OP posts:
LemonBreeland · 07/12/2015 10:52

I do think that if Anita gets to do show dance it will be a cringefest of all the Glebtacular moves that Gleb can put into it. And probably all about him and not Anita.

Samcro · 07/12/2015 10:55

i like Anita, Jay and Katie(but think Jay is my fave)
GG annoys me, all that little girl princess stuff, grow up woman.

SheHasAWildHeart · 07/12/2015 10:57

I think the only person safe in the DO is Jay - if he was ever (shock!) in the DO against any of the others they'd go. Any other combination of dancers in the DO and it's hard to call.
All this "fix" and other nonsense in the papers is so tedious. Helen was low on the leaderboard and then didn't get enough public votes. Easy peasy.

ppeatfruit · 07/12/2015 11:17

Agree about the nonsense about fixes SheHas. Also about Jay.

To be fair poor Georgia was being a Disney character, and did it well I think, she is short so what ?

Samcro · 07/12/2015 11:21

yep I know that, but she played it up in the VT and when talking about "every girl want ing to be a princess!!

Dipankrispaneven · 07/12/2015 11:25

I remember when Tom Chambers was on Strictly he talked about the fact that he loved tap dancing and effectively taught himself to do it as a child, sticking drawing pins in the soles of his shoes; also that he was in the National Youth Music School. So I don't think he ever pretended that he didn't have any previous experience.

Dipankrispaneven · 07/12/2015 11:26

Must admit I dislike most Disney musicals so Georgia's routine left me fairly cold, but it was well-executed.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/12/2015 11:27

I love Anita. She just seems so enthusiastic and to be really enjoying it.

Georgia annoys me as well.

digerd · 07/12/2015 11:30

Considering Anton is approaching 50, he has aged very well..

I too noticed the blond man but thought I had imagined that vision of a greek god Grin. Which dance did he appear in?

SheHasAWildHeart · 07/12/2015 11:46

I think Georgia's dance was technically spot on, but the audience has been more used to see routines that have so much thrown at them that in comparison her dance looked safe and maybe even 'boring'. I loved it but that damn teapot was distracting.

TurduckenForDinner · 07/12/2015 12:09

Soupdragon I still feel cheated at not seeing Sophie's Charleston again. Brendan generally choreographs pretty rubbish show dances so I can live with not seeing that, but I was so looking forward to that Charleston.

I can't remember whether I said it here or on my Facebook Strictly group, but I think the very worst time to leave is to be first out on final night. All that work on two previous dances and the show dance and you only get to dance one dance. I think it's needlessly cruel. Even if you go out first on week two it's not as bad as they have had the opportunity to dance what they have prepared.

SoupDragon · 07/12/2015 12:15

So do I - it's why I remember clearly that 4 contestants are in the final with one being voted off after one dance!!

TurduckenForDinner · 07/12/2015 12:25

Blond candelabra man was the one in Anita's Blackpool Paso who had a better torso than Gleb. I really liked his dancing too. Most of the backing dancers were good but nothing to draw the eye, except for blond man and the short red-head. Blond man had a beautiful posture and lovely strong, lithe movements and short red-head was very mobile, great hip movement and bang on the beat.

blond man is the one who slides in at the same time as Gleb.
ppeatfruit · 07/12/2015 12:35

Wow Turduckenfor Thanks for that link! that Paso gives me goosebumps!!!

Elendon · 07/12/2015 13:52

I think it's two out next week, with three in the final.

What dances are everyone doing next week, apart from Katie's Charleston?

SheHasAWildHeart · 07/12/2015 13:59

The moral of the tale: if you have a favourite, vote for them or face the consequences.

I've been voting for Anita thinking she's being undermarked, eventhough I don't think she should win. I do however want Georgia to win so now in semi final stages I will be voting for Georgia - rather than assuming that she is 'safe'.

AnyoneButSanta · 07/12/2015 15:47

SCD FAQs from the BBC website

One couple eliminated in the semi-final by a dance off. Four couples in the final.

Assuming that Jay is scoring the most votes, then Katie and Anita (either way round), then Kellie and Georgia (either way round), and that Katie and Anita will be in the bottom two on the judges' leader board, then Jay being top will be good for Anita/Katie and Jay being in the middle will be good for Georgia/Kellie.

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 07/12/2015 15:51

I don't actually think I've seen Anton do a Charlestown..... its going to be awful isn't it Sad

SheHasAWildHeart · 07/12/2015 15:55

Have they published who's dancing what in the semi-final yet?

GlitteryRollers · 07/12/2015 16:02

Tom Chamber's showdance was the best ever on Strictly. I was pissed off during that series because the judges had shown disgusting favouritism towards Lisa Snowdon. I watched the final under sufferance, and then Tom came on and did THAT showdance. It was mindblowing and immediately picked up the phone and voted for him to win.

I still watch it now occasionally.

Dipankrispaneven · 07/12/2015 16:08

I agree, that showdance is on the list of things I click on on YouTube when I'm messing around. Along with Austin Healey's jive, Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Charleston, Simon Webbe's foxtrot, Harry Styles' quickstep, and now Jay's jive. I think Tom Chambers' showdance was really a model of how these things should be done - the ones that are essentially a gymnastics display leave me cold.

bluesky · 07/12/2015 16:10

Georgia barely smiled in her dance, and she was meant to be a smiley Disney princess!

I think lots of people are voting for "Anton", desperate for him and Katie to go as far as possible. His one opportunity and all that!

Anita is doing brilliantly.

When you watch the start, opening credits, I find myself thinking how I forgot certain celebs had even been on the show this series. So sad we're nearly at the end ....

AnyoneButSanta · 07/12/2015 16:20

Jay's doing VW and Charleston - as Monkseal pointed out, he's shadowing a lot of Harry Judd's arc.

GlitteryRollers · 07/12/2015 16:31

For me it's Tom's showdance, Mark Ramprakash's showdance, Alesha Dixon's Cha Cha Cha, Kimberley Walsh's dance fusion and Charleston, Chris and Ola's Charleston, Susanna Reid's paso and now Jay's jive.

KurriKurri · 07/12/2015 16:36

Dipankrispaneven - ooh someone else who loved Austin's jive. Austin woz definitely robbed ! Grin

Maybe people are voting for Anton in the desperate hope that if he wins he will go.

I think Jay's got a goodish choice for semi final week - those dances aren't too complicated in terms of steps, so more time to make a good performance.

I think the ''previous dance experience' thing is a bit of a red herring for all of them. There have to be some people in it who can dance - otherwise there is a risk of all Anne Widdicombes - and there would be no show.

Dance experience is only one kind of relevant experience for this show, I'd say since most of the public aren't dance experts. Performance/acting experience is a bigger advantage - you can bluff your way through a lot of lack of technique if you know how to perform. Sportsmen have the fitness advantage and the disciplined approach and work ethic, TV presenters are used to talking on camera and knowing what to say and how to present themselves as a non- offensive character. It's all swings and roundabouts really.

I remember Colin Murray being on a singing thing once (think it was comic relief Fame academy) and him saying he knew what his listenership was in terms of numbers and if they supported him he would come fourth (or whatever it was) and he was right. So some people come in with an already established fan base, or number of people that watch their programme on telly, and that's a big advantage too.
