Anyone watching?

OP posts:
spanky2 · 27/12/2015 22:12

Aiden turner is so yummy. Fits right into the angry handsome vacuum left by Don Draper. Joking with dh about him taking his shirt off, then just wearing a towel...

Muffintopmum · 27/12/2015 22:16

Very gripping - not read the book and can't wait to see how it pans out.

Muffintopmum · 27/12/2015 22:17

And AT in a towel - an added bonus.

Choughed · 27/12/2015 22:19

Aidan Turner is very well put together. The towel was far too big Grin

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/12/2015 22:19

After the first episode it occurred to me I might be tempted to take shelter in Mr Lombard's bedroom at night - purely safety in numbers, you understand.

(We were visiting the area this summer BoGrainger. Feeling peckish we were sorry to read a notice on the hotel gates something about food available for residents only but there's the pub close by).

ineedaholidaynow · 27/12/2015 22:19

DH and I commented on how all the other men were wearing dressing gowns, Aidan Turner's character must have forgotten to pack his Xmas Grin

angelos02 · 27/12/2015 22:23

Disgusting exploitation...of viewers
...Aiden Turner's towel was far too big!

IjonTichy · 27/12/2015 22:24

I think they should have checked under the towel, just to be sure Grin.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 27/12/2015 22:25

That was scary had to switch the lights on BBC know how to make a good dark atmospheric drama

Poor guy no dressing gown I would be happy to share mine while I am still in it

IjonTichy · 27/12/2015 22:27

But seriously, am really enjoying this adaptation. It's a lot more sweaty than an Agatha Christie novel, but it works well. I can see they're building up for sexy times between Vera and Lombard, which normally I'd think was a bit unnecessary, but given it's Aidan Turner I can hardly blame her Wink.

IjonTichy · 27/12/2015 22:28

Sweaty?!! FFS autocorrect! SWEARY!

lorelei9 · 27/12/2015 22:32

I tried to catch up on iplayer - didn't see first ep

managed 30 minutes, could see good bits but soooooo slow.....so went back to MNing.

is it worth trying again? I am really tired so maybe not the best frame of mind for a slow burn. But does it get a bit faster? There was hardly even any dialogue in the first 30 mins.

snozzlemaid · 27/12/2015 22:33

I think sweaty maybe the correct word seeing the preview clip for tomorrow.

Muffintopmum · 27/12/2015 22:36

Fast forward to the last ten minutes or so of ep 2 - well worth it.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/12/2015 22:39

Oh my, Aidan Turner spent quite a long time wandering around in just a towel, didn't he?

He did indeed. It's very good and not just for that.

Dowser · 27/12/2015 22:39

Oooh! I think I've remembered the end and who did it!

I am now watching that person like a hawk.

In fact, I think there's already been a massive clue.

( they are all a weird bunch though aren't they?)

absolutelynotfabulous · 27/12/2015 22:39

It's reminding me a bit of Gosford Park..

TurduckenForDinner · 27/12/2015 22:47

I noticed a few times that Lombard's dialogue seemed a bit modern for the late 1930s, which seemed odd as all the other characters' dialogue seemed ok. (Not that I was around in the 1930s, obviously, but my family are long-lived so I had plenty of relatives who were young adults in the 1930s.)

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 27/12/2015 22:48

I am assuming the answer is in the name

No need to tell me I am right Grin or wrong

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 27/12/2015 22:53

Yes I thought the dialogue seemed wrong at times

Taking the piss Confused and I think the butler said to his wife shut it you dumb bitch we we all know shut it comes from The Sweeney

Siwi · 27/12/2015 22:53

Taking the piss
Stirring the piss pot
He would say that wouldn't he?

Lightbulbon · 27/12/2015 22:53

Why don't they all just stick together and take turns in falling asleep?

Dipankrispaneven · 27/12/2015 22:57

Absolutelynotfabulous, they've been lured there on various pretexts - e.g. employment, invitations to meet people, etc.

Siwi · 27/12/2015 22:59

Why didn't Lombard keep his gun on his person?
Why not separate or destroy the figures?

IjonTichy · 27/12/2015 23:03

The dialogue was a little modern, the policeman epically is far too coarse for Agatha Christie, but it's not annoying me too much. What annoys me more is Dr Armstrong, who has seemed on the verge of a nervous breakdown from the beginning. You would suspect him straight away with how highly strung he is, he was much more normal in the novel. And not a misogynist.
