Don't watch this often and tonight's was cringey in the extreme.
Anyone else watch it?
Peter threw others out at end as had a mega strop at coming last.
Ooh err.....

I don't blame her for chucking up. I'm sure it's like that end of the holiday feeling where you can't stand any more decadent food and just want beans on toast! If I got on the show I'd want to be the first contestant.

Giraffe my thoughts exactly - I said something along these lines to my husband as we observed the train wreck last night.

exLtEveDallas · 05/01/2016 13:37

I've just watched it. I think Jane was blunt, bordering on rude but didn't deserve the diatribe Peter threw at her.

I think Peters comments to the blonde and the American (quite embarrassing that I can't remember their names) were horrible and completely out of order. In the final clip I think it's quite obvious that the blonde had been crying, probably due to the 'nothing in there' comment. The American held it together very well I thought.

Disgraceful conduct from Peter - apparently he has now shut down his Twitter, I'm not surprised.

Adam and Charlotte, I think, kept looking nervously at the cameras, as did fat angry man, as if to say, somebody intervene

RufusTheReindeer · 05/01/2016 14:20

She was rude

I cant stand it when rude people say that they are just blunt, honest and say it as they see it...no love, yiu're just rude Grin

But he hasn't covered himself with glory has he!!!

AppleSetsSail · 05/01/2016 14:22

I would have been slightly worried for my safety had I been in the room when he announced the winner. He seemed a bit... dangerous.

ItsANewDayToday · 05/01/2016 14:25

Imagine if the first dinner was a real dinner and it was a woman that had been asked if she ate all the pies by a man.

...and imagine she had started a thread about it on MNHQ

I doubt she would have been adviced that a 'witty' comeback would suffice Confused

Btw. I'm REALLY REALLY not sticking up for Peter he's an arse but I think Jaynes comments were nasty and calculated and I am surprised so many people are dismissing them as nothing to worry about.

Dumbledoresgirl · 05/01/2016 14:34

I've just watched it having seen this thread earlier.

Well, I have a different opinion to the rest of you. I found the blonde surpremely irritating - I can't stand ditzy women - and I thought the American was completely out of his depth. His food was not worthy of a dinner party (neither was the blonde's) and he made a fool of himself serving the food he did and commenting on the food made by the others (ok, Americans don't have fishcakes, I get it, but it isn't that hard a concept to grasp is it?)

I actually thought there was a peculiar attraction between Jane and Peter. The way he saw only her as his competition showed he had a respect for her that he didn't have for the others (and I can't blame him there). Yes, they have different opinions on things, but he valued her in a way and I imagine the criticism that she then gave him hurt all the more because it came from her.

I thought Jane was far ruder to him than he was to her but I accept that much was not shown. I actually liked both Peter and Jane in their ways. I did not like the blonde or the American. Only Peter and Jane deserved to win. Peter did not deserve to come last on the basis of his food. I would have been as pissed off as he was wrt being placed after the blonde and the American. It was like inviting a couple of toddlers to a dinner party and then having your food slated because it did not contain baked beans (or cheesy triangles, or whatever that airhead mentioned).

Tiggeryoubastard · 05/01/2016 14:40

Yes itsanewday I think they were calculated. I was too tired to express myself fully last night but there are a certain breed of police officers that make a habit of this. Pressing the right buttons seemingly innocuously in an arrogant manner to wind people up for better results. A few colleagues of my ex husbands were used to acting like that, and unable to stop it permeating into their private lives. It's a form of institutionalised bullying used by nasty coppers. She hid it well but it's still patently obvious when you know the patterns. That said I stand by my previous descriptions of Peter.

DickDewy · 05/01/2016 16:07

I watched it today.

The end was excruciating. Peter was undoubtedly rude and ungracious but Jane was very rude too. She is typical of the police officers I know - arrogant and patronising and as someone upthread observed - very calculating. I can't stand people like her.

Peter should have sucked up the result, but I would have been quietly indignant too, coming last to the stupid, ditsy blonde and the American (I liked him but his food was infantile).

maybebabybee · 05/01/2016 16:10

I would have much rather eaten the American's food than Peter's food, I can't stand pretentious dinner party food. Prefer food that is actually tasty. I also hate fruit in savoury things so would not have enjoyed his peach salad! But his lemon posset looked nice.

It seems laughable to me to be upset about the result though, and especially to have a tantrum like a small child, and all in front of the cameras. I'd look on it much more as a game, a social experience, and a chance to be on telly - but I guess some people get carried away by the thought of the 1k prize?

FairyDustDreamer · 05/01/2016 16:55

I think his pride was dented and he seemed almost hurt...

Tonight's episode likely to be an anticlimax...

So glad there is already a thread started on this. Just watched after reading the DM article and seeing the clip of the end.

The comment Jane made about his weight was daft; she certainly didn't have a slim figure either, but he could have countered it easily with humour. I reckon he feels really sensitive about it.

It was Peter who first actually asked for people's opinion of him very, very risky imo (at the dinner table, on the final night) and probably expected lots of gushing comments about what a wonderful cook he was etc.

I say this because of the nasty comments he made in the kitchen; he seemed to believe he was easily the best cook and everyone else was rubbish.

He was shocked when the forthright Jane told him her personal opinion; it was critical and he could not cope with it at all, hence the totally unacceptable diatribe which not only insulted Jane, but the other two contestants, and sealed his fate as last place loser at that moment.

Certainly Jane gave him a respectable 7 (which I was surprised about, after the way he spoke to her at the table) and I believe her training and experience with the police force had a lot to do with her reaction to his anger. She remained calm and did not get upset by his personal and insulting comments that he originally asked for, not her.

The end bit was really hard to watch, so dreadful. He really lost it. Now it has been aired, I wonder what the fall-out will be for Peter? He didn't come out of it well at all. What a shame.

I much prefer it when everyone gets on at the end, a nice feel-good show.

Boogers · 05/01/2016 16:58

This story made it to my MSN news feed, sounds like a cracker! Will look for it on 4OD, especially after what you've all said about it!

Hissy · 05/01/2016 19:59

Just watched it on 4OD... Hilarious!

I need a hobby.

oh mi god - trying to watch on catch up on 4 FUCKINGADVERTSAREFUCKINGANNOYING - sorry, needed to vent

EssentialHummus · 06/01/2016 10:41

YY to whoever said Jane nailed the high ground by giving Peter a decent score for his night - so Peter coming last was the "fault" of the blonde and the American.

I don't think either Peter or Jane covered themselves in glory during the episode - each made unnecessary, hurtful comments to the other, possibly because they realised they were one another's competition. But Peter's reaction in the end was so extreme and excessive. I imagine this will have some impact on Peter IRL and a part of me thinks, well, you deserve it.

As an aside, I'd love to taste Peter's food. It looked the best of the four to me, and I'm really curious to know whether it looked great but tasted shite (hence the low scores), or whether blonde and American hated Peter so much that they scored him punitively.
