Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

Thanks, 2rebecca. I didn't notice that because of Aidan had forgotten that detail.

Re wars, it was the American War of Independence and he was there because he'd committed a crime at home and was offered a deal to fight and get his sentence wiped.

Re Verity and tea, surely the gracious thing to say would have been 'Lovely!'. She could quietly tell her about the 'appointed' times for tea later, maybe, and not in front of the servant. Otherwise I love Verity, though.

Cupcakemum79 · 03/04/2015 12:00

Can I still join in? A bit late, but finally got the chance to watch all the episodes (back to back)! I see now what all the fuss is about Aidan. As Ross he is great, very romantic! Love Demelza and Verity. Love seeing all the familiar excellent actors in the series, like "Jud" and Warren Clarke. Will they make a second series?

Agree that Verity could at least not have corrected Demelza in front of the servant. It felt like a put down now. I hope she still gets a family of her own at some point though. (haven't read the books yet).

Welcome Cupcake. I'm jealous of you experiencing the story for the first time. You must read the books. I've lent mine to a friend but I'm desperate to get them back and to read them again with Aidan in my head as Ross. When I've read them before I've always pictured Robin Ellis, but I want to experience them again with new faces.

Cupcakemum79 · 03/04/2015 14:04

Thanks Snozzlemaid. Actually, I've just ordered the first two books. Smile.

snozzlemaid · 03/04/2015 14:31

They'll have to make another series surely, seeing how popular this one has been.
Aidan has signed up for many series and there are 12 books, so plenty of storyline to keep them going. I think they're just waiting for it to be confirmed depending on the ratings.

Karmaone · 04/04/2015 20:22

Love it love it! Next week I'm going to Cornwall and am going to visit the actual tin mine owned by Ross! It's in Botallack. This area has been named as 27th in the world for beauty and to be added to your bucket list! Do I win the award for saddest fan?! Ha!

girliefriend · 04/04/2015 20:38

Can't believe I have only just found this thread Shock

Loving the series so far, did a slight Shock and Hmm face at the 'I think I please him in bed' comment, would Demelza have actually said that??

Am completely is love with Ross, he is my perfect man (shame he is fictional Grin)

VelvetGreen · 04/04/2015 21:06

The landscape at Botallack is stunning, especially the walk down to Crowns. I think it's Wheal Owles that they've used for Wheal Leisure. It does niggle slightly that Poldark is set in the C18th and the engine houses weren't built until the C19th, but i'll shut up since not many of you are watching it for the mining :)

CadieAgain · 04/04/2015 21:35

I loved the "please him in bed" comment. The way Verity's face went from a dreamy smile to Shock

Grin
JeanneDeMontbaston · 04/04/2015 21:46

Grin Oh yes, I loved that, it amused me.

I don't have the slightest idea whether she would have said it or not - do you mean, based on her character in general, girlie, or in the context of the times?

But I loved how she was completely matter of fact, and didn't even notice Verity nearly having a heart attack.

Karmaone · 04/04/2015 22:10

Velvet, yes it's both Wheal Owles and Crowns that they used for Wheal Leisure. Im so looking forward to it but not sure my daughter is. She thinks I'm weird!

girliefriend · 05/04/2015 11:16

Jeanne both!! I just thought that might be something you would say to a really close friend or your sister but not to a new friend!! But it did make me laugh Grin poor Verity Grin

JeanneDeMontbaston · 05/04/2015 12:19

Ah ... see, I could see the character saying it. Didn't they still have the old form of the wedding ceremony back then, that required the bride to promise to be obedient and cheerful 'at bord and in bed'? So maybe people were more frank.

But, I agree, I did wonder if it was a slightly modern thing to say.

I really like Verity as a character. I'm reading the books so further on in the story, and I keep rooting for her.

Snowstorm · 05/04/2015 15:26

Marking place. Newspaper reported AT keeps his kit on in tonight's episode ... but I'm going to watch anyway Easter Grin

Lagoonablue · 05/04/2015 20:09

Ooh now long to go now!

MrsAidanTurner · 05/04/2015 20:56

4 mins and counting, Happy Poldark Day Easter Grin

cashewnutty · 05/04/2015 21:01

DH watching the tennis. We have now had a massive argument and i have gained control of the remote.

MrsAidanTurner · 05/04/2015 21:14

Poldark cradling his newborn, they cant top that scene.

{sheds tear emotion}

girliefriend · 05/04/2015 22:09

His cousin Francis is a right idiot isn't he?? Why would he gamble the mine?

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 05/04/2015 22:16

The story jumps a bit too much for me but then they are some really long winded bits too. Really enjoying it.

Ineedtimeoff · 05/04/2015 22:46

This weeks episode felt like a 'moving the plot along' one but without any great highs or lows. Actually, what I really mean is no great love scene between Ross and Demelza. That's really what I wanted to see. It seems to have moved from a passionate new romance to boring married couple quite quickly. More sex scenes please and AT with his top off!!

blueshoes · 05/04/2015 22:50

Watched it for the first time to see what the fuss is about.

Ok, phoarr! But the characters were not drawn out. There was little to no chemistry between anyone and the plot was thin ...

Snowstorm · 05/04/2015 22:52

Ditto ineedtimeoff

SirChenjin · 05/04/2015 22:55

Actually thought tonight's episode was very disappointing - no scythe action or shirt removal, just lots of stuff about business, mines and poor people

DustBunnyFarmer · 05/04/2015 22:57

Why would he gamble the mine?

I misread that initially as why would he gamble the minCe and thought WTF??

I like the new doctor character. Does he get more of a role as time goes on?
