Anyone else looking forward to this one? After last time I think there a BOys and a Girls island though it is just boys tonight. Roll up roll up anyone who has no idea how to lit a fire or build a shelter whilst knowing they are going on a survival program!

Oh my goodness that was frustrating watching wasn't it?

I almost self-combusted when they returned to that little waterfall thing to find it had run dry. Did one of them really say 'That was running with water THE OTHER DAY'?! Why didn't they go straight back there as soon as they had started their fire and had a drink??? Is there something dodgy about the editing there? Confused

I know they weren't really in a position to kill the pigs at first, they had other priorities with water, fire and moving to the other beach. BUT, they should not have started treating those pigs like pets! It must be very hard to kill an animal for the first time anyway, but to kill something that trusts you enough to not run away must do something worse to you psychologically.

Lauren and Georgie are excellent. So practical and positive. Jaime is going to have a terrible time of it (and so will the rest of them) if she doesn't find herself a viable alternative to meat.

I'm hoping they are just slow burners compared to the men and will get a proper camp and routine established very soon.

Jacana · 24/04/2015 15:44

I'm pretty well an eat or be eaten person but even so, and particularly after reading the DT article, it was evident that the little piggies had been hand reared and therefore trusting of the humans they'd attached themselves to. That was a bit hard, but I freely accept I'm writing as a townie Hmm

TwartFaceBeetj · 24/04/2015 15:46

I think there is a lot of deceptive editing going on, because when the women were trying to relight the fire you could see that they had built a rude shelter , but we didn't see any of the construction of it, or even see a shot of the fire and what was above it later, just a close up of the fire.

Yet every little attempt at building anything on the mens is has been shown.

TheGirlFromIpanema · 24/04/2015 15:55

Perhaps they just got on and did it satisfactorily Twart therefore not much drama whereas the men really struggled - even when the builders were there!

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2015 15:58

Do you remember last year, after the series had finished they did that show where Bear went back and chatted to the men at their camp? That was the best show of the series, showed loads of stuff the men had built which wasn't featured in the main series. They'd built loads of furniture and had a much more varied and satisfying diet than the editing had suggested. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of food gathering going on which hasn't been shown.

Jacana · 24/04/2015 16:13

I didn't watch any of the last programme, is it worth watching then, to give insight into what might be happening now ?

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2015 16:16

It's much the same as this series tbh, though that final episode might be worth watching if it's available.

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2015 16:17

Found it

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 24/04/2015 16:17

The timescales are confusing - I think the men are further along, they're horribly skinny (what about that visible heart beat!!) whereas the women still look "normal" and nowhere as near starvation.

I'm getting very frustrated with the whole "lets have a vote" thing and the endless need for validation before someone goes off & does something new. Sometimes you just have to do something that needs to be done...

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2015 16:22

Dh is slim but not particularly skinny and you can see his heart beating.

Jacana · 24/04/2015 16:48

Thanks for that link prof I'll check it out a bit later, much appreciated.

Strange about the weight loss pics, I wondered that last night too, particularly as the girls were cavorting around with their fat reserves clearly on view - bit like me, actually, when I'm out on the terrace ShockGrin

kerstina · 24/04/2015 17:20

That's even worse now I know they were hand reared . I think it is disgusting that these trusting piglets were slaughtered for so called entertainment . Feeling really cross now . It wasn't life or death it was a TV show .

kerstina it didn't sit well with me either, snuggling up to oomans and everything to sleep? Otoh, they were slaughtered as humanely as was possible, free from fear, etc.. If death was inevitable, and it was, t'was a good death. Well done, Lauren, is it? Whoever, she's a starStar

kerstina · 24/04/2015 17:58

Yes I am aware that pigs equals meat I am a vegetarian . These sort of programmes just hit home to me how horrible the human race is . Would like to love on a desert island just with fellow vegetarians we seem to be a different breed of people . I wouldn't have been watching the island but DP had it on . I find the attitude on here a bit crap too slagging off the women for being a bit useless . Some of these so called useless women are good at that vital skill of nurturing . Not all natural survival experts you know !

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 24/04/2015 18:20

I find the attitude on here a bit crap too slagging off the women for being a bit useless

But it's a survival based program! Confused

I don't think there would be much take up for "Nurturing with Bear Grylls".

I find it really interesting & would love to take part. I have killed my own food in the past & TBH I'd rather that than some faceless animal in a factory process.

Logistics defy me though - I'd never have time to work if I had to kill everything we ate.... Grin

CookPassBabtrigde · 24/04/2015 18:47

They need some of that yuca plant don't they! For the veggie especially. Shame, because they had some and then one of them peeled and chopped it without a fire to cook it.. Didn't think that one through!
I reckon the veggie will end up eating some fish, if they can't find anything else she might have to. Can't live on coconuts for 6 weeks surely!

Twirlwirlywoo · 24/04/2015 18:49

Grin at nurturing with Bear Grylls!!

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 24/04/2015 18:59

I reckon the veggie will end up eating some fish

Ah but then, by the laws of pedantry MN, she will no longer be a Vege and will be a Pisces or some such and will forever lose the right to declare herself as such again.....

CookPassBabtrigde · 24/04/2015 19:41

Iknowiam - yeah that would make her a 'pescaterian' I think?!
I'm always asked if I eat fish, people seem to think you can if you're a veggie. To simplify it I just say 'if it have eyes, I don't eat it'. To be honest I always hated fish, the smell, taste, everything.
Not sure how far I would get on the island though! Hunger must make you think differently pretty quickly I reckon.

CookPassBabtrigde · 24/04/2015 19:42

That was meant to be 'has' not 'have', doh!

Jacana · 24/04/2015 20:09

Another one here sniggering at 'Nurturing with Bear Grylls' Nice one, Iknow Grin

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 24/04/2015 21:12

'if it have eyes, I don't eat it'

Does that include potatoes? Grin

CookPassBabtrigde · 24/04/2015 22:04

Does that include potatoes?

Argh, I hadn't thought of that! Need to rethink this one!

Sorehead · 24/04/2015 22:05

I'd sign up for Nurturing with Bear Grylls, as long as he promised not to drink his own piss etc Grin
