Jason reminds me of some of my less nice exes - i.e. very nice in the beginning but then pulls away and commitment issues quickly become apparent! He's allowed not to fancy Kate (though most men would as she's gorgeous), but the way he stonewalled her and stood her up was so cowardly. What a prick.

Well the DM have got hold of his tindering as well now, they're run a rather prominent piece on it. He'll be single for a while now! So having watched this tonight I think Jason is emotionally immature and I believe Kate was just too sophisticated for him. He wanted to crack a bottle of champers open on a Tuesday evening and Kate was not having any of that on a school night!

Emma and James had a better chance because James gave in (a lot) to Emma's ways. However, she is not silly enough to throw the towel in just yet because she knows that he is a lovely guy and they seem to genuinely enjoy each other company.

Just caught up on this. What an arse Jason turned out to be. Never thought James and Emma would work out. Still think they're more friends than lovers though.

The most positive spin I can put on it for Jason is that he got really nervous about it and his way to deal with that nervousness was simply to shut down and withdraw.

That makes sense as a short-term defensive strategy, but to build a relationship you have to take a risk and open up to another person, and he simply didn't try at all. It's a bit tragic to see him fail for want of trying, and it clearly hurt Kate a lot that he didn't make the effort.

This is where Emma was different. She was aware that she found being close to another person difficult, but she made some effort to give it a go. James and Emma seem to have realistic expectations about what is a bizarre situation. Good for them.
