Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I am a bit sorry they are racing through it so fast TBH. If you don't know the story there is an awful lot missing.
Tried to watch it on i player last night and was dismayed to find it stopped at 25 minutes.
I hope they have got it sorted today. Angry

wowfudge · 06/04/2015 08:17

Can't say that I am finding it is racing through or missing chunks of story out - I don't remember the 70s serial(s) and haven't read the books. It's well-paced and holds my interest. What's not to like?

I only hope 'Capten' Blamy really does love Verity and doesn't leave her high and dry when he finds out the family fortune is gone.

Ross Poldark watching sunset whilst cradling baby daughter. Swoon!

Sunnymeg · 06/04/2015 12:52

I had a smile to myself about the scene where Poldark cradles Julia. The 1975 version only had one scene with Ross and an infant, that he was holding at arms length shouting for Prudie to come and change his wet child. I suspect that version is more realistic of the time.

There was a lot of plot covered last night and it has moved forward nicely. It will all kick off next week and it will be interesting to see the multiple strands of this story start coming together. I am beginning to see why the 1975 version created a different dynamic for Ross and Demelza's marriage as it explains better what is to come. I hated the scene last night when Ross was looking at both her and Elizabeth. I felt it didn't work at all after the previous episodes.

I had a bit of a laugh at the end scene too - reminded me of those awful soft focus photos of men with their taps aff cradling their baybees Grin

DustBunnyFarmer · 06/04/2015 18:59

I've just remembered Demelza's bump at the outdoor play. a) It looked too low (comedically so) and b) it moved up and down cushion-stylee as she sashayed along. Totally unconvincing. I was disappointed that it was so badly done when there is so much attention to detail elsewhere.

I remember the 80s poster. My son widdled at every single baby massage class as soon as it was nappies off time & his nethers were exposed to air - I now wonder how much that model got widdled on before they got a good shot.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 08/04/2015 07:36

I was also a bit Hmm at the remark by Ross that he'd like them both. Was the only thing that's put me off him so far. I hope he doesn't do anything in future to hurt Demelza; they work so well together.

The preview for the next episode and the suggestion that he might gamble Wheal Leisure along with him breaking Jim out of jail suggests that there'll be a lot more excitement next episode.

snozzlemaid · 08/04/2015 15:28

Hello there, marking my place :)

Have caught up with all episodes in a lovely binge Friday and Saturday, and I'm so ready for tonight!

Have loved your chatter about plot (not kidding!). I'm another who wishes they'd milked the UST between Ross and POLDARK a bit longer than 3 minutes Hmm, but I do love their dynamics. I hope he won't be too much of an arse to her. Can't stand Elizabeth and I've decided the reason Ross is still drawn to her is because she's his "what I could have been" if war hadn't gotten in the way. By all accounts he was always a bit of a scoundrel but I think before he went away he had an innocence, an insouciance about him that he lost, and she reminds him of this simpler, younger, freer self.

Demelza otoh is all about the here and now, the hard toil, the grit. She is actually is true soulmate but I think on some level he rejects that about himself, which is why occasionally he treats her like shit.

Softcookie · 12/04/2015 07:31

Ahem. UST between Ross and Demelza, obviously.

specialmagiclady · 12/04/2015 07:34

If he's gambling the mine I think that means there's a very good chance he'll lose his shirt.....

Softcookie · 12/04/2015 08:02

Or the plot might suddenly require him to go skinny dipping. It's been a while, after all.

Lovelise · 12/04/2015 20:22

Yay! Poldark soon!

Awellboiledicicle · 12/04/2015 21:39

Love Poldark and this thread!

Any historical people now what the 'fever' would have been.

frankie80 · 12/04/2015 21:53

oooooh they went to visit the Bennetts LOL

Mama1980 · 12/04/2015 22:04

The "whats wrong with all the Poldark women....the men" line had me and my dd lol.

Softcookie · 12/04/2015 22:09

I had high hopes when he burnt his shirt (I repeat. He burnt his shirt), but it was all rather sad in the end, was it not.

I thought it was so sweet how he spent all that money on Demelza, with the gorgeous dress and the necklace, and then so arseholey how he proceeded to ignore her and treat her like shit at the ball. Though I can't deny I do love a drunk, dark, smouldering Ross. I am completely smitten Blush

Demelza is going to get into a lot of trouble over Captain Beasley...

nannyj · 12/04/2015 22:13

I want to say scarlet fever and I should know as I'm reading the books. But am now on book four so this was a while ago. Only two more episodes to go :-(

wowfudge · 12/04/2015 22:17

It was typhoid - they, Ross and Dwight, actually said typhus when they turned up at Bodmin Gaol.
