Can I just say that I wished that Lord John was cuter? I'm really hoping that the adult LJ actor is hot for future season. He's just been the hot, blonde, slender, gay guy in my mind in the books and to have him just be ho-hum would be really disappointing!

pixieg1rl · 28/06/2016 23:18

I think if they made such a tasty good choice in casting Comte St Germaine that I'm hopeful that LJ will be suitably alluring

Drywhitethanks · 29/06/2016 07:53

Remind me who Lord john is? Is the the 16yr old who tried to stab Jamie when he was having a wee?

Drywhitethanks · 29/06/2016 07:56

Also.......did anyone see the final GoT episode?
There is a dramatic scene at the beginning involving Cerceiy (sp) and the sound track is simple but incredible piano, reminded me of the piano piece in the scene in O when Claire returns to her Paris house, incredibly moving.......how would I find out if it's the same composer? Loved both, brilliant music.

TheHiphopopotamus · 29/06/2016 08:29

Lord John is the young lad who tried to kill Jamie. Later on, I think he's in charge of the prison where Jamie is kept. There's a whole homo-erotic subplot with the pair of them, coz LJ is in love with Jamie and Jamie even offers to let LJ have sex with him (for summat or other). I found that completely ridiculous after everything with BJR, no matter how grateful Jamie was to him, especially with attitudes towards homosexuality at the time.

LJ later gets his spin off series too.

TheHiphopopotamus · 29/06/2016 08:38

Although, depending on the actor who's cast, I may change my mind about the whole thing Blush

Lessstressedhemum · 29/06/2016 08:48

Lord John marries the adoptive mother of Jamie's son and promises Jamie that he will look after him and keep J informed occasionally of the wee boy's well being. In the most recent book, due to an unlikely chain of events, John marries Claire to save her from accusations of treason. He becomes an important character in his own right. He is still in love with jamie, god love him, all the way through.

bringonthetrumpets · 29/06/2016 16:00

I think my favourite Lord John part is when he first gets to Ardsmuir and how determined he is to not meet with the "leader" of the prisoners and how he tries to hide the fact he remembers Jamie. Just reading about the inner workings of his mind is entertaining. His spin-off series is pretty good too. Scottish Prisoner is really good. LOVE all the Jamie in the book. It's a nice distraction whilst waiting for the next giant novel to come out (le sob.... so can't wait!)

bringonthetrumpets · 29/06/2016 16:03

Has anyone read the novella "Virgins" yet? I listened to the audiobook while working on gardening stuff. Mmmmm... young Jamie. Thoughts?

snozzlemaid · 29/06/2016 16:09

I dont think I'm ever going to get around to reading anything other than DG books.
I'm on DOA at the moment and bought TFC at the weekend - it's bloody huge!

Would love to read LJG books too. How many are there?
And now you tell me about a book about young Jamie. Is it worth a go? Sounds good so far. Jamie's in it, so what's not to like.
Then I currently have the desperate urge to reread Outlander. I want to relive J & C meeting etc.
Oh god, I think I'll just hand my life over now.

Lessstressedhemum · 29/06/2016 16:17

There are 3 Lord John novels and then some short stories. They give some interesting background for between DIA and Voyager. Not sure what my favourite bit with him is, he has an interesting mind but I don't think he is as good at hiding his sexuality as he thinks. In the main books, he is a bit men, really, but plays a much bigger role in the last couple, for those that like him.

It becomes z bit of an obsession , doesn't it?

bringonthetrumpets · 29/06/2016 19:13

Yep that's pretty much what happens Snozz. Once you get sucked into DG's books no author, nor character, nor story plot will ever fill your wame quite the same again. Wink You'll just get to the end and start all over again. #1 is by far my favorite and it's fun to just pick up and pick out the best parts to relive.

Yeah, it's a story about Jamie and Ian in France. It's a nice one to breeze through.

snozzlemaid · 29/06/2016 20:35

Have just downloaded the kindle edition of Virgins so I can read that when out (lunch time at work etc). Save me having to carry huge DOA around with me.
I've got a pile of to read books, but they've all been put on hold now.

Drywhitethanks · 29/06/2016 21:57

Think my skim reading of the beginning of Voyager until J and C are reunited was a bit too 'skimmy', will start again properly I think.........Grin

bringonthetrumpets · 29/06/2016 23:04

Ha Drywhite totally know what you mean! It's like THE pivotal moment. I got all tingly when I read that part for the first time. I think someone mentioned earlier in the thread that there just wasn't enough time and explanation and detail of what those first few hours back together must have been like. I was so seriously craving more from that part and just felt so let down that she was suddenly on another adventure in a pub with her dress being ripped off. I really, really, really hope they just make that scene AMAZING in the upcoming TV show like how The Wedding episode in season 1. It's so swoon-worthy. I hope the director/producers get it right!

I wouldn't get your hopes up if this series is anything to go by Hmm

bringonthetrumpets · 29/06/2016 23:21

Sad I know... Disappointed with this season over all. Love the actors but the rest has just been kinda "meh".

Lessstressedhemum · 30/06/2016 08:41

Imagine having Jamie faint at your feet!

Sunnymeg · 02/07/2016 15:00

I read an interesting article, which unfortunately I can't find a link to. It said that Outlander is getting great viewing numbers worldwide , but the majority of viewers are already familiar with the novels. It appears
to be struggling to attract and keep new viewers. I wonder if this is why they have changed tack with Season 2, to try and reposition it as a more straightforward historical drama.

pixieg1rl · 02/07/2016 18:30

Finished my version of the rent shawl. Still needs to be stretched out to its full size.

DH watched and enjoyed the first series and watched a couple of episodes from S2 but hasn't bothered with anymore. He said they were just 'poncing about in France'. Hmm And whilst those aren't the words I would have used, I kind of agree with him.

I know it's been discussed to death on here but there really has been a change in tone and direction with S2. Not particularly for the better either.

snozzlemaid · 03/07/2016 18:10

Love the shawl pixie.
Dp is watching with me atm. We watched the episode from season 2 when they returned to Scotland last night. He was very disappointed with the fade to black sex scene. He was shocked we saw no more than J carrying C to the bed.
I finished DOA earlier so wish me luck with TFC. I'm going in, and maybe some time...

Justbeingnosey123 · 04/07/2016 01:30

I don't think the lack of sex is about attracting new viewers, look at game of thrones for example it doesn't seem to be an issue, I'm hoping they have either withheld the shagging to make the final goodbye more emotional and important, or to show a change in tone to season 1 the build up to war and the struggle that goes with it ect. ( not happy about it though as the books show this well without omitting anything). I do worry though as like most of you I have found myself watching season 2 and craving to redread the 1st few books to find the connection between Claire and Jamie that isn't there at the moment ☹️

Dollius01 · 04/07/2016 14:21

When is the final episode airing? I am overseas and have to wait for iTunes to update, but am usually one day behind you guys...

TheHiphopopotamus · 04/07/2016 14:29

There's no episode this weekend (because it's 4th July in America or something?) I think the finale is next weekend. Saturday in America on Starz and we get it on Sunday as usual.
