This Sunday (17th) at 8pm on BBC1.

I enjoyed the Christmas special - it was good to see Delia back, and I think there's going to be a nice romance with Tom and Barbara Smile

The - it looks like we are going to get a thalidomide story.

I had Shelagh pencilled in for a lung cancer scare after she made a comment about smoking so little.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 15/02/2016 09:23

And she had TB, don't forget. Am sure there's some cigarette/TB complication that will cause some kind of eyebrow furrowing.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 09:25

Any thoughts on Delia retraining as a midwife?

Any thoughts on Delia retraining as a midwife?

She'll have to save the day at least once more first.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 15/02/2016 09:34

Oh I am definitely thinking Delia will retrain as a midwife, there were definite hints. She could join the Nonnatuns, it would be glorious.

And I fear for the doctor/Shelagh, I was worried one of them would be in for a lung cancer scare.

MrsJayy · 15/02/2016 09:41

Delia is so going to retrain but she will need a plot first last night was just a taster. I found the older man and his princess slightly creepy I know he was meant to love and cherish her but it was weird imo. Timmy is getting more and more irritating as he gets older isnt he?

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 15/02/2016 09:42

Isn't it more likely to be Timmy? A passive smoking storyline.

We already know about the danger of smoking, the danger of passive smoking would be a bit more 'ooo, fuck' and less obvious.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 15/02/2016 09:43

And yes, Timmy is bloody annoying.

He needs to get together with Sister Winifred and they can run around being judgemental and condescending together.

MrsJayy · 15/02/2016 09:46

Dd said when sister winnie floated down stairs behind nurse crane ooo its sisterjudgey Grin

Imnotaslimjim · 15/02/2016 10:20

king I mentioned the knickers thing to DH and he said maybe she removed them before phoning because they were wet? I suppose that would make sense!

Timothy really annoys me, such a know-it-all!

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 15/02/2016 13:49

I'd like to know, how was that woman (who I found extremely annoying) able to write the note to her husband (who I liked very much and felt sorry for) when she was unable to read the pamphlet?
I remained dry-eyed through last night's episode for a change

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 14:54

She could read the pamphlet, they showed her reading it very slowly and painfully sounding out words. IIRC, all 3 of mine could write things before they could reliably read them.

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 15/02/2016 15:09

I thought she gave up on it! That's interesting, I don't remember learning to read, but I'm learning 3 languages at the moment and find it much easier to read than to write in them.
My attention did keep wandering last night, not enough Patsy and Delia. I do love Nurse Crane though! Smile

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 15:38

I don't remember learning to read either as I could read before starting primary. I remember the SmallDragons doing it and they seemed to find writing stuff easier than sounding out the words to read them. They also used to give up on reading in frustration!

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 15:39

I think Nurse Crane is exactly what you need if you're struggling - straightforward, sensible and caring without all the fluffy stuff :)

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 15/02/2016 15:56

Yes, she's lovely. I loved the episode where she met her gentleman friend at Spanish class and I was glad it had a happy (ish) outcome for them!

Behooven · 15/02/2016 16:57

Anyone know if it's possible to view the previous series 1-4 online? I don't have a DVD player so no point in buying them.

Hulababy · 15/02/2016 18:10

KingJoffrey - I think for some people quitting can be fairly easy. It certainly seemed to be for my grandma. She had smoked a lot since her early teens, but in the 70s had a big health scare and needed an operation. But she was told she would needed to stop smoking before the op for it to be any chance of success. And from that moment on she simply stopped and hasn't smoked since - about 10 years now I think.

So for some people pure determination makes it easier I guess.

Some others it can be far more tricky. Possibly down to personality types and how much of an addictive type personality you have.

BikeRunSki · 15/02/2016 18:14

Beehooven series 1-3 are on Netflix. I entertained myself with these when I was off work sick last week.

seasidesally · 15/02/2016 18:18

Behooven

im not sure about tv but my son downloaded series 1 and two yesterday onto a memory stick that you put into the back of a tv

last night i started watching series 1 and watched the first 4 episodes, was a bit of a marathon

i can ask him when he gets back if your interested

last nights episode just didnt do it for me im afraid

TinklyLittleLaugh · 15/02/2016 18:33

The young wife with a dodgy past had a gorgeous wardrobe though. What was the husband's profession? Surely being an incense supplier wouldn't have been quite so lucrative?

BikeRunSki · 15/02/2016 18:59

She did Tinkly I was getting very twitchy when she was giving birth in that lovely blue silk dress.?

diddl · 15/02/2016 19:12

Ooh that brought back memories!

I was on the phone to the GP on my knees in the hall, waiting for the midwife!

diddl · 15/02/2016 19:13

Not in the 60s though & not in a beautiful dress!
