Oh I love this. Never seen it before.
The bride sounds like Caroline Ahearne in the Royle. Family.

Last nights episode was deeply annoying. WW2 theme?? WW1 aircraft, Cold War armoured personnel carrier, old cannon and a not very vintage tent. My DS thought "Winston Churchill" sounded more like Yoda!!

What the feck was he doing booking her a flight when he already knew she'd be hysterical?? Arse. I wouldn't have done the assault course though so credit to her for that!!

I don't think they should have married at all, she wasn't willing to accept his being in the Army and should have gone their separate ways as love wasn't going to conquer all - if their relationship wasn't strong enough to cope with that why marry? He was a mardy arsed idiot and her mother was a pita.

Total warfare - I've heard of some weddings turning into this but not convinced about it as a theme!!

Mrsjayy · 16/07/2015 08:48

He just wanted guns and stuff really the sentimental in memory of his grandad was just rubbish.

Cecyhall · 16/07/2015 09:17

Yeah when his dad said how it's so nice to give something back to the people that faught- not exactly sure how a wedding would do that!

Mrsjayy · 16/07/2015 09:37

I dont understand nostalgia about war it must have been grim

SirChenjin · 16/07/2015 09:49

That episode last night was awful and made for really uncomfortable viewing imo. Her mother was overbearing and controlling, and so was he - did you see the way he spoke to his friends?? She's gone from the frying pan into the fire - she actually seemed really nice, but the most important people in her life appeared to live vicariously through her and really didn't care about what she wanted.

I would have hated an assault course for my hen do - and the fact that she hated it too showed that the wedding wasn't about her at all Sad

MardyBra · 16/07/2015 09:55

'I really didn't like that groom - he didn't have stress issues, he had full on anger issues.'

I so agree with this. He was basically a controlling cunt. You could see it in the way he controlled the house, the way he treated his mates and you could see it in her behaviour while she was trying on the dress. Her whole attitude was 'I have to conform to what he wants or I'll suffer later.'

I think her mum realised this and it was why she held out for the other dress. And she was prepared to come out the baddy in the edit for doing so.

SirChenjin · 16/07/2015 10:04

I thought the mum was as bad as him - the way that she mocked her about the fact that she changed her ring to one with a more practical setting was really strange

MardyBra · 16/07/2015 10:09

Good point. Neither came across well but I thought I saw genuine fear in her eyes when she was trying on the dress.

SirChenjin · 16/07/2015 11:34

I agree. She did seem very anxious about his reaction - and watching the way he spoke to his friends when they disagreed with him, I'm not surprised.

DefinitelyMaybeBaby · 16/07/2015 12:45

Esh! That MiL was a horror. It was all about her, I think she was carrying major issues from her own failed marriage and kept comparing it to her wedding.
I was really shocked when the bride said she was worried about the top table coz her and her Dad weren't together and the mum said nothing. When I had that conversation with my divorced parents they were both like "we'll do whatever you want! It's no problem" straight away.
I think the bride would have worn his dress if MiL didn't interfere.

And yes yes yes to the Churchill sounding like yoda - read that before I watched it on catch up and laughed out loud when he then spoke!!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/07/2015 13:31

I'm watching now, omg the MIL was awful!!! The dress she chose looked like a meringue and didn't flatter her at allConfused. His choice was soooo much more flattering for her ( gorgeous) figure and the colour was nicer too . MIL should STFU and shop projecting !

The groom - dear Lord, how did his mate not tell him just to fuck off? Nasty bit of work.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/07/2015 13:32

It wasn't a wedding, it was a 'fuck you, you made me leave the army' day event!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/07/2015 13:32

Day/event

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/07/2015 13:48

She looked SO pissed off when she first saw him, she couldn't look at him!

Good job it was sunny, would've been a disaster if it was wetShock

I'm really looking forward to the day when we look back at the fashion for heavy eyebrows and think 'what WERE we thinking?!'

fancyanotherfez · 16/07/2015 14:53

I'm watching this now on catch up. I agree the dress she chose was not as nice as the one he chose. I wonder why they don't do a 'what happened next' show? I wonder how many make it afterwards? I know its cut to make it look like a bit of a car crash, but I bet they select people who have 'different' viewpoints. I'd have loved that wedding with the plane and the assault course but I know my DH wouldn't really like it because I know him!!!

blueribbons · 16/07/2015 15:17

Mrsjayy, you are right, it's different in England and Scotland. In Scotland you can get married anywhere by a minister/registrar/humanist or faith celebrant. In England and I suppose for most of these episodes, couples would have to do the legal bit separately from the big wedding bit if they're getting married outwith a church or registry office.

Weebirdie · 16/07/2015 15:23

t wasn't a wedding, it was a 'fuck you, you made me leave the army' day event!|

Yep, I think having to leave the army is something he finds very difficult to reconcile to, and I have this will be a very short marriage.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/07/2015 19:27

Everybody was talking about this at work today ! Nick Grimshaw was playing excerpts of the mil on his show this morning as well.

fancyanotherfez · 16/07/2015 19:36

Many places in England, like stately homes etc have been licenced for weddings. They are the equivalent to a registry office. I think the outdoors weddings have to be legally done indoors but hotel/ castle etc that are registered do not.

SirChenjin · 16/07/2015 20:21

Lol Dame - that was exactly what the wedding was! Grin

Agree it's going to be a short marriage - at least, if she's got any sense it will be. Shame she can't divorce her mother too.

Mrsjayy · 16/07/2015 20:33

Im watching 1 on bbc3 she is getting taken to her wedding in a fishing boat she hates the sea on and a seafoodwedding meal she hates fish

Mrsjayy · 16/07/2015 20:35

Oh and the toolgroom keeps talking about her arse and boobs classy

SirChenjin · 16/07/2015 20:35

Is that the blonde bloke? Think they live in Cornwall?

Mrsjayy · 16/07/2015 20:37

Aye thats him Hmm

SirChenjin · 16/07/2015 20:40

I remember that one - she seemed to adore him though Hmm . Shows there really is someone for everyone I suppose
