(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

Nope.. Mr Saxon is running in the election... the blokey and the girlie speaking to Martha's mum are his henchpersons.

munz · 20/05/2007 22:48

eh did I miss an ep? when did he come into things? what does he want with teh dr?

MrsWho · 20/05/2007 22:50

He is the series arc, he is running for election. He is majorly interested in Space/aliens and especially the doctor
He is played by John Simm

MrsWho · 20/05/2007 22:52

Fillyjonk//any people in Wales, any suggestions of places to visit in Cardiff that have been in Dr Who ?

lemonaid · 20/05/2007 22:53

munz -- there have been references to Mister Saxon in a few episodes:

  • In 'Love & Monsters', a newspaper headline states that Saxon leads the polls for a general election.
  • In 'The Runaway Bride', the tank commander opens fire on the Empress of the Racnoss' ship under order from "Mr. Saxon".
  • In 'Smith and Jones', during a news report about the events in the episode, an interviewee says "All this just goes to prove Mr Saxon right." Later, as Martha Jones meets the Doctor in an alley, a poster displaying the slogan "Vote Saxon" is prominently displayed behind her.
  • "Vote Saxon" posters can also be seen stuck on the derelict dancehall in the Torchwood episode 'Captain Jack Harkness'.

Plus the (getting increasingly obvious) references in the last two episodes 'The Lazarus Experiment' and '42'.

SueBaroo · 20/05/2007 22:54

And therefore damn sexy. Just thought I'd through that in.

Blimey, I know I had a crush on Peter Davison, but I don't remember getting interested in DW in quite this way before.. lol.

lemonaid · 20/05/2007 22:54

Also see Martha Jones' MySpace page

foxinsocks · 21/05/2007 10:08

lol cornsilk, that's exactly what I thought!

I didn't think it was that good this one. It's almost as if this one was 'hang on, the good episode is coming soon' so we'll fill the time with a space ship heading towards the sun.

And did I miss why some people got taken over by the mad burny eye thing and not others?

UnquietDad · 21/05/2007 10:50

MrsWho - old dinosaur one starts in B&W because they lost the colour print - for years the episode was missing full stop, but then they turned up a film B&W print of it (you can see the difference in quality as well as colour) and they thought it was better than nothing.

Over 100 Hartnell & Troughton eps are still missing.

SueBaroo · 21/05/2007 11:09

Absolute travesty. Truly. Troughton was awesome, and it's such a loss not to have all his episodes.

MrsWho · 21/05/2007 20:10

Thanks UQD , you live and learn

MrsWho · 22/05/2007 22:34

Mrs Who - Ark In Space and Robots of Death for me, but I'd get The Invasion to admire what a great job they've done with the animation on the missing episodes.

SueBaroo · 23/05/2007 16:10

I've only seen a snippet of the animations, they do look good.

I love the Ark in Space, too. Green bubble-wrap monsters take a lot of beating.

SueBaroo · 23/05/2007 16:11

flutters eyelashes at UQD and his 'not doing being told'

MrsWho · 23/05/2007 19:55

Aitch · 26/05/2007 01:46

OMG, i've just watched Family of Blood and i am In Bits. if any of you miss it you will kick yourselves... it's a two-parter, first ep is Human Nature which i think might be tomorrow's. (sorry am a bit shite with tx dates).
anyway you lot, Do Not Miss It. although it is frightening so be aware. it's on a par with 'are you my mummy?' and all that...

SueBaroo · 26/05/2007 10:26

Aitch, permit me to squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I've been looking foward to Human Nature/Family of Blood since I first heard about it. I'm hoping t'will be my highlight of the series...

Aitch · 26/05/2007 11:29

the finale is certainly the best episode of Dr Who i've ever seen. covers Everything, very clever, great acting from DT, lots of fighting, a terrifying enemy, classic Christ/Who allusion etcetera etcetera... what more could a girl want?
although bloody terrifying for the nippers, i'd have thought.

foxinsocks · 26/05/2007 11:36

have just seen what the monsters look like for this episode (in the Radio Times) - the actors were given special breathing advice so they didn't freak out and panic while in the suits .

The storyline looks fantastic though.

Actually, although it only scored a 4 on the fear factor (rather than 5), I'm not sure I'll let mine watch it!

Aitch · 26/05/2007 13:41

which monsters were they? i'm all confused about what's running when. i'm talkinga bout scarecrows... but really scary ones.

DumbledoresGirl · 26/05/2007 14:00

Do any of you Dr Who fans know when we can expect Captain Jack back into the stories? I thought he was going to be in last week's episode and watched it all the way through for that reason alone I do normally watch it on and off as it is a favourite fixture for my dh and 3 of my children, but the promise of Captain Jack is really stirring me up!
