OooooOooo. I think I may pick that one up then. Thanks Less!

I so wish I could knit fingerless gloves, Hip, ahem, Lady Broch Tuarach. Scarves and hats are about as technical as I get in that department. I've managed 1 sock out of a pair if that counts? Grin

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/07/2016 21:57

Grin Maybe cut the toe bit off the socks and you're good to go with a pair of 'handcrafted' gloves?

I'm starting to feel a bit bereft now. No new episode tomorrow, what am I going to do?! Sad

Lessstressedhemum · 16/07/2016 22:07

Beware though, bring, the books are HUGE. They have DG's penchant for detail and for making a day last about a month. I have a huge crush on Matt, because he is a bit of a bad boy. Bearing in mind I was much younger when I started reading them.

Drywhitethanks · 16/07/2016 22:26

Hiphop watch it all again/read books slower.... I'm coping fine Grin

Drywhitethanks · 16/07/2016 22:27

And I'm up to 6 " Mark mes"so far Grin

Drywhitethanks · 16/07/2016 22:28

And much as I love CB/ Claire I think Jamie/SH is awesome. Adore Jamie infact.....such a lovely man.

Drywhitethanks · 16/07/2016 22:29

And another thing.... Watching S2 faster , there isn't the sex of S1 but there is a lot of affection

Lessstressedhemum · 16/07/2016 22:33

I'm rereading as well. Agree about Sam, he is perfect as Jamie. Also the affection in series2. It's a very tender relationship and Jamie almost always knows what to say and do. Why can't real men be more like him?

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/07/2016 22:37

That may be the answer dry I really want to start from the beginning but I haven't the patience to sit through the more dull episodes such as the one where Claire goes singing round Scotland in drag. But I would feel like I was cheating or something if I didn't watch them all.

I might re read the books and give you all my chapter by chapter, word by word detailed analysis*

*Or not Grin

tabulahrasa · 16/07/2016 23:04

"I think he swings his leg forward to dismount to flash his legs because Jamie is supposed to be an impossibly accomplish!dishes horseman."

I think it might be to stop him flashing other bits TBH, I suspect leaning forward and flinging your leg in the air behind isn't particularly modest in a kilt...

Lessstressedhemum · 16/07/2016 23:13

You may be right! I expect they would rather he flashed his thigh than gave us all confirmation that he's a true Scotsman.

bringonthetrumpets · 17/07/2016 03:57

Less- I devour books, especially if they catch my attention and I love series that have already been around so I don't have to wait around for the next one to be written. So excited to have found another one to dig into.

Tabula-I was thinking the same thing about dismounting! Trying to keep the kilt modest in the front? Who knows?

hudyerwheesht · 17/07/2016 08:20

I still think you would dismount properly even in a kilt, it's not safe to do it by swinging your leg forward; if you get halfway through that and the horse decides to start moving you're going to get dumped in the mud as your arse slides off the saddle. You lean forward as you do it, thus covering crotch area with kilt material and it's more than long enough at the back to cover the backside.
I can't believe how much thought I'm giving this.

Lessstressedhemum · 17/07/2016 08:49

Speaking of WoT, it's got my other great fictional love in it. al'Lan Mandragoran. Oh God, I couldn't choose between him and Jamie. He's big, beautiful, brave, bold, loyal, fierce, an unrivalled warrior, but gentle, loving and fiercely protective of those he loves and I've always imagined him as a highlander. He comes from the mountains, his people are wiped out or scattered and he is a king in exile! I have been in love with both of them for over 20 years.
The good news is the Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah take more than one Warder, so I could bond them both and then probably never be able to walk properly againBlush

Lessstressedhemum · 17/07/2016 08:51

his, Jamie's horse would never throw him, he has them all hypnotised by his manly prowess, even the dreaded Gideon.

Lessstressedhemum · 17/07/2016 08:52

Stupid autocorrect, that should say hud. I need to check before pressing post!

tabulahrasa · 17/07/2016 08:54

I think in RL you'd dismount normally.

But you'd not fall off if you went forwards and they moved, well I never did doing round the world and I wasn't that good a rider, lol.

It's not the leaning forwards it's the leg going over the horse that might cause the kilt to go up, kilts are quite heavy material and they do swing when you move.

snozzlemaid · 17/07/2016 09:25

Ha ha.
Love how I've got you all obsessed with the dismount thing. I have considered tweeting Sam to ask, but think it would probably get lost in the million tweets he must get.
I think whichever way you swing your leg when wearing a kilt you're in danger of exposing yourself.

tabulahrasa · 17/07/2016 09:31

Aye, but forwards you can see/stop it.

It's a weird way to dismount, there must be a reason for it...of course it could be something as boring as just making sure he's facing the right way when he lands, lol

Drywhitethanks · 17/07/2016 09:50

Hudyer I think we are all obsessed with the dismounting, hair.....really do need to think about it a lot.

Also I'm no horsewoman don't you risk kicking the horse in the head by swinging your leg forward?

Ooooh Snozzle tweet Samand let us know!

Hiphop I've watched every bit but just couldn't bare the Clsire in drag, had to ff those.

Fiderer · 17/07/2016 10:01

The dismount was more likely: "Looks good, knees kilt what more do we need, cut wrap great everyone thanks pub now am bloody frozen"

Surely? Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 17/07/2016 12:58

Kilts swing a lot. As a veteran of many ceilidhs, I have to report that not all men in kilts are true Scotsman. The ones that are, however, are a sight to behold stripping the willow. Oh, how I love a man in a kilt.

bringonthetrumpets · 17/07/2016 16:32

Lol I am seriously giggling at all the comments on knee porn and kilt swinging. We have an Irish Faire here where it's usually the ones you don't want to see in a kilt that are the ones wearing them Hmm Otherise I've never seen a strapping Highlander before...

Ok now super excited to read WOT!

Aye. Jamie is the ultimate horse-whisperer.

hudyerwheesht · 17/07/2016 19:57

That's true, all Jamie's horses were under his spell, especially once he started to murmur soothing Gaelic words (as were we, obviously).

And you can fall off quite easily if your horse moves, I speak from experience. I used to occasionally try it when I was feeling lazy and my horse would always start walking the second my leg swung forward, leaving me sort of skidding off. Thing is, when you dismount properly you are holding on to the saddle and reins so it doesn't matter if they move.

I also still think that while it would probably carry a risk of buttock exposure with a modern day kilt, the ton of thick kilt material at the back of an 18th century one would prevent any such discretion, however, maybe they would have done it that way back then as it is quicker and easier (opportunistic horses aside).

I love that in the absence of an actual episode to discuss we are debating this instead. I will think of this thread when I re-watch and see any forward dismounting. Grin

hudyerwheesht · 17/07/2016 20:03

Oh, forgot to say, you can kick your horse in the neck, as drywhite asked, though that will probably just make you lose your balance as you swing your leg over, rather than hurt the horse. Especially risky if your horse has stopped and put their head down to eat grass then decides to raise it again just as you swing forward your leg. Again, I speak from experience.
