Read Germaine Greer's take on it all, from today's Guardian.

Caligula · 18/01/2007 00:08

Was Jade drunk when she made the oxo cube attack?

There will be some people (stupid ones) who will believe that she has a point and is in the right, because the fact that Shilpa was wrong about the oxo cube justifies Jade's utter lack of normal adult self-control. Shilpa's face was glorious - total and complete shock and incredulity that someone can carry on with that complete lack of self-mastery. Blissful.

But this is quite normal behaviour for many people. You see it all the time with road rage, supermarket trolley rage, etc.

expatinscotland · 18/01/2007 00:09

No, Caligula, she was sober.

Can you imagine what she'd have been like drunk?

In ten years, you're going to see her on 'Street Crime UK'.

Being arrested.

AitchTwoOh · 18/01/2007 00:16

puffling... I'm a fan of Germaine Greer but she's talking rot in that piece. what about reading hari kunzru's piece, it makes more sense?

i wrote earlier...

true, but la greer was well off the mark for much of that article though. shilpa's an actress so she's fair game? everyone knows what they're getting into on BB?
didn't greer go on and leave because she felt that Brigitte Nielsen (an actress) was bineg bullied by BB with jackie stallone? and she deffo said when she came out that she hadn't realised what she was letting herself in for. that's from someone who lives here... not in india.
[sigh] i did love germaine greer once...

dotcotton · 18/01/2007 00:23

Oh i thought this thread was about Angel Delight now..

Jo and Danielle are on the live feed a minute ago talking about how hard it must have been for Shilps to come from a different culture blah blah, hmm do you think perhaps they are attempting to backtrack? Yeah that'll work, its' not like anyone's going to remember what they said yesterday {hmm}. Oh dear, they are gong to be a teeny bit surprised when they come out.

Germaine Greer surely was just trying to be controversial today?

AitchTwoOh · 18/01/2007 00:26

BB has had a word, most likely. it's all part of the campaign to turn this racist ship around... jade to go, shilpa will stay, new people will come in and suck up to shilpa... all will be rosy.

dotcotton · 18/01/2007 00:33

Jade will go to India and shout down the baying crowds, "I ain't racist, i just dont like er, and she DIDNT ONLY ORDER OXO CUBES". And WW4 will be averted, so she will be the no. 1 inferential person in the world.

Caligula · 18/01/2007 00:34

God I've got this horrid vision of lots of Jades marching in step and I keep humming to myself "tomorrow belongs to Jade..."

AitchTwoOh · 18/01/2007 00:58

i think you'll find that's spelled inferlential...

Kif · 18/01/2007 01:32

I think that this is the end of the cult of ignorance. A great - belated - demonstration why thinking that 'east angular' is abroad is not charming.

it's horrible for shilpa, but i think that c4 should let it run its course, and then compile it into a video to be shown in schools showing what techniques bullies use, and how to react in a dignified way. she has been very classy.

the thing that gets my goat is the apologists. as though if we can grab onto some straw of what shilpas done to bring this on, then it's not bullying but an exchange of views. psychological tricks to make you doubt yourself is classic bullying. trying to talk it away is just cowardly. ref: Russell 'lets not go to their level by calling people names' Brand.

also trying to spilt hairs racism vs bullying is pointless in a situation where there is only one indian person.

Piffle · 18/01/2007 08:30

Jade is ugly and not (just) in a physical way
Her language, her viciousness, her anger over such a minor occurence
And the HYPOCRISY over LYING.
The lass who had lipo to get in shape her her fitness DVD...
FFS
Man is that look on her face when she gets barrelled out on friday going to be PRICELESS
Sky reports it is her vs Shilpa
And she will finally realise that shooting your gob off is fine in your own house but on national telly, it has consequences.
I fear for her safety actually.
And it's true ignorance is no argument for that kind of outburst.

aDad · 18/01/2007 08:36

apparently it's 21,000 complaints now, and i guess going up all the time.

lizziemun · 18/01/2007 09:05

I don't understand why bb haven't thrown or even spoken to Jade about her behaviour, they have on previous show's.

The arguement was about Shilpa sayiny "oxo was the only thing she ordered" instead of "one of the things she ordered" as english is not her 1st language she is bound the get the odd thing wrong. Where as it is the only language Jade speaks she still get's it wrong.

I have to say shilpa did a great job of shutting her up by saying "Your are famous for this be happy".

ItsMeMellowma · 18/01/2007 09:05

The look on Danielles face last when bb said:

Danielle, after Jade and Shipla were arguing you said : "I wish she would just Fuck Off Home"!!

You could see her squirming in the seat, you could almost see her thinking "Oh Shit"

Classic!!

I dislike her very much, she still reminds me of the girl who used to throw me round the playground by my hair!!

Imafairy · 18/01/2007 09:12

What really got me last night was that after Shilpa asked Jo to help her out, and Jo explained that Shilpa had said that she only ordered the Oxo cubes (I wonder how happy Oxo are about this free advertising!!! )and Shilpa said, "oh, I meant it was one of the things I ordered", and then Jade went off on one again saying "you're a liar" and Jo could so easily have stepped in and put a stop to it but she chose not to.

I used to like Jo, and Jade, but my God, they are vile vile creatures. I am hoping that Danielle is just naive and stupid and doesn't realise what she is doing, although I somehow doubt it.

kimi · 18/01/2007 09:33

Matthew Wright are debating it now, Blaming it on lack of education.

Thunderpants · 18/01/2007 09:36

Loved that comment that we should stop championing stupid people on TV. that's it in a nutshell.

lucy5 · 18/01/2007 09:37

It's made the headlines here in Spain.

JustHumphrey · 18/01/2007 09:39

I just hope Jade's children never get to see the way their mother has behaved on national television.
She is a disgrace and an embarrassment.
As are her other two followers.

JustHumphrey · 18/01/2007 09:40

And would it kill Cleo to express an opinion?

Cloudhopper · 18/01/2007 09:40

How can you educate people like that? Would you want to be a teacher in front of a class of Jades?

I think it is the attitude of people like her at fault. You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

deaconblue · 18/01/2007 09:41

Trouble with this lack of education argument is it becomes something else to blame schools and teachers for. IME as a teacher byt he time they arrive at the age of 11 it's really hard to cahnge the bigotted views their parents have instilled in them. I used to spend/waste hours debating racism, homophobia etc and doubt I changed any young minds because of the crap they hear at home.

Monkeytrousers · 18/01/2007 09:46

"Germaine Greer surely was just trying to be controversial today?"

That's her job, she's a professional polemicist. I love her (most of the time)

Caligula · 18/01/2007 09:50

Hmm. It is lack of education though isn't it?

Which isn't blaming schools and teachers, it's blaming a society which doesn't offer any benefit of education to people like Jade.

Actually, Jade is a great advertisement for not learning to read or engage with the wider world at all. Why bother, when some credulous people are going to give you £8 million for shooting yer marf off in the BB house.

stleger · 18/01/2007 09:51

I wish some C4 'people' - john Snow, Kirsty Location, Richard and Judy - would give an opinion. Is shilpa getting private help through - I hope so.
