I can't see a thread yet, anyone else as a ridiculously excited as me after seeing the teaser trailer.

I reckon Tommy's married May. Or at least I hope so, 'cos I couldn't stand Grace.

OP posts:
Var123 · 28/05/2016 18:03

who do you think the spy in Tommy's household is? I am guessing its the housekeeper (Mary)

MrsSpecter · 28/05/2016 19:06

Im struggling to keep up with who is who as well. Was easier when they all just shot each other in the pub Grin

Spy? Possibly the housekeeper. She seems to have suddenly started to exist whereas before there was no mention of her. There's a reason she now has speaking parts.

MrsSpecter · 28/05/2016 19:07

Which would be a bit disappointing if it is her. Ideally they should have had us totally unsuspecting of her by having her existing from the first episode.

I think the spy is Arthur's wife, or is that too obvious?!

Var123 · 29/05/2016 12:07

I think Arthur's wife is too selfish for that. She wants the money to live the life that she wants. Can you imagine Arthur pricing up the baked beans and chatting up the customers into buying an extra bag of flour? If Bonnie and Clyde decided to stop by to do a bit of casual theft, they'd be in for a shock!

Also, the hint was its someone in his household i.e. family who live with him or the servants. It must be the housekeeper because she's got a speaking role, as MrsSpectre says. Or one of the men who were peaky blinders and now work for him?

I finally watched it - I loved it!
That Paddy Considine is a piece of work isn't he?

I quite enjoyed the snapshot into John and Esmes relationship.
And I remember the first series much more cinematic a la the girls walking down the street. It's one of the things I loved so much about it, I thought that scene didn't quite live up to it TBH.

And I agree, lol at Arthur 'pricing up beans' Grin although I respect Linda for her sheer brass neck.

MrsSpecter · 29/05/2016 20:37

He is creepy as fuck. That part where he made tommy recite some prayer but made him replace "god" with his (the priest's) name!! Scary bastard.

SilverBirchWithout · 29/05/2016 23:09

Whoop!
I've heard that BBC have commissioned at least 2 more series. It's doing very well in the U.S., apparently. I guess they use sub-titles as most Americans struggle with regional UK accents Smile

MrsSpecter · 29/05/2016 23:10

Yes i saw that too but didnt want to post incase it was a bit of a spoiler Grin

SilverBirchWithout · 29/05/2016 23:23

Oh sorry, I hadn't thought that it could be. But I suppose it does indicate Tommy doesn't die and they don't go legit. It would certainly make poor TV if they were just all running grocery shops!

Maybe they will all go to the U.S. to their audience happy?

MrsSpecter · 29/05/2016 23:34

It would. I like the going to the US idea. Maybe there'll be a gangs of new york type situation with the peaky blinders meeting some much bigger opponents.

SilverBirchWithout · 29/05/2016 23:48

It would be a shame for me, as I love the Birmingham backdrop.

In recent years I have got to know the area (as DS lives there) and part of my affection for the series is the lovely Brummie accents and the rehabilation of the way it is perceived.

I guess they may put in some more bits about the U.S., they certainly seem to mention it at least once each episode. But I suspect the attraction for the American viewers is because it's set in the UK.

MrsSpecter · 30/05/2016 00:09

Tbh i hope they dont bring it to the US. I hope it stays gritty and brummie. This season has already gone a bit too far out of where it worked best for me really. Any more and it wouldn't be the same show.

Var123 · 30/05/2016 01:17

I hope it stays British too. The minute they start writing scripts to help the US sales, they will ruin it, espeically if they start to work in American characters played by famous American actors who'll have to get one over on the brits just to keep the US audience whopping ta the TV!

Also, IME, American shows over-explain things and stop every 10 minutes for a lengthy ad break after which they then do a recap of what was happening just before the ad break. One of the best things about Peaky Blinders is that it never explains things slowly - you either get it first time or ask on MN!

spookyelectric · 30/05/2016 11:25

I have some hearing loss and watched on catch up so no subtitles available - what did Tommy say on the stairs at the end as Ada went to get an ambulance? Would be grateful to know

Thanks - thought I'd missed something crucial.

Var123 · 30/05/2016 12:38

I couldn't quite make it out but I thought it was "This is all down to you, Dad. Its all because of you."
TBH What i thought I heard did not make sense, so maybe it was the seeing angels thing instead.

Var123 · 30/05/2016 12:44

I listened to it again.. "I you, Dad. I can see you."

Archer26 · 30/05/2016 14:10

See this is where my bad habit of having the subtitles on comes in handy. He said 'except you dad, I can see you'.

I watch everything with subtitles. No need to, I just hate to miss anything! Drives my DH mad.

ThursdayLastWeek · 31/05/2016 07:42

Well done Archer!

MrsFring · 02/06/2016 20:02

I'm being a bit dim here.... Can someone remind me why Polly/Tommy were attempting to assassinate the evil priest?

SilverBirchWithout · 02/06/2016 20:28

Well first of all Tommy hasn't 'warmed' to him because the priest is a thoroughly nasty piece of work and a self-confessed paedophile who is keen to be involved in the children's home Tommy is funding.

However Tommy also discovered that the priest is a mole in the plan, leaking information to the Red Russians.

MrsFring · 02/06/2016 20:31

Thanks Silver, how did he discover that though? I can't remember the scene....
