Great, thanks!

bringonthetrumpets · 07/07/2016 22:11

justbeingnosey I've found myself craving that old chemistry and closeness between them too. Often will just put on an old episode from S1 or read parts of the first book. I'm such a sucker for it Blush

Lessstressedhemum · 08/07/2016 07:33

I am not ready for this week's episode at all. Have been rereading Voyager to cheer myself up. I am such a sad act.

snozzlemaid · 08/07/2016 15:49

Half of me can't wait to see it and the other half doesn't want it to arrive.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how they do everything that is yet to happen. It's going to be such a great episode hopefully, but utterly heartbreaking. And I know once I've seen it there's going to be a very long time before the next series, which will be agony.

TheHiphopopotamus · 08/07/2016 17:55

From the review that was in this week's Heat magazine, it sounds like Claire will be back in the future telling Brianna and Roger about Jamie, whilst Jamie is battling it out at Culloden.

I wonder if the ep will end with Claire preparing to go back. Are they even going to show J & C's parting scene? Confused They've got so much to fit in.

Justbeingnosey123 · 09/07/2016 01:23

bringon that's exactly what I'm doing and it's such a shame cause the first season got it, and I don't know why it changed. I understood originally it was them dealing with Jaime's recovery but now in Scotland I don't get it???

Hippo from the reviews and the trailer I agree ☹️ I don't think the parting scene will be the one we know ☹️ I just hope they have listened and learnt from this season I was so excited for season 2 got so many friends interested and now I'm like meh for season 3 without the realationship, I'm just not sure the rest of the story stands .

Drywhitethanks · 09/07/2016 15:51

I've started my Outlander binge. So far up to episode 5 series 1. Better the second time round with no fast forwarding the boring bits you notice stuff you don't first time round.
Hadn't realized how much Murtagh is in it.
And, sex didn't feature until the Wedding, so pretty far in......
And like Doughal a lot more.
Wonder whether season 2 will be better binge watched.

Very worried about tomorrow and so sad there will be such a break Sad
Will be watching during the football.

snozzlemaid · 09/07/2016 21:03

I've just discovered the podcasts that Ron Moore has done for each episode. Don't know if any of you have listened to them.
I've just listened to episode 1 and he is actually talking through the whole episode. He explains how they filmed each bit and discusses scenes that they filmed but couldn't use.
I found it fascinating and will definitely be listening to more. Shame I couldnt see the episode at the same time, but may have to work at that. Could maybe put it on tv and listen to podcast on iPad.
He's drinking whisky throughout which you can hear him slurp occasionally!

Drywhitethanks · 09/07/2016 22:22

Where did you find these Snozzle?

snozzlemaid · 09/07/2016 23:36

They're on the app on my ipad. I'd heard about them so did an Outlander search.

Fiderer · 10/07/2016 08:12

Seeing as this is the spoilery thread & I've mostly been on the other one, I've now skimmed this one & blimey, Brianna.

Watched the finale last night. Found her shockingly annoying and shockingly bad. Was interested to know if she was equally annoying in the books & from what I've read, yes.

Roger was rather pleasing on the eye, even if acting-wise all he did was look concerned/puzzled/lustful.

TheHiphopopotamus · 10/07/2016 11:16

Ok, I've watched it.

Thought it was well done. They've cut the Claire in Boston stuff out, which is great. I'm liking Roger already. The goodbye at the stones was fantastic (if v.sad) and a lot of what's been missing from this season. I'm actually really excited about S3, which I didn't think I would be.

Brianna came across a right pain in the butt which is no different from the book, so at least they've kept that true to the story Hmm

Fiderer · 10/07/2016 11:51

There are scenes/situations which are jarring because they are & should be. Time travel, historical wotsits re characters etc., all of which (if done well) add to the story.

I didn't know if I was being unfairly harsh on Brianna as she came on the scene in the midst of 1968 when the story was all a changin'. But I did find her dreadful.

I can't decide if I want to buy the books so I might just stick to this thread for a bit Grin

When and how did Frank die?

TheHiphopopotamus · 10/07/2016 12:01

I think he died in a car crash not long before they go back to Scotland. He was going to leave Claire and wanted to take Brianna with him. I think he was a serial shagger throughout their marriage, possibly because he knew Claire didn't love him anymore (I skim read most of the books, so dont take my word for it though Grin I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me).

I personally, am not a huge fan of the books but I might re read them in more depth, while I wait for S3. They get worse as they go along, no one seems to have the balls to tell DG that she's rambling and that a lot of what she writes is unnecessary filler.

Brianna is one of the worst characters in the books. Haven't come across anyone yet who actually likes her. She's a total Mary Sue.

Badders123 · 10/07/2016 12:06

Not impressed
Briana ok - at least she is only as irritating as she is in the books!
Very disappointed they didn't show the battle after all the build up
Surely they will in series 3?
Dougals death was sad but necessary I think
What happens to Fergus?
(I've only read book 1 and half of book 2 - just lost interest Sad)

SestraClone · 10/07/2016 12:42

I thought the finale was amazing, I cried a few times through it. Bree was annoying, but she is in the books too. Roger is beautiful. It was jarring to see Claire all dolled up in the 60s, I didnt get that from reading the books - it worked very well to show the very different timelines she experienced.

SestraClone · 10/07/2016 12:43

I am sure they will do the battle scenes when Jamie & Claire finally meet up again and talk about their time apart.

TheHiphopopotamus · 10/07/2016 12:45

I think they'll show Culloden in flashbacks. There's a couple of deaths that we need to see or hear about. Fergus goes to live at Lallybroch.

I actually can't wait for Claire and Jamie's reunion.

Sunnymeg · 10/07/2016 12:50

Saved money by not showing the battle methinks. I thought the 1746 bits were rushed and that the dialogue throughout was poor. The ending was very cheesy with extra cheese on the top. Brianna was completely annoying, just like the books, not too sure that I can bear watching her escapades in series 3. Richard Rankin did a good job as Roger and caught his uncertainty about the situation very well. I thought the section about Gillian Edgars at the stones wasn't that easy to follow unless you'd read the books. I was underwhelmed to be honest.

Fiderer · 10/07/2016 13:12

Claire's hair was cheesy too. Stonking matronly 60s cut with "she's aged so here are a few grey streaks".

Justbeingnosey123 · 10/07/2016 13:14

The battle isn't really in the books though cause Jamie doesn't remember much so I think it will be flashbakes at best. Glad people found the finale better I can look forward to watching it after work now.

Fiderer · 10/07/2016 13:26

It was a v emotional episode, can't quite figure out why I thought bits didn't work.

Maybe that's why I mentioned the jarring - there was so much going on. The battle was somehow sidelined, not that I'd have been keen on bloodshed & doom.

Why didn't anyone kill "Bonnie Prince Mark Me" earlier? I'd have poisoned him months before.

TheHiphopopotamus · 10/07/2016 13:32

Why didn't anyone kill "Bonnie Prince Mark Me" earlier? I'd have poisoned him months before

That would have solved a lot of their problems. Didn't Murtagh offer to do it at one point?

And after all of Claire's meddling in 1745 amounting to nought but a couple of completely preventable deaths, what does she want to do? She wants to stop Geilis going through the stones. Does this woman never learn?

Lessstressedhemum · 10/07/2016 14:00

Frank dies in a car after a row with Claire. He tells her he is leaving g the country with his latest mistress and taking Brianna with him. They argue, he storms off and skids his car on black ice. He has a heart problem, though, which he tells rev. Wakefield about, so he was going to die anyway. He was awful, racist, adulterous, misogynistic, patronising g and deceitful. He knew Jamie didn't die at Culloden but never let on.
The battle isn't really in the books because Jamie can't remember it. His brain kind of wiped it from his memory because it was too traumatic.
Is Brianna as annoying as she is in the books? She completely grinds my gears. Whiny, self absorbed, judgemental, temperamental and generally a pain in the bum. She improves a bit by the later books but I can't warm to her at all.
I am still trying to prepare myself for today's episode Blush

Fiderer · 10/07/2016 14:11

There I was trying to be noble about Tobias Menzies but Frank sounds grim.

As do the books, tbh. Brianna in the last episode was as you described, "whiny, self absorbed, judgmental, temperamental and generally a pain."

Have gone off the books now Grin
