I just can't get past Dominic West acting the part of Fred West. He was so believable in that and so disgustingly ugly that I just can't find him attractive now.

The thing that bothers me with the two-sided point of view is that it's not just that they remember the same event in different ways, it's that they each remember different things. Eg when DW goes to the café to look for her, he tells the owner he wants to thank her for something. In her POV she sees a note on the board for her - that didn't happen in his POV.

Also - nobody here has mentioned this! Did anyone think Jesse Jackson was the guy from Borgen?

I still would though.

CheesyDibbles · 22/05/2015 13:57

Aaah, Idris let me list the things I'd like to do he's MINE.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/05/2015 14:07

I really don't like Idris at all, comes across as really smug and up himself .

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/05/2015 14:22

Just in case you were worried I would take him off youWink

CheesyDibbles · 22/05/2015 14:26

I'm another one that can't shake the hum of Fred West on DW now. And then other times I get a glimpse of a slightly older, weather-beaten Alex James look to him. It's all rather confusing!

patienceisvirtuous · 22/05/2015 14:37

Idris did a q&a on here and responded directly to my question

patienceisvirtuous · 22/05/2015 14:38

I am able to get past the FW thing. I onto ep 5 now and Noah keeps growing on me.

EachandEveryone · 22/05/2015 15:58

Remember we are only on three...

We have been enjoying it with a bit of a reservation that it's going to mess with our heads!
It's interesting to see two different versions of the truth.

patienceisvirtuous · 22/05/2015 17:09

No spoilers from me

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/05/2015 17:27

Oh and thinking back I'm not sure he actually shagged her on the beach, I think I he used his fingers hence the furious washing of his hands when he got home, therefore I think the child she has now is her Dh 's as she went home and shagged him.

pastizzi · 22/05/2015 18:46

I've just read on Wiki that DW's youngest child is called Rose. Can that be true?

EachandEveryone · 22/05/2015 19:27

Probably! They've all got posh names. Hopefully, it's her middle name...

imperial I think part of what's great about this show is the very thing you're struggling with: people DO perceive and then go on to remember different things about the same event. In this case it's all about where their heads are at the time, but even with factual recollections it can be hairy. Imagine a murder scene: different witnesses will remember different things, they will have seen different things, and they will have used different amounts of effort to convince themselves of what they saw.

It's also an interesting way of demonstrating how men can be from Mars and women from Venus. I don't know if you've seen it yet it, but they both do a flashback to the scene in the restaurant when DW pitches up with his wife and kids and RW is their waitress helping them save their daughter from choking. He remembers a sultry, hot chick in a short dress who single handedly saved his kid from choking. She remembers feeling like a trog, wearing an unflattering knee-length grubby uniform, watching as the daughter spits up the marble herself. So well acted by both actors, both times round.

I spent most of the series shouting out "See!! This is my life with you!!" to my DH Grin

ClareAbshire · 22/05/2015 21:38

I've got to episode 5 now, but don't worry no spoilers from me (other than to say it gets really good! Even better than 1-3).

Great blog here episode by episode that points out little things you may have missed too www.avclub.com/tv/the-affair/

tutorproof · 23/05/2015 09:53

Brock - I think DW remembered her just standing there and RW remembered rescuing her whilst Helen panicked.

They both have a romanticised view in their head. For example JJ raping her in the driveway was very much DW wanting to perceive her as a vulnerable girl that needed rescuing (hence her panic and crying in the restaurant)

They have both convinced themselves that the other was the instigator, which I'm sure happens all the time.

Also, one or both are probably hiding certain details to cover their ass.

I really struggle with the Fred West bit too. Mainly I think because McNulty was years ago Grin

BrockAuLit · 23/05/2015 10:23

Ah you may well be right tutor - I live in the U.S. and saw it all ages ago. I'm also trying not to give anything away!

tutorproof · 23/05/2015 10:34

Damn you all! I'm not going to be able to resist not taking a sneak peak.
