Gosh I love this thread.

Right I'm nearly finishing "Faith" then back to Scotland. But think I'll have a bit more Voyager after that.

I do know a v v hunky strapping, rugby playing Scot...wears his kilt beautifully and is fiendish at Ceileighs (sp?) I've been spun a few times by him and my feet left the floor. He's married to my friend.

Have noticed as well as the crackling fire sound effect, there's a lot of clock ticking in S2. And boy am I enjoying Jamie in his over the knee boots in ParisSmile

Drywhitethanks · 17/07/2016 20:15

And never noticed but Murtagh is as tall as SE.... Am loving him a lot too

Drywhitethanks · 17/07/2016 20:32

And knee watch ep8 S2 first 6min excellent knees Grin

Drywhitethanks · 17/07/2016 20:33

thought I'd sneak in an extra episode before reading

JacquettaWoodville · 17/07/2016 20:45

I am very far behind you all on DVD but up to date on books so just marking a place...

bringonthetrumpets · 18/07/2016 01:35

I think I'm going to go turn on S1 from the beginning against whilst folding laundry this evening. Young Jamie Grin

Ha, so a lot of falling off of horses experience then, Hudyer?

I love, love, love Murtagh from Season 2 and the actor's interpretation of him. It's exactly what I had in my mind when I read the books on how he'd look and his mannerisms so I'm glad that at least that character is what I've imagined.

bringonthetrumpets · 18/07/2016 01:35

against? Hmm AGAIN. Jeesh. From the beginning again. Damn phone!

bringonthetrumpets · 18/07/2016 01:37

JacquettaWoodville- I take it you're a "White Queen" fan? Wink. Welcome!

JacquettaWoodville · 18/07/2016 07:21

Thanks!

Lessstressedhemum · 18/07/2016 09:00

Oh god, the over the knee boots, swoon, and the kilt with kinky boots, sooooomuch better than kilt brogues and stockings that you have in formal wear!
I don't ride at all, so know nothing of dismounting, I just like to look at Sam's kneesBlush do you think the weight of the plaid would hold the kilt in place, hud?
It's true that's it's most often the ones that you don't want to see in a kilt that wear it, but a nice bit of Highland regalia makes even an unbraw lad glorious, imagine what it does to one who is already bonnie.

AKAmyself · 18/07/2016 19:47

So, lassies, I come back from a few days absence (fecking work) and find you all simultaneously disparaging some nutters ever so slightly obsessed fans on another forum, while discussing jamie's horse-dismounting technique for three pages.

Pot, kettle, anyone?

:D

On a serious note, I'm upset i didn't spot that. Must rewatch immediately.

I legit snorted at Hip calling herself lady Broch Tuarach. I think you should name change!

TheHiphopopotamus · 18/07/2016 20:07

Welcome back aka!

Have to say, I'd never noticed how Jamie gets off the horse either, but it's given me (yet another) reason to watch it all from the beginning Grin

On another note, there's been quite a bit of grumbling on the Outlander Starz page about the casting of Bree (and probably elsewhere). She's getting a bit of a pasting but I think Sophie Skelton has one of the most difficult jobs on the show. Bree is such a fundamentallly unlikeable character. I rewatched the last ep and she's a know it all, arrogant little gobshite, that didn't improve on a second viewing at all. SS has Brianna down to a tee.

snozzlemaid · 18/07/2016 20:58

Oh god AKA, your're right we are just as mad obsessed as those other fans.
I don't even know how i noticed his strange dismount. I just suddenly thought 'that looked odd'. And then realised why.
I'm still enjoying TFC. And I've realised that I love J&C so much that I actually don't care what the storyline is. I just crave each interaction between them and love reading about every conversation, touch and look they have.
I think I would happily read about them doing anything as long as they're together.

Drywhitethanks · 18/07/2016 21:39

Hear hear Snozzle

Aka welcome back. I have to say I'm mortally offended that you compare us to the nutters. Honestly this is an intellectual appreciation thread where we discuss the complexities and intricacies of plot and sub plot, the development of characters and the historical accuracies of Outlander ...........and Jamie's knees, hair, boits, spoons and potatoes etc Grin

On the subject of dismounting, I'm now watching avidly to see how he gets on his horse.....I'm sure he does this the traditional way, wouldn't he have the same modesty problem?

I have to say perhaps the SS bashers need to give her a chance.....DG didn't really create a likeable character in the books I haven't got to her arriving in 18c scotland yet but they seem to have done a good job making Claire less annoying in the show, so I'm sure Bree will be ok.

Reading V, I'm thinking how much DG let reign her own sexual fantasies.....there's some weird stuff that I'd be embarrassed to make public if I were her.

And, I'm also wondering why Claire never wears a dress in Fraser tartan.....that would have been nice.

AND.......Mutragh is actually shorter that Jamie in the show, but Dougal is taller and Lord Lovatt/Blackfish......bloody huge cast apart from Jenny who is little

That's my contribution for the evening Grin

Drywhitethanks · 18/07/2016 21:41

Oops , me again.......anyone else feel a bit sad that we won't see little Fergus again? Sad wonder who will play grown up Fergus, hope he's good, needs to be gorgeous not Stanley Webber again

Drywhitethanks · 18/07/2016 21:51

My vote for grown up Fergus goes to Gaspard Ulliel parfait!

TheHiphopopotamus · 18/07/2016 22:12

Personally, I'm looking forward to the casting of Young Ian. After Jamie and Roger, he's my favourite. Hope they don't screw his casting up.

As for Bree, Sophie Skelton is doing a grand job. She's exactly as I imagined her. Tbh, in the scene where she and Roger were having a picnic by the lake, she was slightly less annoying than the rest of her time on screen (and to be clear, none of this is SS fault. It's more the source material).

bringonthetrumpets · 19/07/2016 01:34

Went back and watched ep 1 from season 1. I have to say that my favourite part of all time from all the episodes is right after Claire tips off the Highlanders of the ambush and she is running through the woods to try to escape then Jamie finds her and Oh. My. God. does he look HOT in that scene! (shameless fan-girl over here). And yes, he does swing a leg around the front of the saddle and hops down that way. Dry in the first ep he definitely got on the horse the normal way.

Ha! I guess there isn't really much of a difference in the end of the day since we're all clearly obsessed, is there?

I'm so glad you're liking TFC Snozz There are definitely some good parts, and quite a few hard parts too. I agree. I do really love J & C's old married couple interactions. Very romantic.

I agree with both of you Hipp and Dry. Bre's character in general is hard to like in the books so naturally we're not really going to like an actress who has to act like her, right? I felt like she looked the way I'd imagined- mostly. But the scene when they are in the library at the Reverend's house and they were fighting, was just kinda "meh" acting. Didn't feel real. Claire was believable but Bre just felt forced anger and shouting. Was that just me that noticed that?

Drywhitethanks · 19/07/2016 08:12

TBH I was relieved to see SS ....I was expecting a ginger Brienne of Tarth by the description in the book Grin

AKAmyself · 19/07/2016 08:31

Drywhite thats hilarious - I totally was thinking Brienne of Tarth! In fact throughout the books I was thinking how unattractive Brianna sounds.

You lot are very compassionate, I have to say. Personally my issue with SS is she can't act for shit, and that is an issue in front of such strong actors especially CB. All I was thinking is I'm glad she never gets to meet Dougall as Graham McTavish would literally swallow her whole.

She's supposed to be slightly scary and fecking annoying in the books.

I'm looking forward to Lord John and to Young Ian so much! Love these characters. I also hope the show runners make Adult Fergus a more sympathetic character, DG doesn't really like him much, does she. He's supposed to be a son to Jamie and he treats him like shit.

I don't even know what book I'm reading. I'm with Snozzle though, I could read a whole book of J & C watching paint dry.

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/07/2016 08:57

Grin I love Brienne, character and the actress who plays her. If Brianna was anything like that, I'd have been quite happy!

I think the problem with Bree is that we're always being told how fabulous she is without any evidence to back it up. Claire and Jamie just smile indulgently while Bree acts like a complete arse.

I wonder how she would have turned out if Jamie had brought her up rather than Frank. I think the blame rests solely on Frank's shoulders Grin

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 19/07/2016 08:57

although adult Fergus is a shit to Marsali, beating her up and abandoning her pregnant with three(?) DC.

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/07/2016 08:59

DG doesn't really like him much, does she

She doesn't like any of her characters. That's why they're always getting raped and beaten up Hmm

Lessstressedhemum · 19/07/2016 09:10

I imagined Brianna as a kind of Brienne as well. Have to say that she is one of my favourite characters from Ice and Fire. The lass on GoT captures her really well, although I've only seen a couple of series of it. I just think that Sophie Skelton doesn't have the physical presence needed and she's shorter than Claire, never mind Roger! I've never seen her in anything else, cso have to reserve judgement on her acting ability but Sam and Catrina are incredible actors, so she's bound to look a bit guff in comparison especially in the early days.
Agree about Fergus, his mental health and insecurities lead him to treat everyone really badly. He improves when he leaves the Ridge and isn't "humiliated" by not being physically able to provide for his family. It hurts his male pride and honour! That bloke is lovely, Dry.

AKAmyself · 19/07/2016 09:20

Not to mention the ever so slightly dodgy issue of 30 year old Fergus abducting 15 year old Marsali.... Dg is really lazy with that character. He keeps being depicted as a shifty Frenchman who knows everything there is to life from being born in a brothel... He was 10 when Jamie took him, ffs - surely in the intervening 25 years he must have had other formative experiences?!? Also her French is SHIT, could she not have it checked!!?

I think DG likes certain characters, mostly male (Jamie; roger; young Ian) and depicts them wonderfully, and hates others (brianna) and can't be arsed to make them real.
