Choirmaster Gareth Malone is a man on a mission. He believes Britain's schools are bursting with untapped singing talent and he's determined to prove it by starting a competitive choir from scratch in a school that's never had one before. But there's a twist. He wants to get them good enough to compete in the World Choir Games in China by the end of the school year.

Gareth's choice of school is Northolt High an everyday comp and the auditions are an exhausting affair. From wannabe R&B divas to timid 11-year-olds singing nursery rhymes, Gareth sees 160 kids from which he needs 30. There are some real gems, including 15-year-old Chelsea Campbell. But it soon becomes apparent behind the slick voice is a dubious school record. She's being transferred to another school because of 'behaviour issues'.

For the lucky few there are ecstatic scenes when they are given the news they've made it through auditions. But then the real work begins. The group have just four weeks to produce singing good enough to qualify for the World Choir Games. Gareth battles poor attendance, lack of commitment and some terrible singing by the boys in his bid to realise his dream. Has he bitten off more then he can chew? [AD,S]

I enjoyed it too

I too thought that it was good that they kept cloe in cos she seemed so chuffed when she sang in concert hall and they all clapped

I felt sorry for Roul too, was it cos his voice was breaking that he couldn't sing very well?

ie will it improve with time iyswim

I diodn't klike the head either

venusinfurs · 05/12/2006 14:18

The mistake, I think, was in letting Chelsea audition if there was no chance of letting her do it. I can see his point - it was about representing the school, but very mean to allow her to do it and then say no.

Poppynic, LOL at Gareth being 'dweebie'!!!! He just looks as though he would have a very delicate white body with no hair like a young child and really soft hands EWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

can I just say (in the interests of increasing the general knowledge in the world and at the risk of giving too much away) that skinny, slight men (IMEE) generally have quite normal amounts of body hair and muscle definition, including a six pack...
haven't seen the programme btw, but I think I might have to now

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 11/12/2006 18:08

I loved this too- so nice to see that everyone else noticed what a total arse the headteacher was. Gareth is strangely alluring, I have to admit...
