I think those photos of John will be his downfall. I reckon copies of them will be found on Vickys PC (by Ann?) when they're investigating her death, and he'll find himself being accused of being the serial killer. (Having said that, I never normally guess these things correctly, so am probably wildly off the mark!)

Gruach · 24/02/2016 19:32

But if there had been any build-up the horrendous irony would have been lost.

There does seem to be a more precarious balance between serious story and cartoon horror in this series. I have to remind myself to see it more as "Last Tango in Criminality" than a realistic portrayal of crime.

diddl · 24/02/2016 20:05

It just didn't ring at all true, did it?

Having your lover round for a quickie with your kids in the house??

Clawdy · 24/02/2016 20:44

Yes,there were too many moments this week where I was thinking "Hmm.....would never happen....."

ellenanora5 · 24/02/2016 21:00

I too wondered was it in his imagination, especially when he was talking like that in front of the children.

Frances is practically sitting on top of Tommy in those scenes, she is so creepy.

I'm loving the series so far, think it's brilliant

FloraFurball · 24/02/2016 21:20

I think that the fact that there was no build up was the point. He was so wrapped up in his own affair, spending nights away on ops with the OW it didn't occur to him that his wife might be unhappy and be playing away as well. The scenes we've seen he hasn't been very nice to his wife or kids. They probably do like Graham more. I think the ridiculous name calling was as a result of him committing a totally unnecessary murder and projecting guilt. He could've left, his wife wouldn't have given a shiny shit.

Gruach · 24/02/2016 21:27

Except that he didn't want to leave - he'd already gone off Vicky. Grin

FloraFurball · 24/02/2016 21:33

Creeping although Catherine maintains that Tommy raped her daughter her son Daniel had a major rant in S1 about how she got away with everything with no consequences as she was the golden child compared to him. Playing truant, hanging with a bad crowd and doing drugs. Daniel said that what happened was inevitable and Catherine should have seen it coming as a police officer and mother and should have done more.

Tommy told Ryan that he loved his Mum (Ryan's) in the last episode of S1 and never hurt her. That said, he told Frances last night that he didn't rape Ann or kill the policewoman that he ran over. We saw that he did. But... Would a rapist really be that desperate to know a child they had fathered? I think there is more to it.

drspouse · 24/02/2016 21:40

If Tommy believes she loved him it's pretty reasonable by his standards. He has no idea what a relationship looks like, and if he had entrapped her in some way she may have been trying to keep him sweet, as DV victims do.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2016 21:40

i know i keep saying it but

frances took her ring off again at prison - sure this means something - wonder who she is married to

i assume john burnt the flat to destroy all his dna/fingerprints and stuff on computer

wonder how he got her body out of flat without anyone seeing him and to the derelict building and Shock he bottled her up the fanjo

body from tree - not nice, but how did he get so high, no ladders/chairs/low branches to climb

sadly i know about suicide and hanging :( and those found in a wood usually tho guess not 100% have a ladder etc

therefore i dont think it was suicide and ws the gang silencing him

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2016 21:43

true flora tommy always said he didnt rape catherine dd, ryans mum

maybe he actually was inncoent of everything catherine accused him in s1

he didnt rape the victim(soz forgotten her name) the new copper,it was his friend, he heldher captive but didnt rape

FloraFurball · 24/02/2016 21:48

Aye Gruach how many times that been played out on the Relationships board. 'It's over, it meant nothing...' I love that his wife got one over on him. They're both as bad as each other but only one resorted to murder.

FloraFurball · 24/02/2016 21:56

He did rape her Blondes (Ann Gallagher) there was no doubt about that. Did you watch S1??? His 'friend' Lewis was only a colleague at the caravan park. They both worked for Ashley who masterminded the kidnap. Lewis was a very reluctant kidnapper who knew Tommy had abused her. It was Lewis who tried to help Ann. Tommy murdered him for that.

ILikeToClean · 24/02/2016 22:06

I noticed the ring being on on the train and then off when she visited TLR. The prison scenes are so squirmy!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2016 23:03

clean me too, i always notice jewellery, tho no one seems bothered she takes it off in prison Grin

flora yes i did see s1, obg having memory lapses, i thought he didnt rape ann? it was his friend, i am wrong

or did he always say he didnt rape catherines daughter

brain gone dead :(

DorynownotFloundering · 24/02/2016 23:34

I think creepy Frances has deluded herself they are engaged/married but takes it off for visiting.

She looks like she wants him to take her then & there over t'table Grin

DrivingMissLazy1 · 25/02/2016 12:04

I've been avoiding this thread as I've only just caught up with episodes 2 and 3. I'm loving it so far and Sarah Lancashire's acting is fab.
I've spent ages working out where I've seen the Superintendent before. How did I not realise he was Henry in Cucumber? That was one of my favourite programnes last year.
No speculations from me as I'm usually miles off course.

TheHiphopopotamus · 25/02/2016 12:36

I'm loving this new series, although it does seem a bit far fetched in places. Not sure why John thought his only option was murdering Vicky. As someone has already said, those pictures weren't even that bad. Also finding a possible relationship between Ann and John hard to believe.

As to Tommy's rape of Catherine's daughter, I thought it was somewhat ambiguous in the last series. Catherine was adamant that she'd been raped, her son seemed to imply that she was off the rails and running with the wrong crowd and Tommy denied that he'd raped her.

Tommy definitely did rape Ann however, and ran the other police woman over, and killed the other kidnapper and the bloke who was hiding them both.

Seriouslyffs · 25/02/2016 14:17
Sad I'm a bit disappointed tbh. Catherine is such a strong character so beautifully acted that I overlooked the violence and misogyny and I can't this time. I'm also watching Shetland and that is so much more thoughtful and feminist weirdly although the main character is male.
lizzydrippingsghost · 25/02/2016 14:26

ive just read in the paper that the woman that copper killed(amelia whats her name) blinked when she was in the morge did anyone else see it

diddl · 25/02/2016 14:43

I didn't spot it!

Then again it's rare that I'm absolutely scrutinising the screen as I watch stuff!

Clawdy · 25/02/2016 14:45

I just re-watched that scene and still didn't see the blink.
