear Jackiey saw the name as "foreign" and therefore unnecessarily complicated thus showing a severe disrespect for other cultures.

Personally, I do think that Ch4 have a responsibilty to address these issues in follow up programmes. Letting this sort of casual racism go unadressed can only serve to legitimise the behaviour.

Being mixed race (or black, or any creed or colour) doesn't stop someone from having racist attitudes.
I agree they are bullying first, but they are focusing on her race and culture as a means to put her down (in their tiny minds) and that in my book is racism.

oh and i forgot my absolute favourite from last night...

picking up something from the carpet, saying it's genital thrush scabs, jade says 'pick it and flick it' and danielle says 'throw it in shilpa's curry'.

it's so natural to them that they've forgotten it's being broadcast. but why would this bother them, of course, as none of them are racist...
