Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I hope Baby Julia doesn't succumb to Putrid Throat.

Softcookie · 19/04/2015 22:18

She could have, except she chose Francis. Remember- Francis gave her an out just before the wedding.

Elizabeth could have never lived the hard life in Nampara with Prudie and Jud. She knows it, Ross knows it.... I don't feel sorry for her

Softcookie · 19/04/2015 22:20

X post again :)

Ross still pines for Elizabeth because she's refined and elegant.... The life he could have had. But if he's got any sense he knows demelza is his soulmate.

squoosh · 19/04/2015 22:21

Meh. Ross still pines for her though! Yes she made the wrong choice but she doesn't mope around feeling sorry for herself. If I was her I'd sew some rocks into my frock and head into the sea rather than share a bed with boring old Beaker.

Demelza's just a maid who hit the jackpot.

Ineedtimeoff · 19/04/2015 22:24

Elizabeth is a 'fudgy faced baggage with drop curls'.
Team Demelza here. I do like mean and moody but for goodness sake Ross, you must be a pain in the arse to live with. Does he never smile?

Softcookie · 19/04/2015 22:24

Moping is all Elizabeth ever does! And Beaker keeps her in frocks. Her qualms about accepting Warleggan blackmail money lasted all of 10 seconds.

Demelza may be naive and misguided but even Ross had to concede her motives were pure. Francis's treatment of her was inexcusable especially considering what a bastard he is

girliefriend · 19/04/2015 22:25

Is the bloke that Verity has married really horrible then? What is he meant to have done? Is it going to end in tears? I hope not I like Verity

I am a bit upset its the last one next week Sad have loved the series.

Softcookie · 19/04/2015 22:26

They'll make chinless babies that's for sure....

squoosh · 19/04/2015 22:26

I don't Elizabeth is mopey at all! And she's very kind towards The Gormless One, considering she's probably hugely jealous of her.

Ineedtimeoff · 19/04/2015 22:27

Remember the good old days of sexy scything and neck kissing? What happened to those days. I miss them. It was a bit dark this week.

squoosh · 19/04/2015 22:28

Verity's husband killed his first wife. Knocked her out when he was drunk. But that's okay because he's ever so sorry about it! Hmm

redautumnleaves · 19/04/2015 22:28

Is there going to be a new wave of babies called 'Julia' after this 1st series of Poldark I wonder?

squoosh · 19/04/2015 22:29

There's been a shocking lack of topless scything and skinny dipping. Know your audience BBC!

nannyj · 19/04/2015 22:30

I can't get over how good the accents are. Aidan turner is Irish and Kyle smoller who plays Francis is American. I really wanted next weeks episode to be two hours long. God knows how I'll cooe when it's finished.

theconstantvacuumer · 19/04/2015 22:33

The 'Scottish' Captain's accent was abominable!

But agreed, others are good.

PeppermintPasty · 19/04/2015 22:37

girliefriend don't worry about Verity's future, it's quite good as I recall, though I did read the books about 30 years ago Shock

This isn't a spoiler thread is it? No one has mentioned the "very bad thing" I take it?

theconstantvacuumer · 19/04/2015 22:39

I read about the Very Bad Thing on Wikipedia. I really, really hope the BBC have decided to omit it from this version.

Ineedtimeoff · 19/04/2015 22:40

shhhh - no - don't mention the very bad thing!

squoosh · 19/04/2015 22:41

I think I heard mention of the Very Bad Thing on another thread. Didn't like the sound of it at all.

PeppermintPasty · 19/04/2015 22:42

Oh god sorry! Shit. Nuff said.

specialmagiclady · 19/04/2015 22:59

In other news I thought the Scottish (with the emphasis on "ish") guy's facial hair was Python-esque in its convincingness!

SabrinnaOfDystopia · 20/04/2015 00:32

Very dim here - sorry - I drink Wine on sunday nights - but why did all the men have all their debts called in? I have been somewhat out of my depth with all the financial goings on here Confused

squoosh · 20/04/2015 01:08

Because the Warleggans found out they were all part of the mining collective that Ross set up in protest against the bigwigs who were purposely keeping the cost of copper down. By calling in the debts they were able to shut this down.

Softcookie · 20/04/2015 07:07

I too have read ahead on the plot... I think The Very Tragic Thing is definitely happening next week :( but I am hoping that The Very Bad Thing won't ever happen!!!!

I still can't get over what a bastard Francis is. And for everyone to blame Demelza when it was he who sold Ross And the others down the line is really shitty.

I think I'm going to order the books now...

Dulra · 20/04/2015 08:49

Been following your thread but haven't been able to keep up enough to post Smile but like others I was so upset after last nights episode and Ross really let me down with his attitude to Demelza. He is furious with her for naively helping get Verity back with the captain all in the name of love while he thinks there is nothing wrong with helping a wife murderer (lets call a spade a spade) escape which also results in a soldier being killed! eh slightly think his carry on was far worse then Demelza's!
ps grew up in the same area as the very handsome Aidan Turner but can't remember him being much to look at back then he has obviously matured very well with age
