Just watched 1 - is every episode told twice - his and her version?

HollyJollyDillydolly · 17/05/2015 19:44

Yeah, all the way until the last episode. Every viewpoint differs a lot too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2015 20:12

True - I though JJ was raping his wife (from His viewpoint) but when you see hers she wanted sex and enjoyed it

nochurniscream · 17/05/2015 20:44

I think it's a really interesting way of telling a story

I'm wondering though - do they both believe their versions as we're seeing them. Or is one - or both - changing their reality on purpose.

nochurniscream · 17/05/2015 20:51

(Because of course it's totally reasonable they have different memories - we all do all of the time, especially of things that happened years ago. And not just different memories per se but different interpretations. It's really good, even the dress of the wife was different at the party.)

nochurniscream · 17/05/2015 20:56

ps are we sticking to discussing the series as it comes onto Sky? Because if you're going to jump ahead and discuss Whats online/what you've seen in the US, I will avoid the thread Smile

EachandEveryone · 17/05/2015 21:21

No I think we should just discuss it as it happens as I'm seeing it for the second time and even that seems quite different. I can even remember how it pans out.

Agree just stick to the episode once been seen

So anything past wed eve is fair game to discuss

ClareAbshire · 19/05/2015 22:54

onlineseries.ch/watch-tv/the-affair/

Just found it all online here. Really tempted to binge them all as I thought episodes 1 and 2 were brilliant.

EachandEveryone · 20/05/2015 09:37

I wouldn't. I did that the first time and missed loads of little things. If you can find parenthood however go for it. It's great bing tv!

I'm really enjoying it. I love the two different view points thing - makes it really interesting.

I have a lady crush on Ruth Wilson who dh fancies the pants off also likes, I loved her in Luther and Jane Eyre. I'm not keen on DW though; something about the toothy grin and he has a definite air of slime about him. Maybe I'm carrying that over from the Wire though.

tutorproof · 21/05/2015 00:37

Can I join please? Just caught up with ep 3.

Gripped.

Rollergirl1 · 21/05/2015 10:14

I was a bit annoyed by last nights episode and found the kissing/sex scenes between Noah and Alison a bit unrealistic. Would they really have sex out in an open place like that where anyone could come across them?

Also, perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention (was wrapping DS's presents for his birthday today), but did Noah's recollection show them having sex by the sea after the town meeting but Alison's didn't? Did she have sex with Cole instead?

Am finding the relationship between Noah and Helen and her parents a bit strange. They quite obviously have very different views and moral standpoints on important things. And I realise that they have accepted their money but having said that, would you still let a grandparent totally undermine your parenting in such an obvious way? I know that Helen was very much "don't rise to the bait." But I just would not allow my spouse to be spoken to that way in front of our children in the first place. Very dysfunctional and lots of tensions brewing there....

I think it is the Dad/Father-in-law who is dead and why they are being questioned.

toomuchnutella · 21/05/2015 13:03

I think its one of the lockhearts that are dead, maybe the young one who was going upstairs with DW daughter?

I cant decide if RW is hot or not. Ive never seen someone look so different with their hair down, and the lip is confusing me. (not that it matters what she looks like)

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2015 15:30

Last nights kinda bored me :(

I find the double episode of Same but different hard going and dare I say tedious :(

thoughtsbecomethings · 21/05/2015 15:33

Best thing on telly at moment Grin

BaconAndAvocado · 21/05/2015 22:04

We're loving it here. DH definitely enjoying RW's, er, acting talents ??

JJ is veeeery sexy methinks

Excellent acting from all, great script
and enjoying the unusual style.

Roll on next week.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/05/2015 23:19

Initially I liked the 2 different view points but now it's tedious.

10/10 for realistic sex though!Grin

tutorproof · 22/05/2015 07:19

Yep. DW didn't attend the public meeting

In West's version he turns up to meeting after it has finished and they have sex on the beach.

In RW version he texts to apologise for not turning up.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/05/2015 07:30

Ah so they didn't have sex on the beach then in reality?

tutorproof · 22/05/2015 07:34

What I like about this series is that I believe different events in each episode.

Or even different parts of each story.

Restaurant chap saw them in DW version and he told police to talk to him - but as he hates Lockhearts that might not be trustworthy.

Guirado · 22/05/2015 07:34

Glad I've found this, the temptation to binge-watch is huge, thanks for the link.

tutorproof · 22/05/2015 07:36

He would also know whether he actually left a note for RW or just subtly mentioned he'd be at the library.

Although he may also have left a note in the DW version that we just didn't see.

I've thought too much about this Grin

CheesyDibbles · 22/05/2015 11:43

I think that out of the two perspectives, DW's seems more flawed; his vanity keeps on coming through. I wonder about the very first scene of the series where he is in the swimming pool and gets approached by the pretty girl and how accurate that actually was; I think it's an indication of his conceit.

I also think his son (the one who pretended to hang himself) may end up playing quite a big part. It seems pretty messed up to do something like that. But who knows?

Rollergirl1 · 22/05/2015 12:25

DameDiazepam: We don't know. We don't know who's version is the reality.

Cheesy: I agree, I think DW's perspective seems less likely than RW's. The only thing that I 'm not sure about is that you only get a sense of the other chracters through DW's and RW's perspectives. So you don't really get a sense of their true personalities.
