Anyone else watching this? Can't believe that tiny dirty flat/bedsit that guy is in is £110 a weekShock

You do realise at least 70% of benefit claimants are actually like this, or do you all live in lovely sheltered posh towns and villages?

Bollocks. Or have you got you methodology handy to share? Hmm

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 10/11/2015 06:07

I'd suggest you come and visit my town and see for yourself but I wouldn't waste your time. It is renowned for binge drinkers and legal high takers. I honestly can't wait until I move out of it because I wouldn't raise my child here if someone paid me to

Yep so Ilkeston is a bit of a shithole. And?

There are complicated historical and sociological reasons for the state of Ilkeston (and places like it).

You think the whole of the UK is like Ilkeston?

And that anywhere not an actual den of addiction and thieving is posh?

You think all benefit claimants are like the no-marks you are unlucky enough to know?

Get out of Derbyshire sometimes . Read (broadsheets, quality blogs). Take a few cheap mega bus trips before the baby comes. Forget 3 beds, if you're determined to privately rent anyway, try 1.5 bedrooms in a nicer a bit of Derbyshire. You sound very narrow in outlook.

I think you need to educate yourself op. You need to be claiming child benefit and tax credits if you return to work. The forms will be in your Bounty bag when you have your baby in hospital. You will not be able to afford childcare when you return to work without them. Also as I understand you have no job at the moment. If you truly lost your job because of your pregnancy get on to your union. You are foolish in the extreme if you do not claim benefits for the benefit of your children. That is your childs money, it is there for them.

Secondly can I recommend when you can to buy a copy of the big issue. There are usually first hand accounts on there of people with addiction issues who have ended up on the streets. I always try and buy one if I have the money spare.

From a child tax credit, child benefit claiming Mum of three.

Ilkeston is in Derbyshire Confused I was brought up in one of the most deprived areas of Staffordshire apparently. My mil still lives there on a council estate (just for context) most of her neighbours work. She has one neighbour, for perspective, that doesn't work but she has a profoundly disabled daughter.

Is ilkeston really that bad? I have worked at the co-op there in the past and it seemed fine.

I do live in a posh village btw. The people who live here are no better than the people where I come from. Most people live their life to a morally good compass. Benefits, work or otherwise.

I laughed at the dogs on the dole advert as the dog loved custard creams, just like my non dole dog :o
