This Sunday (17th) at 8pm on BBC1.

I enjoyed the Christmas special - it was good to see Delia back, and I think there's going to be a nice romance with Tom and Barbara Smile

The - it looks like we are going to get a thalidomide story.

He was minty in eastenders too

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 14/02/2016 20:57

Fred was in Eastenders.

Loveable oaf in that too. Cute smile.

LavenderRain · 14/02/2016 20:58

I think Fred was in heartbeat -tooaswell

TooAswellAlso · 14/02/2016 20:58

Ah thank you. I don't watch eastenders much but caught the odd episode and minty rings a bell :-)

TooAswellAlso · 14/02/2016 20:59

Do you think there is something horrible going to happen to one of the midwives or nuns next week?

LavenderRain · 14/02/2016 20:59

Oh yea minty!! I loved him

Now I did watch heartbeat a lot, so that might make more sense for me to remember!

MrsJamin · 14/02/2016 21:04

I still don't really get the main storyline, poor girl who was abandoned by parents gets 'saved' by older rich man, has baby but doesn't feel worthy of 'perfect princess' label and runs away?

I'm sobbing
It's like the early version of my job except now we have what to do in front of us
That moment when you hear a newborn first cry over the phone is like nothing else

I cried all the way through tonight's episode Blush

seasidesally · 14/02/2016 21:27

10 mins into episode 1,so excited

rivierliedje · 14/02/2016 21:28

Am I the only one who burst out giggling at sister Moncia Joan at the dinner table?

GruntledOne · 14/02/2016 21:37

I watched this evening's with DH and two grown up DSs; it's categorically not their sort of programme but they were too inert to move. The scene with Mrs Dawley on the phone in labour had them transfixed with horror, I think they're still traumatised by it. Grin

Tonight my 11 wandered in, just as I was wondering how to explain the inevitable prostitution questions he declared he is glad he is not a woman as he would hate to go through pregnancy, and wandered out again. I LOVE this programme it gives me the sofa to myself! GrinWine

Clawdy · 14/02/2016 23:11

What were all those earlier posts about incest? Wasn't it obvious from the start he was her husband, even though he was older?

Catzpyjamas · 14/02/2016 23:24

Just catching up.
Clawdy, I understood that Dennis produced incense not committed incest

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 15/02/2016 00:39

They made giving up smoking look a bit bloody easy, didn't they?

I've not smoked so possibly shouldn't be commenting but I was led to believe that quitting is quite fantastically hard.

Do we have a Stop Smoking section on MN? Should I recommend origami and digestives? Do you think that would be helpful? Or might they all tell me to fuck off?

Catzpyjamas · 15/02/2016 08:16

KingJoffrey, having lived with someone trying to give up, I suspect you'd be told where to shove your biscuits and paper frogs.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 15/02/2016 08:25

And as much as one hates to pick bally great holes in such a top show, the poor girl who went into labour unexpectedly and gave birth over the phone? Did she actually at any point take her knickers off?

She didn't, did she?

Does anyone else think that Shelagh will have an unexpected pregnancy and be given thalidomide and the cliff hanger at the end of the Christmas episode will be them finding out about the drug and not know their baby 's future? Or was I reading too much in to that "You are my only son" comment by Dr Turner?
