Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

But, what's wrong with being flat-chested? That doesn't make someone "unwomanly" or unattractive. Confused

RiaOverTheRainbow · 22/03/2015 22:34

More in keeping with what??? Fortunately you and your dh don't have final say in which women are shag-worthy.

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/03/2015 22:35

And surely you don't the final word on what is attractive?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 22/03/2015 22:37

I'm not the one claiming an entire swathe of women are inherently unattractive

helzapoppin2 · 22/03/2015 22:37

The pie was very attractive!

Oblique27 · 22/03/2015 22:39

How disagreeable to criticise the figure and looks of the actresses....Angry

Sazzle41 · 22/03/2015 22:39

Nothing wrong Swedish and Ria with flat chested but historically that period in history fashion wise was all about enhancing and showing the boobs. I think bustles to emphasize bums came later? Yes thin is ok and in keeping for her age but no curves at all is not that womanly. I think small boobs are sexy myself, but personally i loathed being flat chested. I was as flat as Demelza and felt very unwomanly.

TheCraicDealer · 22/03/2015 22:40

So your husband has just discounted all women of slim build as having, "no figure"? If you have a body, you have a figure. Just because it wouldn't be his or your bag doesn't mean that it's unsexy or unattractive to anyone who ever had a sexual thought.

And it's been mean made pretty clear the household is on the bones of its arse, hardly a whole pile of snacking opportunities knocking about!

thenightsky · 22/03/2015 22:42

Dumbledoresgirl at 22:11 says what I was thinking 100%

foofooyeah · 22/03/2015 22:42

Agree helza that was a very attractive pie Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/03/2015 22:43

Look, don't get upset by it. I am only offering my opinion. In my opinion, the actress is too thin and tall for the role. She can't act very convincingly. AT is a decent actor and a decent looking man but something - the chemistry between him and the actress, the script, or something else, I can't say what - is not working for me. I could also tell you that I don't find him that attractive and his body is too muscly for me but I think certain posters might be more than upset to read that.

At the end of the day, it is all one opinion versus another. Mine is as valid as yours. I can see, not only on this board but also on others, that I am not alone in my opinions so I don't think it unreasonable that I be allowed to express them. I am watching because I love Poldark (the story) but I don't think the central relationship is the strongest point in this production.

And fwiw, I was an A cup until I had my children so I know what it is to be nearly flat chested.

Twinklestein · 22/03/2015 22:45

I don't have an issue with her figure, although it turns out I may be a breast man...

The problem is she's not a natural actress, but galumphs about, swallowing her lines, with no sense of timing.

A good actress she could convince us of passion between her and AT. I feel he is acting on his own, trying to generate chemistry from his side, and there's nothing come back.

Sazzle41 · 22/03/2015 22:47

Thecraic ... loving 'not a whole lot of snacking opportunities'. A world with Mr Kipling and endless cups of lovely tea versus not a lot of food but Poldark to erm... occupy yourself with. Hmmm. Goes very thoughtful.

SwedishEdith · 22/03/2015 22:48

I don't think people are upset by what you said (I doubt Kate Moss is weeping away whilst reading your comments) but you said "'that body isn't attractive, is it? please tell me it isn't.' And he agreed - way too thin and no breasts!" as though only whatever you and your husband like is the definition of attractive.

TheCraicDealer · 22/03/2015 22:49

To be fair, even if I'd had the whole Kipling factory at my disposal I probably would've burnt off those extra calories seeing to AT's every whim Grin

WyrdSmyth · 22/03/2015 22:53

Ah, I see the humourless dementors have descended Hmm

Though, given her youth, relentless grafting and very little in the way of fattening food it's highly likely Demelza would have been very slender to the point of skinniness.

I actually like how she is being portrayed by the actress. But AT does act her off the screen unfortunately.

Travelledtheworld · 22/03/2015 22:54

I spent a whole summer packing Apple pies and fondant fancies for Mr Kipling... Very sticky.

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/03/2015 22:56

Fair enough. My dh must have been reasonably attracted to small chested women though or he would not have married me! But anyway, all I can say is, I don't find her figure attractive but that is not in the least bit important. What is important is that I don't believe in the attraction supposedly between Ross and Demelza. And that does matter because that is what the actors are supposed to be conveying.

WyrdSmyth · 22/03/2015 22:58

"as though what only you and your husband like is the definition of attractive".

Christ. Extrapolating, much?

Sazzle41 · 22/03/2015 23:02

OMG Travelled. Fondant fancies v starving & Poldark. No contest. Cake every time. Very sticky.... lol !

I just know i am going to get dreams about AT riding towards me looking all swashbucking, with his shirt off and a plate of fondant fancies now ! Sigh.

WyrdSmyth · 22/03/2015 23:05

What about eating cake off AT's chest Sazzle [helpful]

RiaOverTheRainbow · 22/03/2015 23:06

"horrid figure" "'stick-like, unwomanly, unsexy' figure"

Not quite the same as saying 'doesn't do it for me'.

WyrdSmyth · 22/03/2015 23:09

The Beeb need to schedule it for earlier in the evening. All this sloshfuckling so near my bedtime is playing havoc with my sleep.

helzapoppin2 · 22/03/2015 23:13

Well, since Demelza is rapidly turning into Nigella in the kitchen department, I predict they will both be filling out a bit.

WyrdSmyth · 22/03/2015 23:14

Look this is a thread for the gratuitous appreciation of tousled hair, much broodingly staring out to sea and tightly cut breeches.

Can you take your argument on semantics elsewhere [gets testy]
