I know it's a bit grim but I did laugh at the poster who asked, "This being a medieval esque society do they even acknowledge marital rape though?"

It's Game of Thrones!

No it wasn't the same man. The gift is in next week's trailer. It's just a random northern man who brings a gift for Ramsay

That poster is me! Yes I know it's GoT!!! I bloody love it!! Doesn't mean we can't debate it. It's a very political show, it's all about power and patriarchy!!

The punishment for rape in Westeros is to take the black. Established in the books. So could Ramsay be forced to take the black for having raped Sansa?????

Who was the man that brings 'something' for Ramsey?

Report
Lilaclily · 02/05/2016 16:38

What is take the black ??

Report
BonerSibary · 02/05/2016 16:43

Take the black=become one of the knight's watch.

I did wonder if it might be Rickon, but like others I'm puzzled as to how they'd handle it. Ramsay would have to kill him, would be the only sensible thing in that situation. But with the way they've handled his character, he wouldn't push him off the tower quietly (which is how I'd probably have had him off Walda). He'd torture him to death, and I don't see how they can show that with a ten year old. Also would Ramsay even know who Rickon is? He does still think he's dead iirc.

Report
weirdsister · 02/05/2016 16:45

Perhaps Ramsey will use Rickon somehow to gain support?

Report
EverySongbirdSays · 02/05/2016 16:45

I won't hear of it that it's Rickon, I won't I tell you - basically because of where Book 5 leaves off. I can't work out who the man is that brings him the gift because the screen is too dark but I've seen him before. Theon could be on that cross.

"Take the black" is to join the Nights Watch

Nights Watch is pretty much made up of bastards and ex cons. It used to be the thing for one son of a noble family to join and be "of service" less so now. Sam's father made him join so he could disinherit him and make his younger brother the heir.

Its called taking the black because they only wear black. See also : Crows

In the books is there a 'fake' Sansa?

Report
weirdsister · 02/05/2016 16:49

How do you all know about the cross -has there been a clip?

Report
WestleyAndButtockUp · 02/05/2016 16:50

Wasn't trying to be insulting EverySongbird. Happy to debate.

If someone WAS going to argue marital rape, who would they argue it TO?

Are there judges and a legal system in GOT? It would it be to religious leaders? Who are the human representatives of the Old Gods in the North? What would they say about the wife of the Warden in the North?

In the books Sansa is still at the Eyrie with Littlefinger and co (and a bunch of other people who haven't really come up on the show).

Ramsay marries Jeyne Poole (the daughter of Ned Stark's steward) but everyone is pretending that she is Arya. So they are still playing the "all Stark boys dead, married to Stark girl therefore allowed to have Winterfell" game, but they are playing it with different players.

What is LIttlefinger up to right now?

Report
Trills · 02/05/2016 16:53

who would they argue it TO?

Good point.

For any laws to hold over which of Sansa's marriages "count", you need to have someone in charge. Right now there's not really anyone in charge.

There's stuff about the 'Battle of the Bastards' here:

winteriscoming.net/lists/every-game-of-thrones-spoiler-for-season-6/the-battle-of-the-bastards/

You can see the cross in the foreground although don't see anyone actually on it. Maybe it's there because Ramsay's planning to use it after winning the battle? I don't know of any clips, and it's much later in the series, but if anyone is aware of anything please link!

"Is there a fake Sansa?" in the books.

No, there's a fake Arya. Ramsey has hitherto been a much smaller character in the books. He thinks he's married to Arya Stark, in fact, the Lannisters sent him Jeyne Poole a friend of Arya/Sansa who grew up with them at Winterfell and went to court as part of the family group when Ned became the Hand.

Sansa is currently pretending to be Alayne Stone, Littlefingers bastard daughter and is still at the Eeyrie with him and Robyn Arryn. Littlefinger intends or has said he intends to eventually unmask her as Sansa Stark, marry her and be Warden of the North, unsure why book deviated so much.

Report
EverySongbirdSays · 02/05/2016 17:02

Why the show deviated even. Possibly because they never introduced Jeyne Poole and viewers be like Who that?

RE : The Law, that's the Maesters who Sam is off to join. All the Maesters we've been introduced to as yet are now dead. End Of Book 5 indicates they'll soon have a part to play.

Report
Trills · 02/05/2016 17:04

Are Maesters The Law though?

They are experts in various things and I can see that when society is stable they might be used to find out what the law says (because they have all the books ever), but do they enforce the law?

weirdsister · 02/05/2016 17:05

Thanks for that info about Sansa/Arya.
I don't understand Littlefinger at all. Which side is he on?

Report
BonerSibary · 02/05/2016 17:08

That's the $64,000 question weirdsister. His own.

Report
WestleyAndButtockUp · 02/05/2016 17:11

Maesters, by the way, are officially neutral, like the british Civil Service. Masters are assigned to a place, like the Maester of Winterfell. No matter who is in charge of Winterfell.

Report
EverySongbirdSays · 02/05/2016 17:13

"Which side is Littlefinger on?"

His own

He has rightly understood that the Lannisters are not worthy allies and has always changed tack according to what would serve him best.

What does LIttlefinger want?

Everything.

Report
BonerSibary · 02/05/2016 17:17

Littlefinger is supposed to be very clever and ambitious. He's come from a relatively modest background to be powerful, rich and influential. Since he doesn't have his own House behind him, he has to make alliances. Varys has him right, I reckon. I loved the scenes with those two together earlier on.
