Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I've worked with a lot of actors in the past and one thing I've learned is that their official height is rarely their actual height.

ShebaRabbit · 12/03/2015 13:50

Like my weight squoosh Grin. I think AT was seeing Charlene McKenna in RL for a while, she was in an epi of Being Human at the time.

snozzlemaid · 12/03/2015 16:09

I can officially confirm that AT is no short arse. I had to look up when speaking to him and would say he probably is 5'10 or 11.

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2015 16:52

Yes Fancy I though the entire concept that the devil is alive and living in a hotel in South Wales was great. Very manipulative and a total creep.

And thanks for the lovely Aidan picture.
Grin

squoosh · 12/03/2015 17:06

If Aidan isn't fibbing and is actually 5'11 well then I will kindly allow him to woo me.

emotionsecho · 12/03/2015 17:17

Huge fan of the original series as is dh and was concerned that this new one would be a bit of a let down, but have to say I thought it was very good, they didn't try to copy the original, they made it different.

AT is perfectly moody and brooding imho!

SwedishEdith · 12/03/2015 18:19

Grin @ "I will kindly allow him to woo me"

I wonder what's it's like to be in a relationship with someone that good-looking? I know people say you get used to what people look like but he is something else. I've thought about this quite a bit.

Angelto5 · 12/03/2015 20:29

I don't think I would be able to speak in his presence!

If anyone watches the Big Bang theory I would probably be like Amy Farah Fowler Grin

FancyFancy · 12/03/2015 22:28

You're welcome travelled. It was quite a chore seeking out a pic of AT as you can imagine. But you're worth it Wink

Dumbledoresgirl · 13/03/2015 23:46

I've just been watching the first 3 episodes of the original Poldark (for the millionth time). OMG, Robin Ellis is so smoulderingly sexy, I'm amazed he didn't spontaneously combust.

If Aidan Turner is even half as hot when he comes to certain scenes, we are all going to melt into puddles.

BrightBlowsTheBroom · 14/03/2015 03:22

Love all of it except the new Demelza. OK I suppose if she's meant to be an abused and neglected child then being all hunched and downtrodden is right but she was verging on being the village idiot.

snozzlemaid · 14/03/2015 07:30

Love this clip where you can see Ross and Demelza's relationship growing...

Eliza22 · 14/03/2015 12:01

Dumbledoresgirl, I agree. I missed the 70's Poldark. Was at boarding school but, have recently done a catch up and Mr Ellis is a very different and far sexier proposition, IMO. Aiden looks contemporary for our "now" Poldark but Robin E was indeed, smouldering. No wonder my mum was glued to it back then!

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/03/2015 12:16

Eliza - I don't want to go on about it too much as I do think this modern Poldark looks great and has some very attractive features, plus it must be annoying for all the younger ones here for whom this Poldark is the only Poldark, but I decided last night it would be fair to look at it this way:

Robin Ellis, for those of us old enough to remember him, is Ross Poldark and nothing will ever stop us loving him as the real man.

But Aidan Turner plays the role in, as you say, a very modern but perfectly acceptable edition. I am going to enjoy new Poldark for what it is, whilst holding original Poldark closest to my heart. Smile

Eliza22 · 14/03/2015 12:26

Agree. I'm loving Aiden's dark brooding looks. Let's not take that away from him! But if you say Poldark to me, it IS Robin Ellis. That is all. Am looking forward to tomorrow's 2nd episode... Feet up, glass of red and Ross!

AesopsMables · 14/03/2015 12:35

I really enjoyed the first episode and quite glad I do not remember much about the first series so I am not comparing.

Aidan Turner is a feast for my eyes Wink

Unfortunately, the actress who plays Verity is not that good but maybe she grows into the role?

diddl · 14/03/2015 12:41

I loved demelza & warleggan in the 1970s series.

the two in this seem like poor imitations for meSad

Perhaps if I hadn't seen Jack Farthing in Blandings...Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/03/2015 13:19

From the little we have seen so far, I actually prefer Jack Farthing (what an amazingly old fashioned, characterful name!) to Ralph Bates as George Warleggan. There just seems to be a bit more to him. Saturnine, glowering Ralph Bates was a bit one dimensional imo.

Demlza - I am with-holding judgement for now. It's weird that they cast a red-head again. Demelza should be dark. It is almost as if they were casting Angharad Rees rather than Demelza.

I agree re Verity - a poor substitute for the original. And Francis is lacking something too. But maybe that is just because they haven't got into their roles yet.

diddl · 14/03/2015 13:31

I remember Angharad Rees as having brown hair in POldark!

But very fairskinned!

I always imagined Demelza as dark skinned & dark haired!

emotionsecho · 14/03/2015 13:37

I am trying not to compare the characters with the 1970's series, although I am a little disappointed in Francis and Warleggan senior.

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/03/2015 13:45

I remember Angharad Rees as having brown hair in POldark!

No, take it from me, she is a red head, similar to the current Demelza.

In fact, don't take it from me, see here: Angharad Rees as Demelza

diddl · 14/03/2015 13:49

Yes I know that AR was a red head, that's what makes ot so odd.

Maybe the colour tone on our TV was crapGrin

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/03/2015 13:53

Colour tv in 1975? I am not sure we had one! Grin

Actually, when sourcing a picture for you, it did strike me that in some of the photos she looked more brunette than red. As does the new Demelza. It just goes to show what lighting can do.

diddl · 14/03/2015 13:54

Ooh, just found this

Magmatic80 · 14/03/2015 13:57

I've not seen the original or read the books. Totally unashamed of the fact only started watching because of beautiful AT. I am very happy DP works on Sunday evenings. My accidental out loud leching remarks might grate after a while Grin
