Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I really enjoyed it.

I thought the unlacing of the dress was incredibly erotic, the tension between them is believable. I actually think she's acting it rather well - she's a teenager. They are supposed to be awkward and gawky, and overcome with their hormones - exactly as Demelza is being played.

Twinklestein · 23/03/2015 00:07

I found it as erotic as porridge and I was trying really hard.

Not a patch on the unlacing in Outlander available from Amazon Prime on Thursday...

redautumnleaves · 23/03/2015 04:16

Yes, the dress thing was sexy BUT how on earth did she get it on in the first place it it was so hard to do up. That's what I want to know!

ChoochiWhoo · 23/03/2015 05:17

Demelza is v. Pretty but not the greatest actress ...i thought the bit with the flowers was OTT? with Elizabeth. Could she not have been Less melodramatic? ..although. im not accustomed to 17th century etiquette

NorahDentressangle · 23/03/2015 05:55

D is an unsophisticated, uneducated, galumphing country wench. Who will mature and change into something we can have empathy with, I presume.

I would guess this is how she was portrayed in the book, but haven't read it.

Demanding she follows the norm and portrays someone we, as educated, regular watchers/readers of romance stories want to see is boring surely. It's not bad acting it is how D is in the story. Refreshing imo.

But the plot moves too fast is my criticism.

specialmagiclady · 23/03/2015 06:26

This is a bit like the first book club I went to. Some dreary women wanted to talk about the book FFS!

DustBunnyFarmer · 23/03/2015 06:55

I said exactly this to DH.

snozzlemaid · 23/03/2015 07:51

They both knew very well that she had fastened it on her own so could manage to take it off by herself too. And they both knew what she was trying to make happen.

LaComtess · 23/03/2015 07:53

I thought the same with the dress!!

Mostly I'm watching this purely for AT who ticks many of my boxes , ahem. The field scything bit was a magnificent bit of filming in my opinion.

I have to say I was slightly left thinking 'was that it' after the unlacing .... I was slightly distracted by own thoughts after he started to kiss her neck and next minute it's morning.

Ref Demelza, I think she's beautiful.

LittleBearPad · 23/03/2015 08:06

She definitely could have got the dress off by herself And he knew that. She (and he) didn't want to

I just googled her and she is not flat chested at all unlike me

I think it is horrible to say she has an awful figure.

We must have been St the same book club magic. Women getting all serious about the narrative FFS. I was more interested in the wine and cake Grin

AWholeLottaNosy · 23/03/2015 09:19

I think we should have seen some bare bottom action ( his not hers, obvs) Smile

Snowstorm · 23/03/2015 10:17

Ha!Ha!Ha! - @ AWholeLottaNosy .... I agree.

Sunnymeg · 23/03/2015 11:02

In the original adaptation, Demelza thought that Ross only married her because she was pregnant. She then compared herself to Elizabeth constantly and realised how obsessed her husband still was with his first love.

I believe that they did this to heighten the tension, and to explain Ross' behaviour when Elizabeth makes what in his view is a very bad decision later in the story. Even though it was not in the book and Winston Graham was furious about it.

I'm not quite sure how the new adaptation is going to show this set of circumstances without any foreshadowing of Ross' state of mind. He is moral and upright in many ways, but not where it concerned Elizabeth.

I like the actress who plays Demelza, she is very pretty. Whose dress was that she found? Looked amazing with her red hair. Still think actress who plays Elizabeth is awful. Thats some torso on AT, wish I had him clearing weeds in my garden Blush. DH is allowed leer at Demelza but was complaining the only chest on show last night was ATs. I was happy anyway.

Viviennemary · 23/03/2015 12:24

The undressing scene was just stupid. How did she get it on herself if she couldn't get it off herself. Not logical. Demelza is about the most miscast person I've ever seen. Too scrawny, Still plenty disagree so it's all a matter of opinion.

ShebaRabbit · 23/03/2015 12:35

The stays were loose when she put it on but she pulled them up straight from the back of her neck and tightened them, you can tighten them across your shoulders yourself but opening them again is impossible.

Sazzle41 · 23/03/2015 13:38

Blimey U2, you are right, she has marvellous boobs on that link, what have they done with them ?! Maybe she will 'blossom' with marrying AT .. (she said jealously).

redautumnleaves · 23/03/2015 15:46

I have just re-watched bits of it and that first kiss is not on her lips at all - he kisses her underneath her bottom lip. Is that a screen kiss?

snozzlemaid · 23/03/2015 16:08

ShebaRabbit In the books, the dress is Ross's late mother's, which is why he gets so angry at her wearing it. That wasn't explained last night.

Sazzle41 · 23/03/2015 17:13

Yes, very helpful suggestion WyrdSmyth, I am now picturing eating cake/Fondant Fancies off AT's chest ... all boxes ticked in one go. Happy sigh. Have to add that i wouldn't be doing a Demelza in the hay field, ie.watching him bare chested and gorgeous and going all misty eyed. I would be dragging him back home for more ahem , cake.

Twinklestein · 23/03/2015 18:03

Is being thin an issue? I don't care about her size it's her lack of boobage that bothers me. It makes me feel like a perv because a) she looks somewhat prepubescent and b) I stare at her chest slightly alarmed... Small boobs would be fine but she has none at all.

Snowstorm · 23/03/2015 18:07

I'm not sure I'd worry about getting him that far Sazzle41 ... the hay field would do just fine Wink
