This Sunday (17th) at 8pm on BBC1.

I enjoyed the Christmas special - it was good to see Delia back, and I think there's going to be a nice romance with Tom and Barbara Smile

The - it looks like we are going to get a thalidomide story.

the nun's are Anglican so would they have the same stance on "the pill" as Catholics??

NeedACleverNN · 21/02/2016 21:06

Gosh that was a rough episode.

Even my husband cringed when she pulled on the cord.

I knew sister Mary Cynthia was going to get attacked.

I'm glad he was caught nice and quickly though

Lj8893 · 21/02/2016 21:07

I assume so sally

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 21/02/2016 21:09

What actually is the catholic stance? I know you are not supposed to use contraception, but is that because you are stopping a potential life or because you are interfering with god's will? Or are they getting upset because they think it will encourage women to sleep around?

SuffolkNWhat · 21/02/2016 21:10

Every sperm is sacred or so I learnt from Monty Python

Admit it you're now singing it aren't you Grin

NorfolkEnchantsToday · 21/02/2016 21:12

Ahh of course thank you

BestIsWest · 21/02/2016 21:13

Fantastic acting by the actress who played Mary Cynthia.

Moln · 21/02/2016 21:14

Same bible I suppose. Funny not thought about Anglian finding contraception morally wrong before. Which is daft of me.

diddl · 21/02/2016 21:14

My goodness that was hard going!

Moln · 21/02/2016 21:18

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser

"In using contraception, the couple is trying to eliminate the rightful influence which God has over the events of procreation. If a couple uses contraception, they are, by their actions, saying to God that they are unwilling to conceive a child, even if it be God's will. Contraception is a sin, a serious sin, because contraception, by its very design, attempts to prevent God from taking His rightful role in the process of the procreation of God's own children."

Shock

So there you go.

seasidesally · 21/02/2016 21:19

i guess we will find out their stance next week

they must be against it though otherwise there would not be a story

MarthasHarbour · 21/02/2016 21:20

I shouted at the TV when locum doc said 'a good tug on the cord'

There has been some powerful acting this series. I did a U-turn on my dislike for Cynthia tonight. That scene with SMJ was wonderful.

seasidesally · 21/02/2016 21:20

wow guess it's a no no then Grin

mrsmeerkat · 21/02/2016 21:21

I couldn't watch sum of it.. really hard going.

I went to school in the mid 1990s in London and we were given natural planning advice. Crazy when I look back.

MrsJamin · 21/02/2016 21:23

The bath scene was very moving indeed, sniff.

SirChenjin · 21/02/2016 21:23

Very good episode tonight and wonderful acting from Cynthia. Very hard to watch the mother desperately trying to save her daughter - thank god we live now.

TooAswellAlso · 21/02/2016 21:25

I'm a little behind, but the scene in the bathroom between the nuns just made me sob

Moln · 21/02/2016 21:27

Oh should have said that's off a Catholic site. Protestant views were similar up to about 1930s (according to my last five minute research.

lavendersun · 21/02/2016 21:27

I did a U turn on Cynthia too tonight. Incredibly well done.

Yes to crossing my legs tightly at the afterbirth bit too!

TooAswellAlso · 21/02/2016 21:28

I still can't like judgmental nun though, don't know her name, but even at the dinner table she was bitch face when the others were worried
