Clearly that should say accomplished, don't know what happened there.

Drywhitethanks · 14/07/2016 10:23

Writing on phone without glasses so hope it makes sense .
I hope that the writers/producers are astute enough (and I'm sure they are) to realise that the viewers love jamie as much as Claire. I think the episode told from his point of view in S1 was so good that I'm hoping they will do the same in S3.the Jamie stuff in Voyager, before the reunion, for me was the best bit so far

snozzlemaid · 14/07/2016 16:02

From what I've read on twitter, season 3 will include a lot of what happens in the 20 years they're apart.
I agree with you all in that I can't wait to see Jamie's story but not so interested in Claire and Frank. But I guess it is just as important.
I would love them not to kill off Murtagh and maybe not bother with Mr Willoughby. Never saw the point of him and found him very irritating.

TheHiphopopotamus · 14/07/2016 16:06

Yes to both! I hated the Mr Wiloughby character and the way they refer to him as 'the Chinese' Hmm Terrible character that's bordering on a racist stereotype.

Lessstressedhemum · 14/07/2016 16:41

Who actually cares about Claire's life in Boston? Other than Joe Abernathy, I don't think there is a single likeable person or interesting thing happens. Unloved, adulterous arse of a husband is unappreciative of moany wife, spoils whiny child and secretly finds wife's long lost lover. Said moany wife invests self in unorthodox career to compensate for all of the above. Jamie's life is much more moving and interesting and he grows far more as a person.

I've never really seen much point to Mr. Willoughby other than as yet another plot device to show how all Jamie's good intentions back fire on him, and as a handy way of disposing of the diabolical Rev. Campbell, secret murder of ladies of the night the world over.

Lessstressedhemum · 14/07/2016 16:43

They'll definitely utely kill off Murtagh. He dies at Culloden. Jamie won't be able to invoke his ghost's protection in battle if he doesn't die!

SenecaFalls · 14/07/2016 17:20

I do hope they introduce Young Ian in Season 3 (I think he first appears in Voyager, if memory serves). He's a very likable character.

OohMavis · 14/07/2016 18:09

Ah young Ian

bringonthetrumpets · 14/07/2016 20:21

From what I read from DG (on her website), she said the book she's working on is not the last one, but we will find out about Jamie's ghost in the last book sooooo.... we'll still have to wait and see! I love reading these hypothesis: forum.storywonk.com/index.php?/topic/332-loose-ends-hypotheses-questions/

Another anti-Willoughby. He just makes me mad when reading V because he's the reason J and C couldn't spend loads of quality catch-up time together b/c J had to go get him from the pub and he's the reason she's running for her life all of 6 hours after finding J! Hate the guy.

Yes to Young Ian!! Can't wait to find out who they cast (and how they make him look Mohawk).

Drywhitethanks · 15/07/2016 08:41

mr W seems a total waste of time to me.
Off to see if I can find tha Ron whats-his-name app about filming the series........

Lessstressedhemum · 15/07/2016 10:19

That forum is absolute madness. Who spends their time thinking about things like that? Have these people no actual lives? I never knew such people/places existed!

bringonthetrumpets · 15/07/2016 12:41

Oh BlushSad

TheHiphopopotamus · 15/07/2016 13:06

So the next book won't be the last? Has Claire discovered the secret to eternal life, along with penicillin, sanitary towels etc? Hmm

Seriously, how long is DG going to string this series out for? C & J will be living into the 20th Century at this rate, no need to zip back and forth through time.

Lessstressedhemum · 15/07/2016 13:15

Sorry, bringing, I didn't mean to be mean. I just didn't realise folk thought so deeply about it allFlowers

hudyerwheesht · 15/07/2016 13:17

I quite liked reading some of it, actually.

Agree it goes on and on and makes you wonder how on earth people find the time to write such essays but they're just slightly more extreme versions of this thread. Wink
I quite liked cherry picking interesting points made about things I probably missed reading the books. Though in all likelihood they don't mean anything but some are fun to ponder over. The Mr and Mrs Crooks, for example or the "deep lines" on Claire's wrists. As I said, probably don't mean anything but interesting.

I notice things like that in the series - like when Claire jokes about making a trip to Boston with Jamie after we've just seen the flash forward of her going to Boston withFrank.
Or when Roger said "smells like a fucking barbecue" about Geillis' sacrificial burning body - Geillis herself had said "I'm going to a fucking barbecue" about her impending burning at the stake at the witch trial.

AKAmyself · 15/07/2016 15:10

i;ve been listening to the ronald d moore podcast and LOVING it! I would highly recommend it as they discuss basically everything we are talking about in minute detail, and giving a really interesting insight into their creative process and decision making. I only listened to the last episode though.

In other news, i've just started book 6 (can't even remember the title? breath of ash and snow?), and wondering what is my life.

Drywhitethanks · 15/07/2016 16:22

I'm really enjoying Voyager at a slower pace, although I'm torn between reading it and watching S2 again.

I niticed the bbq thing and Claire says "ok" a lot ....which meant nothing in 1700s. Loved how she describes the aeroplane to J. You notice this more second time round.

Took another wrong turn today whilst telling DD the Outlander story Blush

snozzlemaid · 15/07/2016 18:07

Glad you're enjoying the podcasts AKA.
I've started from the very beginning and put the episode muted on the tv whilst I listen to the podcast on my iPad.
They're such a fantastic insight into how each episode was put together. It answers some questions about which bits of the books they follow or change and why they did that.
Perfect for someone as obsessed as me.

bringonthetrumpets · 15/07/2016 21:36

Right hudyer there were just some things pointed out that I'd completely missed that someone else noticed. It is extreme. People have been obsessed with this saga for years, now even more because of the show. I don't think that deeply about it or spend nearly that much time pondering how the ending will be but I still find it all addicting and will devour nearly everything about it.

Has anyone checked out DG's webpage and read the drip-feed sneak peeks she's posted in the next book?

Lessstressedhemum · 16/07/2016 09:38

I have, I can't help myselfBlush it's a bit like waiting for the next Wheel of Time used to be, or the new Song of Ice and Fire, although I waited almost a decade for that one!
I don't know why I was so shocked about that forum, George Martin has the same sort of thing going on, and there is a whole creepy WoT universe, where fans do weirdly obsessive stuff. I think it's just that I can't imagine devoting so !much time and thought to books someone else has written. Even when Robert Jordan died, I couldn't get !myself into the state that some folks were in and I'd been reading faithfully since 1990. (Incidentally, even though I love Brandyn Sanderson, I found it hard to deal with his writing in WoT, it just jarred and the characters did and said things that they would never have done, but that's a whole other discussion for strangely obsessive Dragon Reborn fans)
Apologies again, bring, I really didn't want to upset you.

bringonthetrumpets · 16/07/2016 19:41

Please think nothing of it Lessstressed no harm done! I think if you Google enough there are 100s of similar forums. It's crazy.

Wheel of Time? Is this something I should be getting on board with to keep the Droughtlander agony down?

Not sure if this was discussed before, but curious to read what others though of the interpretation of Master Raymond from the book to the series. I really hope that DG writes a spin off of sorts to tell us more about him and his experiences. He's so interesting.

bringonthetrumpets · 16/07/2016 19:49

So speaking of cray-cray, Less. I think I may have officially found the absolute cray-cray. Check out the nitpicking and analyzing of even the prologue of the book: outlanderbookclub.freeforums.org/drums-of-autumn-book-4-in-the-series-f6.html

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/07/2016 20:43

Crikey, are they analysing the book chapter by chapter? Confused

I love a good book/tv theory discussion but who has time for this kind of stuff?

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/07/2016 20:48

Although I follow someone on Instagram who lives their life like an elf from Lord of the Rings. I am undecided as to whether that is a good use of their time or not Grin

I may knit myself some fingerless gloves and start referring to my house as Lallybroch. In future please refer to me as (pause) Lady Broch Tuarach Wink

Lessstressedhemum · 16/07/2016 21:40

Crivens! That forum is absolutely nuts. How do folk have time for that? Why can't they just enjoy the books without all the madness? Living life as an elf, however, is most certainly a good use of timeGrin but perhaps not an LOTR elf.
Wheel of Time is an epic fantasy series written by Robert Jordan and, latterly. by Brandyn Sanderson using RJ's notes and outlines. It's fantastic. I read it over the 24 years that it took to write it starting in 1990. I love it and so do a whole community of internet nuttersGrin
