Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

Reporting my sons thoughts now he's made me watch it againWink-
"really enjoyed it, interesting story line & much prefer Demelza to Elizabeth"Grin

I heard him gasp when we thought Ross was going to let Francis drown in the mine!he loves moral dilemmas!

AT was on this morning last week saying the weather would not cooperate. The director was fed up with clear blue sky's & wanted some clouds but the typical British weather would not oblige!Smile

I can see you've put some thought into your Hal v Mitchell analysis travelled, I'm inclined to agree with you on all points Grin

Poldark is tedium

VelvetGreen · 10/03/2015 11:07

I did like it, but i've been so massively obsessed with Wolf Hall (which i only finished watching the night before) that it seemed a bit light and frivolous in comparison. Even after watching Poldark i still had a dream last night about Mark Rylance Thomas Cromwell, not AT - that's not right is it? Smile

I didn't feel as completely absorbed by it as i was with the originals. Early days though, and it was definitely easy on the eye. Prudie stole the show for me - insolent, lazy, but not a bad sort really. I thought new Elizabeth was a lot more likeable than the original, and found it a bit easier to imagine Ross falling for her than the cold, haughty thing she was before.

I really hope it is a success, as it would be wonderful to see the later books come to life - such a shame that there was only ever two series of the original.

Agree with everything you've said...may need to rewatch being human now...in a darkened room Grin

Angelto5 · 10/03/2015 15:57

I had to watch it again today with dh-my life is so hardWink

The only thing I miss is hearing AT speaking in his normal Irish accent!(same goes with David tenant & his Scottish voice)

I have the first two seasons of being human & ds watched it & really enjoyed it but once AT left I lost interest. It's also nice watching banished with Russell tovey (George)

diddl · 10/03/2015 19:22

I thought it was OK.

Haven't read the books & only vaguely remember the 1975(?) series.

What does/did he see in Elizabeth?

Perhaps she couldn't be blamed for moving on after 3yrs but to just go ahead & marry Francis.

Not liking Demelza yet.

Whenm he was on the horse with Demelza & they met Elizabeth, who thought that he was going to London.

He said he had gone to find something important(?).

Did he mean Demelza?
Surely he isn't already in love with her?

George Warleggen seems a bit insipid.

The only one I quite liked was Verity!

MissClemency - I took it to mean that as well.

Angelto5 · 11/03/2015 16:06

Did anybody catch the original Ross Poldark (Robin Ellis)on loose women today?Smile

snozzlemaid · 11/03/2015 16:12

Missed it as I was at work, but will try to catch up on itv player.

ShebaRabbit · 11/03/2015 19:05

I watched this last night night, love AT, he was good so was Demelza, Phil Davis just cant put a foot wrong imo but I thought Elizabeth was awful as was Phils' wife, Francis and Warleggan, really bad, hammy acting from them spoiled it a bit for me. I haven't seen the original but may get a copy now.

Please let me dream about Mitchell and Hal tonight after seeing this thread Grin Blush

ROFL at the hairy brooder!

diddl · 12/03/2015 08:06

Thanks for that explanation MissClemency

Elizabeth looked as if she took it to mean Demelza!

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2015 12:26

Darkforces that's exciting. Stunt riding in period costume sounds like the perfect job for me ! My own horse bears a strong resemblance to the bay horse ridden by Poldarks Uncle, though I would not trust mine to stand still on the edge of a cliff....

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2015 12:36

Here for Being Human fans is the lovely Damian Maloney as Vampire Hal, in both Good and Bad mode.....

And a guest appearance from Phil Davis who played the Devil as Captain Hatch in Being Human, and is now reincarnated as Jud in Poldark.

Phil Davies was seriously creepy in BH.
I need something to erase that memory

Oh this should do it....

Damian shamamian. He's not my idea of sexy.

Love Aidan but fear he may be a short arse.

Angelto5 · 12/03/2015 13:38

According to IMDB Aidan Turner is 5ft 11-is that classed as short?
